'07 OH DE Ben Martin (Tennessee signee)

By the way, if anyone complains about being "misled".......this is free information, remember that. Lets all step away from the ledge and realize that losing one player will not have that big of a impact in the big scheme of things. I have confidence that the program will survive. (sarcasm font)

The staff is doing a great job. Everyone relax.
i'm not getting the impression that the posters here have been getting on those that evaluate/relay the information. just like wadc, osugrad, and others who process the information have been surprised because the (possible) result hasn't meshed with what they've been hearing, so have some posters here been surprised because the same (possible) result hasn't meshed with what they've heard here. the stream of surprise and information trickles down.

also, i don't think that the board is on the ledge. in fact, i think that we're taking it pretty well, especially when compared with the scout board. the scout board is pathetic and sad. of course, there have been several posts here that have expressed disappointment, but pretty much everyone everyone feels that way. this sucks, but we're the bucks and we'll make do. just get the player that tressel wants in the door and let him do what he does.

i rather think that for losing the state's number one player who is also the player that many thought was a lock... this one may sting less than most will ever know. with the depth at defensive end, martin's impact next year would not have likely been substantial. it's hard to say, but what we do know is that the position is not one of great need for next year. also, who knows... the program may bring in someone in the strong 08 class that we'll need more. moreover, perhaps martin, davis, and barksdale's choices will allow the staff to apply greater focus on and sway with heyward and bryant (and still?).

though disappointed with the news, i'm in now way disappointed with those who provide the news. after all, they're providing information about teenagers... and teenagers will always be a fickle creature. heck, i have no idea what i'm eating for breakfast this morning.

This one hurts so much because of all the great updates we had heard from the AA game.

As Buckeye fan I am disappointment that we did not get this particular kid that demonstrates good to great skills but Reggie White he is not yet so I would not say it "hurts". I have been diappointment with some of the losses but it just means that spot(s) will go to other great athletes that want to be Bucks.

I wish him much personal success, in college and beyond. I will stil take great pride in Ben (being an Ohio boy) if he developes as many expect and he makes it to the NFL...

But...may your team success (if it truly is anyone other than my Bucks) be a monumental failure!

May you forever hear "Rocky Top" in your nightmares.

I know people are disappointed with Martin and with the "insiders" who have been proclaiming him to be a Buckeye for a while. You have to stop and wonder when EVERY single guru and EVERY single person who had some inside info and EVERY person who interviewed Ben swung and missed.

Something smelled fishy when I read that Rivals article about Berry yesterday (OSUBucks22 can attest to how I felt about it), but I dismissed it as the Vol site just slanting things. I never in a million years would have thought he was headed to Knoxville. UF? ND? I could have seen that.

I don't know what Tennessee has to offer that we don't, but it's his life, his decision, and both he and us will have to live with it.

I just don't understand it and maybe never will that if an Ohio boy is good enough to get offered by tOSU why that wouldn't be the place they dream about playing at.
If they have family ties to another school, even if it's scUM (like Boren) then I certainly understand.

It's not that I would have any hard feelings toward Ben or others from Ohio that make similar decisions - I have no right to - it's just that I cease to care aout them.

My feelings exactly.

"I honestly hope he doesn't get hurt" is about the best I can muster for Ohio kids that choose to go elsewhere after being offered by tOSU. Then they are like Fredo...dead to me.

Everybody's thinking it, I'm just saying it........

I don't like that thinking. It's what other school say about Ohio State when it comes to basketball recruiting. It's baseless and smacks of sour grapes.

I don't know why the #1 recruit in Ohio would choose Tennessee over Ohio State. But some coaches can recruit (Cooper, Zook, Fulmer) despite the fact that they can't win. They must have done a great sell job on Martin. Their staff should be given credit for that. That's an amazing pull... especially considering the in-state school is playing for the national title on Monday.

This is Cincinnati, capital of the Tri-State. The media and the natives do not make things easy for the Buckeyes down here. Woody did OK down here in the 60s and 70s, but most of the folks still remember when Earl Bruce went off on a recruit that decided to drop out of OSU and come back home. Earl came out with something like, "I don't know what's wrong with Cincinnati kids, all they want to do is watch tv and hang out with their high school friends." Earl was both right and wrong and the Bucks didn't get a kid out of here for some time. Cooper finally was able to coax some kids out of the neighborhood and I was hoping that Keller's success and Schoenhoft had changed that setting but an article in today's Enquirer didn't sound very positive.

This is one strange town, where Bengals' fans do the Gator Chomp after Santonio takes their team out of the playoffs. Holmes had the wit to give them the O-H-I-O.... most of them had no idea that was a reference to the state in which Cincinnati actually exsists.

Having grown up in Ohio, I have nothing but love for this state and tOSU, and if I were good enough at football to have been recruited by all the big time programs when I was in high school, there would have been absolutely no question in my mind that I would go to tOSU. That's why I find it so hard to believe that Cincinnati kids generally don't hold the same feelings.

Do the people of Cincinnati really have such thin skin that Bruce's quote turned them off forever to tOSU? If so, that's pretty pathetic. But I agree that the city in general has at a minimum no allegiance to tOSU and more likely a dislike. I don't know if it's a little brother complex or what. I just know that there is NO WAY that Browns fans (of which I am not one, I will add, for any Cincinnati readers out there) would do the Gator chop.
