'07 IL RB Robert Hughes (Notre Dame signee)

I know there is a lot of time left in the recruiting process, but I love our chances with Hughes. I dont think Illinois, Iowa, or Michigan can keep him from being a Buckeye. Hopefully another school doesnt jump in.

By Chris Pool...more on the KSU offer. Oklahoma State, Michigan, Virginia, Purdue and Illinois have also offered. He says his favorites are Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Illinois, Purdue, Miami, Virginia and Iowa.

I love Hughes game, but his lack of speed somewhat concerns me. I think he might end up being converted to FB. I think the only major conference in which he'd play RB is the B10. I'm probably way off base here though, as this kid seems to be OSU and Michigan's #1 RB target.

note: saying this because while I know you offered Saine early, I'm not that positive he ever even plays RB. I think Saine ends up at WR or on D at S/CB. Saine has great speed but he just doesn't seem like a natural at RB. I'd argue he's the 3rd best RB in Ohio in 2007.

I agree completely on all parts here except for the move to FB. I see Hughes as more of a complimentary B10 back...not a primary threat. As for Saine, I have thought the same thing since I first viewed his film.

You are probably right on Hughes. I agree that he'll most likely stay at RB in the B10. Also you know the kid must be damn good if OSU, ND, Michigan, and every other school out there is going after him this early.

About Saine, while his speed is very impressive his skills as a running back really are not. On film he just looks like he runs a little to upright and stiff, and every run is him using his speed to get to the outside. He won't be able to do that in college where everybody is faster. He'll need to be able to pound it inside as well and right now he's not that adept at that. Saine is also a weak blocker and that just isn't going to fly for a RB in the B10. Saine also doesn't show that good of vision and his ability to find his own hole when a play breaks down isn't that great either. Last but not least he's not that good at setting up his blocks. The great backs (like Emmitt, Erick Dickerson, etc.) all had tremendous vision, the ability to set-up blocks, and the ability to find a hole when the play breaks down. Saine tries to bounce everything out with his speed and that won't work at the next level. Now could he became a great back? Sure. But I think he's got a better chance at becoming a great WR or great DB.

I think Clay is far and away the best back in the midwest if not in the entire country. If that self-claimed 4.4-40 his coach says he runs ends up being legitimate at any camps or combines he attends, I think he'll give Jimmy Clausen a serious run for his money to be rated by all the recruiting services as the #1 player in the country. Clay is really, really, really good.

a) 4.4 is not most likely

b) your favorite team i believe is michigan right? Michigan has him 7th on their RB board, meanwhile Michigan has Hughes 2nd on their board

c) he's a real good player who could benefit going to a team like Wisconsin, Hughes will probably land at either OSU, UM, or ND.
