'07 FL DE Patrick Grant (Louisville signee)

After watching that video here are my thoughts:

Some times with these late offers and under the radar kids you think why don't we just bank the schollie and save it for next year especially like next year when we have a small class. That was the first thought that popped into my head when I first seen he put us in his top 3 and would be visiting.

Now let me say after watching this film I totally disagree with that thought. Why he is going to need work on staying low and also gaining weight, if this kid realizes his potential he could easily be the highest kid drafted out of this class. He has unreal speed coming off the edge and with his frame he could easily get to 260-280 range and be a freak coming off the end. Yeah it hurt to lose Martin who is the same type of player, but more polished, but if Grant works hard and alot of these guys that are under the radar seem to have that chip on their shoulder he could be just as good as Martin would of been here, maybe not as fast, but b4 he leaves.

So I have my fingers crossed on this one as well...

I am not a psychologist....but these kids that aren't recruited heavily....and end up with offers from just a few bigger schools (i refuse to use the terms diamond-in-the-rough or under-the-radar....no offense crazybuck)....always seem to end up being the best teammates.

They have, like you said, a chip on there shoulder, and want to prove everyone they deserve to be where they are.....not only that...but they end up loving the school, the staff, and their teammates because of the opportunity they got.

I got to admit....I follow Donny Washington, Anderson Russell, Robiskie, Chimdi Chekwa, and guys like that a little more than the rest.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that I like the offer, mainly because JT got to visit with him before the offer. Those first 15 minutes with the kid can tell you an awful lot....and whether or not you want the young man on the team

They are under the radar meaning to the fans. Doesnt mean anything about their ability. They were just not as well known as some others and I agree with you that they turn out to be some of the best sometimes. That is why recruiting is a crapshoot...

Oh I know...don't think I was bashing ya. I wasn't. I still have issue with the fact that Anderson Russell had Duke and Furman on his heels.....thats it. I can't fathom it.

Ok...back to Patrick......He reminds me of Jason Taylor...fellow Akron grad and NFL defensive player of the year.

Patrick+50lbs+Heacock coaching = stud

O i know...Some of these kids that their coaches don't send out tape, they don't go to high profile schools, and they don't attend camps, they don't get their names out there on recruiting sites and they are left unknown till after they have a huge senior season.

I love that Jason Taylor comparison too...

I agree with Dozer...this is because we lost Martin. I think we would like some pure DE's because we are going to be moving some DE's down to DT. Especially when Nathan Williams is the only real offer-worthy DE in Ohio next year, at this point. But after watching the video, I think he looks identical to Walter Dublin on film. Very athletic DE and possibly a LEO candidate.

Dublin was a guy I thought of at first, but Dublin was a guy that played low to the ground and saw some time at DT in high school, so I didnt think that was that good of a comparison...

My Take:
--changes direction well
--good straight-line speed
--good frame
--needs to work on burst
--drag tackler
--will need major polish on rush techs and hand play

I am guessing by drag tackler you mean that he trys to pull you down by the jersey...But care to elaborate more on what exactally drag tackler means, and is it a major problem, fixable problem, or just a coaches term.:tongue2:
