'07 AZ OL Kris O'Dowd (Southern Cal Signee)

Best Guess

Kristofer will choose between Ohio State, USC, and UCLA.

Thus far, UCLA is interested but is already very heavy with OL (although Kristofer would likely start as a True freshman); Ohio State is being seriously considered by Kristofer; however, Ohio State has not been very aggressive in pursuing Kristofer (meaning they sent Coach Peterson, but Coach Tressel and Coach Bollman have been chasing other recruits); and USC has been very hot and heavy after Kristofer (meaning OL line Coach Ruehl and Coach Carroll have been visiting and actively pursuing Kristofer).

Unfortunately, Ohio State last saw Kristofer after his sophomore year before he started focusing on lifting and his diet. Thinking about it, Kristofer was only 280 lbs when he attended the Ohio State camp ... and he has gained 25 lbs of muscle since that time. Honestly, only USC has seen Kristofer in recent months and Coach Ruehl (of USC) is telling him that he could start as a true freshman. Possibly true, but I wish Ohio State was blowing the same level of sunshine (so to speak) and had been able to see Kristofer at 6'5" 308 lbs, 5.00 40 yard dash, 29.5 inch vertical, etc.

We will see how things go, but I will be honest that, absent greater effort by the Ohio State coaching staff, I would expect Ohio State to lose the recruiting battle when you take into consideration USC's daily effort to recruit Kristofer as compared to UCLA and Ohio State.

can't speak for the coaches, but the 'experts' seems to think our big OL targets are Blankenship (PA) and O'Dowd (and there is debate over whether they will take more than those 2 if they came), tho they often seem worried that odowd is going to stay west. Maybe once Tressel gets done planning his recruiting strategy based on bp :p, then he will turn up the heat accordingly.

Any chance of Kris making it up here for camp this summer?

Tressels recruiting strategy is different from most. The first thing he attempts to do is put up fences in Ohio, and put ourselves in a great position to land the top talent in state. There arent any top offensive lineman in state though.

We only have 3 scholarships out to offensive linemen right now:

1) PA OL Evan Blankenship
2) VA OL Kahlil Latif
3) AZ OL Kris O'Dowd

Its kind of disturbing that Tressel isnt paying a lot of attention to Kris, I have no clue as to why... Pete "Your My #1 Guy" Carroll is known as a somewhat dirty recruiter, but Tressel is a down to earth guy that tells the truth.

Regardless of the lack of attention OSU is showing Kris, he definetely is the best offensive linemen we are pursuing.

EDIT: Also remember, Southern Cal is much closer to Arizona than Columbus. Kris is also probably the only Arizona player that we have a shot at and are pursuing, so it would be easier for Carroll to visit.

Kristofer definitely passes the "look test".

Has Kristofer scheduled an official visit yet? The weekend of 18 Nov 06 would be a great time to see to see a great university and a great football game. There is nothing else that even comes close to the Ohio State vs Michigan rivalry in all of college football.

Bigbro, is Kris going to the Ohio State summer camp?

I know that Tressel and staff does a LOT of evaluations and they go hot and heavy after some of the top performers from their camps usually. If he does go to OSU camp, I really wouldn't be surprised if his recruitment would pick up from OSU.

If he does choose another school, best of luck to Kris!

The trip from USC to Arizona is much shorter than a trip from Columbus to Arizona.

Just tell your brother to keep in mind that its not who is recruiting the hardest, but where he thinks he would fit in best.

Guys,

What HollywoodBuck is trying to say is that O'Dowd's offer is even more impressive, considering the fact they haven't seen him since his sophmore year. His comment wasn't meant to disparage Kris in any way.

We all know how deliberate and selective the staff is with their OL recruiting. To offer a kid they haven't seen in over a year, is quite a testament to how strong they feel about Kris.

About Kris...

Big Bro-

Just want to let you know (and I hope you let Kris know) that many of us (myself included) see Kris as our #1 most important recruit of the year. Here's why:

Not for the reasons most might think (his measureables & football abilities). Those are definitely a bonus.

What we have seen from Kris from everything we have read is that he is a very bright, well spoken and humble young man. And most important of all, he values academics first. Jim Tressell has definitely responded to our desire that our Buckeyes represent Ohio as:

1.) Great people
2.) Great students
3.) Great football players

In that order. And Kris appears to be all three. Which is why we want him wearing the Scarlet and Grey. Our Dental school is ranked #7 in the nation, and I sure hope he can picture himself posterizing some poor DT as Chris Wells runs through the gaping holes Kris will open. And all that in front of 105,000 people and a national TV audience every week.

I have nothing personally against USC or UCLA, but I guarantee you that if Kris comes to tOSU, he will see why the NFL put the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Ohio. Football is king in Ohio. The Buckeyes OWN Ohio. They are our NY Yankees.

Your brother looks like a class act and a serious student to us. That is the most important thing to us. It is already obvious he will be an excellent football player with good coaching (which we have). But above and beyond that, he appears to be the kind of young man who will positively contribute to our great society. That is the kind of man we want.

I hope Kris will consider tOSU seriously with the knowledge that he will have the support of one of America's most loyal fanbases behind him. God Bless and I hope to see your bro in a Scarlet and Grey jersey next year.

:osu: -America's most loyal fanbase
