'07 AZ OL Kris O'Dowd (Southern Cal Signee)

Could you possibly elaborate further on what he is concerned about? it seems like none of the places Kris is considering are "small town" places (even Knoxville). Thanks.
Big picture -- most of the Scout.com and Rivals.com articles are taken out context. Kristofer discussed "small towns", as in Waco, TX (Baylor), Reno, NV (Nevada), and wherever New Mexico State is located with the reporters ... these are truly small towns. In addition, there are the "state capitals" far off the beaten path (Lincoln, Nebraska) ... when you couple this type of discussion with reporters then add comments from another interview stating "what a great little town Columbus is ...", which in context was a direct comparison to Los Angeles, you end up comparing apples and oranges about what is a "small town".

Columbus is not a small town. One of the pluses for Columbus is that it a real city, i.e., all the conveniences Kristofer is used to in Tucson, AZ, and yet Columbus, like Tucson, still has a small town feel ... overall a big comfort factor for Kristofer.

Thank you BigBro i think you pretty much cleared everything up for us. Of course we would love to see your brother dawning the scarlet and grey.:oh::io:

Kris O'Dowd: OT or OG

Someone asked which position Kris projects at. He will end up an offensive guard or possibly a center in college. I don't know where Kris will end up in the national rankings for Scout.com, but he's our top OL prospect on the West Coast(CA, WA, OR, AZ, UT, NV, CO).

Kristofer has the atheticism to play anywhere on the line, including a blocking tight end (he has great hands, but obviously lacks true tight end speed). At Ohio State, considering Boone has locked down left tackle (and is a great left tackle), again, Kristofer could play anywhere from left guard through right tackle ... but, if I had my choice, I would play him at center. With his combination of speed and size, I can see him being a real terror at center. He has the size to take on the largest of nosetackles and the speed to catch linebackers if he is uncovered. Overall, he has the strength, speed, weight, etc. to seal off the inside against pretty much anybody in college football. A bold statement which I will stand by (after a line coach trains him for a year as a red shirt).

Hey, Mangold didn't do too bad for himself or we Bucks! Send him on down, afterall, he can't look too bad blocking for a guaranteed stable of stud running backs including a future-improved Chris Wells. (YIKES!)

Kris could do fine as a tackle, but I don't believe he'd be dominant like he could be as a guard or center. I think Kris would have some problems with the quicker DE's we see these days. He needs to improve his lateral movement and footwork a bit before any of the top programs would consider him at tackle. Remember, nobody is perfect. That's just my objective opinion.

He ran a 5.0 forty at our combine and there's no doubting his athleticism and he might be 310 pounds, but he doesn't carry much fat for a guy his size. Kris's upside is tremendous and it will be interesting to see if UCLA offers, considering their needs are greater at other positions--and the Bruins only have 9-11 scholarships to offer. I think UCLA already has five verbal commits, too.
