'07 AZ OL Kris O'Dowd (Southern Cal Signee)

Early in recruiting season ...

The nice thing about high school students is that they have short memories and their minds change every few minutes. Kristofer will visit Ohio State, Coach Tressell and Coach Bollman for one of his official visits. Both Tressell and Bollman are down to Earth, good guys and I am confident they will give Kristofer a clear view of a future at Ohio State. Personally, I am very impressed with Tressell. In fact, there were other programs in the country which I "forbid" Kristofer to consider (I use the term loosely because Kristofer is his own man and, of course, he is a giant). The programs in question had coaches that appeared to cover for their kids (e.g., like having criminal charges dropped against two of your players who committed a breaking and entering the week before the National Champion ... "Go Horns") instead of being a mentor/ father figure who won't tolerate bad behavior, e.g., Coach tressell. Anyway, Ohio State is being presented (by me) to Kristofer and our father (undergrad, grad school, football program, and depth chart) later this month along with USC and UCLA.

In simplest terms, Ohio State is still in the running, and I am trying to contact the Ohio State Coaches to find another unofficial visit time that works for them. In the end, Kristofer will get a good look at Ohio State (and the other schools) so that he can make an informed decision.

PS - either Scout.com or rivals.com (I forget which) will allegedly announce later this month or next that Kristofer is either the #1 or #2 OL prospect in the country this year. Great if true, but he should at minimum end up in the top 5.

Thanks a lot for the updates Big Bro.

Thats great news if true about being the #1 or #2 OL prospect in the entire country. I havent seen a more impressive offer list for an offensive linemen in the entire country.

excellent update, thanks for sharing. Getting him on campus will make a big difference. I think his offer list speaks volumes to his talent, but it is great for him to also be recognized with that Scout/Rivals ranking.

Thanks for the updates. We would love to see Kris come in and help anchor our line for awhile and get an education here in Ohio. He sounds like he is getting good advice from the family and I'm sure he will make a good decision when the time comes. Of course we would love to welcome him to the Buckeye family, but we'll be pulling for you guys no matter where he ends up. Any chance you could share how Kris originally became interested in Ohio State?

He says he really likes tOSU but does not think he wants to be in a small town setting.

I don't understand how "small town setting" and The Ohio State University can even be used in the same sentence. The student population here alone is larger than anything that would be considered a "small town" in the country. Not to mention that campus is surrounded by Columbus which is the 15th largest city in the country. I just hope Kris makes it here for a visit so he can drop the concern that tOSU is a small town setting. (Or maybe I'm reading into that statement wrong? it really makes no sense to me.)

he was here last summer for camp. IMO, it sounds like he likes the wild possibilities of living in LA.

Perhaps big bro can shed more light on how c-bus is a 'small town.'

Does he feel hometown Tucson is small as well? (Tucson 800k vs 700k Cbus).

I went back and forth on that when writing the update...it comes directly after he discusses UCLA/USC. He says he likes tOSU and distance is not a factor but he does not want to be in a small town setting.

The way it is given in the article, it appears that he is referring to tOSU, but Im not so sure....

It is definitely open to interpretation....I'm sure Big Bro will elaborate

i dont think he means that columbus or Tho Ohio State University is "small". Im gonna take a guess that since Ohio State is so big, its like a "small city" and he doesn't want to go to a college like that. maybe since OSU campus is like a small city it intimidates him because he could get lost lol. idk hope u could follow that...... its just my guess

He mentions tOSU, UCLA, USC, Boston College, Arizona and Tennessee. He says he really likes tOSU but does not think he wants to be in a small town setting.

Let's look at the population rank of the cities by each of those universities (2000 census):

USC/UCLA: Los Angeles (2nd, 3,694,820)
Ohio State: Columbus (15th, 711,470)
Boston College: Boston (24th, 589,141)
Arizona: Tucson (32nd, 486,699)
Tennessee: Knoxville (not even in top 50)

If he considers Columbus a "small town setting" then he should just drop everyone but USC and UCLA.
