'06 OH OL/DT Aaron Brown (Virginia Tech Signee)

i understand that, and agree to an extent. however, if that is your decisionmaking criteria, then your process needs rethinked. its nice to be fawned over. but what one has to realize is that the moment your signature is on the line, all the glitz and glamor is gone. that's where you make your decision. its about what place is the best for you once the ink dries on the paper and you are the same as everyone else. not which place made the biggest stink over you when you stopped in for the weekend.

i would like to point out that this post, while in the brown thread is about recruits in general just as much as it is about him.

If you really believe that all recruited student athletes are treated the same once they get on campus... I'll leave you to your own thoughts.

A recruit visiting on the texas weekend needs to realize that such is a privilege and compliment in and of itself, and also that there won't be as much time to spend on you. If he feels more comfortable elsewhere, then good for him. Keep in mind recruits are amazed at how Tressel expresses that he would love to have them, but that they need to make the best decision for them. I don't know if all of our recruiters talk like this, but I wonder if most coaches would leave the door open like that.

as far as i'm concerned, if the Brown's couldn't see that there was more to the UT game than just them, then that shows a definite me-first mentality and in my mind raises questions about what kind of attitude that Aaron would exhibit in a team setting. and shame on Mr. Brown if he is the one putting these thoughts into his son's head. i'm all for building your child's confidence, but when you instill a pedestal mentality, you've failed your child.

This ship sailed long before the UT game....

BINGO!....

Aaron, IMO, is not the player you all think he is. Is he a good kid? from all accounts, yes. Is a physical freak of nature? yes...But I saw a 5-11 195lb DT from Cincinnati McNicholas (Div III school to Princeton's D1) put AB on his backside on three separate occassions with bull rushes....I saw the scout video of Brown against Colerain last year and I was utterly amazed. Every clip of Brown from that game shows him lining up accross from Terrill Byrd and the tape rolls until the players are engaged and then it cuts to the next play...never, not once, do you see the continuation of the play where Terrill destroys Brown, runs around Brown or anything of that nature. Brown gave up 6 or the 8 sacks Colerain had in that game.

he's a good student and a good kid, but reminds me too much of Colerain's Jefferson Kelly...just isn't mean enough or dedicated enough to play ball at a school like THE Ohio State University...in a word, he's soft.

Yet Byrd is where? And that McNick kid is going where? Could 70+ programs be that deceived? 500+posts and over 90,000 views on this site, could AB be that misunderstood, misrepresented, that hyped? Possibly, but time will tell. I wouldn't dare come on a public forum such as this and discredit any kid, especially those from Cincinnati, regardless of my personal thoughts. H&G, you can celebrate the successes of a tremendous Colerain program without slandering other kids.

I think Aaron has a tremendous upside, seems to like attention (which lots of good kids enjoy), and would be a great prospect. However, this is a fantastic OL crop of 2006 recruits, and we are fine at OSU now and for the future on the line. With our depth he would be a great prospect to develop (as he is less developed than Boren, Smith, etc)... and maybe he'd rather go somewhere and be the starter. Nothing wrong with that.

Let's regroup here.

AB is a good kid...we should all wish him the best.

Both sides have made their choice and they happen to be the same choice. Therefore, both sides are happy with said choice.

No need for drama here.

Byrd is starting as freshman for Mark Dantonio at UC and that kid from McNick will not play college ball...but the both have one thing in common: They both exposed and abused Aaron Brown when given the opportunity.

So what was your point again?

Just because I am a Colerain guy, I can't have opinions about other players? This isn't sour grapes, either...I've PM'd several notable posters on this site about my thoughts on Brown LAST year...nothing has changed.

I hope AB enjoys VT.

After watching players videos, I was more disappointed when we lost Boren. But oh well, I think our O-line has tremedous depth right now with or with out Brown. Remember that some players may be converted to the O-line, see R.Coleman, Gurr and K.Barton.

Aaron is tremendous talent and by all means I hope he comes to OSU. However, after reading what the family and Aaron himself has said about tosu I'm not going to lose much sleep over him if he goes else where. If the craziest game in OSU's history doesn't get a 10 from a Ohio Kid then I'm at loss of words. Right now there are kids in Ohio that would kill to get an OSU offer, and instead we're sticking it out for Aaron even though he's leading us around not knowing where he's going to go. Not showing interest? How much attention does the kid want? he got invited to the biggest game of the year with only a handful of other to go with him.

Let's not forget about Jake Ballard - he'll be an OT soon after joining the program.
