This is a rumor promulgated by our former Big 8 brethren, Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State. I have never heard this from any source in Lincoln. It is an old wives' tale from fans of teams we beat upwards of 20 years in a row.
100% yes. Which underscores why it was a good thing to remove him from his position.
I hate to pass along rumors, but it becomes more believable after hearing his comments to these players - When (former Nebraska)(former Pitt) Athletic Director Steve Pederson fired Pelini in 2003, Bo...
Answering those bullet points:
Riley will have a honeymoon period (much like Bo, much like Callahan), but Nebraskans have a difficult time overcoming the mental barrier of nine wins per season. Most know it's a relic of a bygone era, but it holds weight regardless. If Riley fails to win nine...
Regarding Riley... most of us are in wait-and-see mode. Nobody is blown away by this hire. When I saw the university's tweet welcoming him to the Nebraska coaching family, my first thought was that he must be an assistant for baseball. Had to google him to figure out who he was.
He wasn't...
Bashing that raccoon was pretty normal for kids in rural Nebraska. His timeline of trying to pick up a live coon for a picture, THEN bashing its skull in, is a little suspect. Guys on HuskerBoard speculate he was after the hide (could be worth $25 according to people in the know) and took the...
Hey folks. Not new here, but haven't been around for a while. Just wanted to stop in and say congratulations on your Big Ten win, for scaring Gary Andersen out of the conference, and to wish you good luck against Alabama.
Hey guys. Checking in to say I'm really sorry to hear about Braxton's injury. Here's hoping it seems worse than it is and he's able to play. He's a good player and a good kid, and the whole conference benefits if he plays.
How do you expect to beat a team being taught this kind of defense? That's impenetrable.
And that concludes Nebraska's (and my) hoops contribution for the year. We're irrelevant, the Buckeyes weren't playing to their potential, we all know this, it's not like it means a lot.
It's...
It was always going to be a mostly meaningless game. Same opponent as last year, even with the win Nebraska likely won't be ranked, and the win won't erase our four losses or the overall blah season.
But it's a damned sight better to end the year with a win than a loss, that's for sure.
I am more than a little disappointed in "The Year of the Comet." Couldn't even see ISON, and with heavy-duty binoculars PanSTARRS was just a smudge - about as visually interesting as an airplane contrail near the horizon at sunset. Bah.
You'll get no argument from Nebraska Fan here. You're exactly right, and the time for that "getting their [Mark May] together" is NOW.
@colobuck79 - I still feel bad for Bauserman for that game. The guy deserved a better fate than that.
It'll be interesting to see how our turnover situation is affected by the absence of Taylor Martinez. Unfortunately his heir apparent, Tommy Armstrong, had eight turnovers in a two-game span recently, so maybe we're just trading one problem child for another. Johnny Stanton is a redshirt this...
We've been dealing with this "rumor" of Pelini's resignation for the past few weeks. Bo even had to call a team meeting Thursday before the Penn State trip to tell the team it's BS.
This is the double-edged sword of message boards. They're a great way to disseminate information - and...
Just catching up on my reading at BP and I see this. Jinxed, clearly.
What's amazing about that MSU game is that they held the ball for 40 minutes, but we had more yards. They had three good scoring drives, but otherwise we shut them down, including holding them to field goals instead of...
Oh no, no, no. Tattoos in exchange for memorabilia is FAR WORSE than yacht parties, stripper poles in skyboxes, etc, etc. The NCAA is saving us from the likes of Jim Tressel, whose terrible example of cooperation teaches our children exactly the wrong kind of values we need in this sport. Far...
I'm ready for the slap-on-the-wrist announcement while the NCAA tries to save face from their debacle of an investigation. Huge penalties almost certainly mean an appeal and the NCAA likely isn't interested in having their investigation put under a microscope.
They'll bluster about for half...
