Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Bashing that raccoon was pretty normal for kids in rural Nebraska. His timeline of trying to pick up a live coon for a picture, THEN bashing its skull in, is a little suspect. Guys on HuskerBoard speculate he was after the hide (could be worth $25 according to people in the know) and took the selfie post mortem.

He's a moron for posting the picture. Nobody really cares if he whacks a raccoon with a wrench for the hide out here. But posting evidence of it and giving the PETA asshats reason to mention our program wasn't the best choice.

Regarding Riley... most of us are in wait-and-see mode. Nobody is blown away by this hire. When I saw the university's tweet welcoming him to the Nebraska coaching family, my first thought was that he must be an assistant for baseball. Had to google him to figure out who he was.

He wasn't hired because he's a nice guy, he was hired because he's beaten more top ten teams with lesser talent than Bo beat with greater talent in the past four years. Nebraska Fan isn't afraid of losing games, but Bo's annual crap-the-bed game was too much to bear. Embarrassing blowout losses on national TV every single year, losing to unranked teams over and over, and the whole Bo demeanor thing finally caught up with Pelini.

On the whole I liked him as a coach. I think he'll learn from his time here and be a better coach at his next head coaching gig, but it was time for both sides to move on. Most of us wish Bo well in his future endeavors, although we have our share of hardcore haters, too.

Riley needs to surround himself with excellent coaches. Again, nobody has been blown away by his hires so far. I think the Ed Orgeron talk is just talk. We aren't getting Scott Frost to abandon Oregon for Lincoln. But we need guys who can recruit, and guys who can make players out of projects. Player development was not a strong suit by the last staff.

I'd like to think Riley is going to help Nebraska take that next step up from Bo's four-loss plateau, but there are too many intangibles so far. Mostly I just want to see an end to the embarrassments. That would be a good first step.

You guys keep praying for knapp....
He's been trying to hold Huskernation together, almost singlehandedly at times.

It's been pretty chaotic the last year-ish on HuskerBoard. I could use some prayers.

Look on the bright side, your biggest division rival just got humiliated in the CCG so bad the head coach rage quit and moved to Oregon. You could also join us in laughing at the folly in Ann Arbor. Hell, even their basketball team has suffered some embarass--

Oh. Nevermind.

I think after the initial "WTF" wore off, this could be a decent hire. The only major issue I have is the age. A likely scenario is that he's there 5-6 years. Maybe he truly is a "bridge hire" to the next guy. Fact is, there just aren't a lot of really great guys out there right now...or at least guys that are gonna leave where they are. If Riley surrounds himself with a good staff, he should at least be as successful as Bo...hopefully minus the annual blowout "holy shite" loss.

The Full Pelini:

Bo Pelini insults A.D. Shawn Eichorst in expletive-filled talk during final meeting with players

“I didn't really have any relationship with the A.D.,” Pelini said. “The guy, you guys saw him (Sunday), the guy is a total p----. I mean, he is, and he's a total c---.”

“I’d rather f------ work at McDonald’s than work with some of those guys. Not that there is anything bad about working at McDonald’s.”

...and, much, much more!

Fuck peta. They never mention that they use most of the money idiot celebs give them to kill more animals than any other group in this country.

I absolutely LOVED when Joan Rivers showed up wearing furs, then told the stupid PETA loudmouth in the audience to shut the fuck up and that they didn't know what the fuck they were talking about.

Edit: to keep it on topic, I really hope that Tressel can mentor Bo, and that Bo isn't as absolutely incorrigible as he comes off, because right now, as an Ohio State alum, Pellini is a total disgrace

So being that Tejas still has a raging hardon for Nebraska thought yall might enjoy this.. Someone who works at the sports station's sister station is some "big" Nebraska fan... here are some of the better quotes

  • Riley will have lowered expectations
  • The key to Nebraska's success is Riley reviving the Walkon program, something that Bill & Bo ignored
  • Bo is angry and likes to yell and bully, he can go back to Ohio and yell and bully people there
  • Riley was competitive with Nike U and limited resources, just imagine what he can do with Nebraska's resources
I'm glad I didn't get into a wreck from laughing my ass off. I'll try to post the entire audio when they get it..
@knapplc @alexhortdog95 - would be interested to hear your take on this.
