The Buckeyes used the longball to outslug the 16th-ranked Owls in Columbus.

Ohio State baseball put a beatdown on a nationally-ranked team on Wednesday in Columbus, using three home runs to pick up a 10-2 win over No. 16 Florida Atlantic.

Seniors Nick Sergakis and Troy Kuhn and redshirt junior Jacob Bosiokovic all had homers in this one, helping power an offensive attack that reached double digit scoring for the 10th time this season.

With Tuesday's game being cancelled due to weather, both teams had a full complement of pitchers and didn't hesitate to use them. All total, 12 players took to the bump in this one.

Senior Daulton Mosbarger started the game for Ohio State, and gave up two runs in four innings of work, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five. Mosbarger was relieved by redshirt sophomore Kyle Michalik and didn't factor in the decision.

Michalik picked up his second win after throwing two scoreless innings. He was followed by sophomore Seth Kinker, senior Michael Horejsei, and redshirt sophomore Yianni Pavlopoulos, who combined to toss five shutout innings.

Mark Nowatnick took the ball to start for the Owls and didn't survive the third inning, allowing four runs on four hits in taking the loss.

The first big knock of the game in the bottom of the third courtesy of Sergakis. After Tre Gantt doubled, Jalen Washington was hit by a pitch, and L. Grant Davis walked, the Buckeyes' senior co-captain strode to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out. On a 2-1 pitch, he took Nowatnick deep over the 370-foot sign in left-center for a grand slam, his eighth home run of the year.

Craig Nennig followed Sergakis with a double off reliever Nick Swan and came around to score when Kuhn launched his first longball of the season to extend the lead to 6-0.

Troy Montgomery bunted his way aboard to continue the inning, stole second, and crossed the plate with the seventh run of the inning on a single up the middle by Gantt.

FAU responded in the top of the fourth, scoring a pair of runs off Mosbarger. A walk and a double put runners in scoring position for Christian Dicks, who delivered a two-run single to trim the lead to 7-2.

Ohio State added a run in the bottom of the sixth when Washington was hit by a pitch for the second time, this one courtesy of Colyn O'Connell, and eventually came around to score on a bunt single by Nennig.

After Kuhn was hit by a pitch by Owls' reliever Robbie Coursel, Bosiokovic then got into the act in the seventh, driving one the other way over the right field fence for a two-run home run and a 10-2 advantage. It was the his team-leading 11th homer of the season.

The bullpen arms of the Buckeyes were rock solid, yielding just three hits as a unit to hand FAU the loss.

Ohio State has its final weekend home series coming up beginning Friday against Michigan. The Big Ten series will have major implications on the Buckeyes' conference tournament hopes. Friday's lid lifter is scheduled to get started at 6:35 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on BTN Plus.

The Saints coach picked a pair of Buckeyes, but inquired with Urban Meyer first.

"Sean Payton turned to an old friend with some pretty good insight on [Vonn Bell and Michael Thomas] -- Ohio State coach Urban Meyer."

- Mike Triplett, ESPN.com

Triplett goes into great detail here about how despite not ever being on the same coaching staff, Urban Meyer and New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton have developed a good relationship over the years. Both of them had their starts at smaller schools, with both working their way up to their respective jobs now, while keeping in contact. The two met while recruiting in similar areas, and have always stayed in touch. The two being friends is somewhat unexpected, but seems totally right, as they're both considered top coaches in their respective arenas.

So naturally, when looking into Vonn Bell and Michael Thomas, Payton had no better person to go to for an evaluation than Urban Meyer. Meyer told Payton that Michael Thomas was immature when he first got to Ohio State, but added that he was a good person. Meyer added that Thomas thought he was better than what he was, and thought he worked harder than he actually did. Of course, Meyer helped Thomas turn things around, and credited him for it. His evaluation of Bell was that he's got a corner skill set, and that he had a similar beginning at Ohio State that Thomas did, but he helped him turn things around as well. Meyer said both players were first-round talents, and it's admirable to see how Meyer is able to get the most out of his players, and it explains why the Buckeyes had such a great 2016 NFL Draft.

"Corey Smith was summoned to coach Urban Meyer's office last week. In the past, such a call would have been akin to a trip to the principal's office. This time was different."

- Bill Rabinowitz, The Columbus Dispatch

Corey Smith, like a lot of his Buckeye teammates came to Ohio State, and became a better player and a person by the time they finished up. Smith still has this season to play, but his turnaround has been extremely impressive. Rabinowitz describes Smith being called into Urban Meyer's office, but this time it was for a good reason, outside of his early troubles. Smith graduated with a degree in African American and African Studies on Sunday. He was one of nine players who earned their diplomas.

Rabinowitz says that Smith had a tough childhood in Akron, and attended two junior colleges before he came to Columbus. He wasn't big on his studies, and told Rabinowitz, ""I just feel like certain people are made to go to school and some people, that's not the path they go on." But Smith not only turned his books around, but his efforts on the field as well, after nearly quitting back in 2014 during the week of the Michigan State game. Wide receivers coach Zach Smith talked him out of it, though. He's also strongly motivated by his five kids, which has been a big part of his turnaround. Much like his teammates, he credited Urban Meyer for helping him turn from a boy into a man. It's great to hear stories like Smith's, who appears to be heading in the right direction.

"I know I had said it before, playing on the opposite side of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry, I know how passionate people are up here about football, about their sports."

- Taylor Decker, via Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Lions shared their history with their rookies, a substitute for the rookie symposium which the NFL is no longer holding. The team shared its Ohio roots, as well as their Thanksgiving tradition. Taylor Decker pointed out to Birkett that the team shared only the positives of their history, and understandably so since it's not exactly one of the franchises that has seen its fair share of success really ever.

Decker told Birkett that outside of a single team meeting with veterans, the rookies have had most of the time to themselves to get to know each other and to catch up to the rest of the team. Decker noted the biggest things were learning the offense, as well as holding their own in the weight room. The one thing that threw Decker off (unsurprisingly) was the depth of the playbook, and how it was much greater than what it was in college. But surely Decker will be able to hold his own, and it should be fun watching him on Sundays, trying to help turn the Lions around.

Michael Thomas, Vonn Bell, Adolphus Washington, Braxton Miller and Nick Vannett all earned their Day 2 selections in the NFL draft, but how does their future look now?

Welcome to part two of our analysis on Ohio State's 2016 NFL draftees. If you missed part one, no one freak out, you can read it right here.

No. 47 - WR Michael Thomas to the New Orleans Saints

Michael Thomas had an interesting lead-up to the draft, with some calling @cantguardmike the number one overall wide receiver, and others pointing to Thomas' lack of elite collegiate production as a sign that he wasn't worth a high selection. In the end, the middle of the second round seems about right for Thomas and his NFL ready 6'3, 212 lb frame. With the departure of long-time Saints' wide receiver Marques Colston, Thomas has the chance to step in as Drew Brees immediate go-to red zone threat. With time to learn the playbook and sharpen his route running, look for Thomas to emerge as the Saints number one receiver, as incumbent starters Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead may have speed and ability in the slot, but they just don't possess the same total package as Thomas.

Other Mike Thomas news:

  • In one of my favorite Players' Tribune articles to date, Thomas discusses his upbringing and how his switch from basketball to football has helped make him into the player he is today. Also, Thomas took the liberty of showing off a few of his better career highlights, because #shhhhhh.
  • Poor Kendall Fuller. The Saints' official twitter took an opportunity to show off the play which started a movement:

Those Mike Thomas footsteps though... @Cantguardmike HIGHLIGHTS: https://t.co/lkT15Sukmc #SaintsDraft pic.twitter.com/2hh4TiOMar

— New Orleans Saints (@Saints) April 30, 2016

From New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton:

"He's big, competitive, I love his hands in traffic and I think he has a very unique skillset. He has real strong hands and has some good runs after the catch. You watch him workout and you watch him compete and you see game film after game film and at times it's hard based on what they (Ohio State) do offensively, but I love his size and competitive nature and his makeup is outstanding."

No. 61 - SAF Vonn Bell to the New Orleans Saints

Vonn Bell joins Thomas in New Orleans, and like Thomas, it appears as though this will be a productive fit for all parties involved. Bell doesn't have a starting spot open for him with Kenny Vacarro and Jairus Byrd currently patrolling the Saints' secondary, but with ever-evolving NFL pass offenses, you can never have too many defensive backs on a roster at one time. Look for Bell to find plenty of time as the de facto third safety, in addition to snaps gained as the Saint's potential nickel corner.

Other Bell news:

  • Vonn was apparently alerted that he was going to be drafted before most players. No, the Saints didn't call Bell before the draft or anything, but the fortune cookie Bell got left few questions to be asked.
  • Vonn was so happy he got drafted that even a random Papa Johns deliver guy got a twitter shout out. I'm fairly certain there were additional attendees at Vonn's draft party:

Thank you to @PapaJohns for delivering pizza to my draft party! Appreciate the support! pic.twitter.com/6kF6A3Ey56

— Vonn Bell (@TheVonnBell7) April 30, 2016

From New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton:

"(Discussing the fact that Bell had to send Payton additional videos demonstrating various combine drills) That was important to me...I told him after we drafted him, I said 'Had you not sent me back those videos, you'd still be sitting home eating nachos right now."

No. 80 - DT Adolphus Washington to the Buffalo Bills

Adolphus Washington joins quarterback Cardale Jones in Buffalo, and while the fit may seem troubling for Washington at first glance, the real prize for Washington is his coach and teammates more so than the depth chart. The issue for Washington comes down to the fact that Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams are firmly entrenched as the Bills starting defensive tackles. Every defense rotates its defensive lineman, and good depth is always a must have on either side of the line of scrimmage, but it still must be a bit disappointing for Washington to seemingly be entrenched as a backup for the foreseeable future. However, Washington did have experience playing defensive end at Ohio State, and his pass rushing skills will find him playing time from day one. The only question is its the kind of playing time the former first team All-American expects, but look for defensive wizard and Bills head coach Rex Ryan to find plenty of use for his new toy.

Other Washington news:

  • While Washington's solicitation arrest did seem to lead to a bit of a draft day fall, for Washington to get picked in the 3rd round should still be viewed as a win for Washington in a draft class with so many solid defensive linemen.
  • Washington managed to get 'the homie' 50 Cent to his draft party, which leads to the inevitable 2017 NFL draft combine interview question: would you rather party with a Papa Johns delivery guy or 50 Cent?:

S/O the homie @50cent showed me mad love at my draft party. Appreciate it big homie.

A photo posted by Adolphus Washington (@awashington_92) on May 1, 2016 at 12:49pm PDT

From Buffalo Bills General Manager Doug Whaley:

"(Washington) will compete for a starting spot, (Washington has some pass-rush moves) which is rare for an inside player."

No. 80 - WR Braxton Miller to the Houston Texans

Braxton Miller finds a great home in Houston, where he will get to learn from one of the game's best wide receivers in Deandre Hopkins. However, fans shouldn't have to wait long to see Miller's transformation to a NFL wide receiver first hand, as Miller projects to find a spot as a top four receiver in the Texans' offense as early as this year. Receiving should hopefully be just the tip of the iceberg for Miller in Houston, as possibilities to get the electric playmaker the ball range from punt returning, wild cat quarterback packages, and even some snaps at running back in the Texans' zone heavy offense.

Other Braxton news:

  • The before mentioned Hopkins couldn't be happier with the drafting of Miller and former Notre Dame wide receiver Will Fuller.
  • Miller reunites with ex-Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien. This time I'm sure O'Brien was actually happy to see Miller, unlike the last time the two crossed paths:

The greatest one-yard touchdown run of all time thanks to @BraxtonMiller5 pic.twitter.com/lQHZ6W5TWC

— BuckeyesNews (@BuckeyesNews) May 4, 2016

From Houston Texans Head Coach Bill O'Brien:

"I think we're going to play him in a few different places, but definitely the slot is one of them. There are a lot of different things that he can do for us in the slot, we think he can do things for us on the outside, there's things that he can do for us at the number three spot, special teams, he can help us in that area too. Like I said, very excited to get going with him."

No. 94 - TE Nick Vannett to the Seattle Seahawks

Nick Vannett, maybe the biggest "loser" of the Ohio State offense last year in terms of touches, showed enough ability on film to warrant being the third tight end off the board. The fit in Seattle couldn't be better for the early years of Vannett's NFL career. While starter Jimmy Graham will obviously receive the majority of the targets in the Seahawks offense, Graham is currently recovering from a partellar tendon injury which could result in Vannett receiving more opportunities to catch the ball sooner rather than later. Vannett will have to beat out Luke Wlilson for the number two tight end spot, but seeing as Wilson's contract expires at the end of this season, look for Vannett to potentially seize control as the starting Seahawks tight end within a few years.

Other Vannett news:

  • Vannett may have been selected even higher if his production matched his ability, something that Vannett highlighted himself after the draft.
  • Get used to this Seahawks fans:

@N_Vannett81 catching some passes from @DangeRussWilson today! pic.twitter.com/huYdWgyXf8

— David Stobbe (@David_Seahawks) May 9, 2016

From Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll:

"We were really surprised that we had the shot at him. We're fired up that we got the best blocking tight end in the draft this year, without question...The other tight ends may want to argue about that but we know what we saw, so we're excited about that."

Ohio State looks like it added its goalie of the future in Sean Romeo, while adding another defenseman, Wyatt Ege.

Ohio State announced that they have added seven new players to the roster for the 2016-17 fall season, including two transfers who will be ineligible for the upcoming campaign as per NCAA transfer eligibility rules.

The headlines here are Wyatt Ege, a defenseman transfer from Alaska-Anchorage, and Sean Romeo, a goalie transfer from the University of Maine. Ege looks like a big get for the Buckeyes when he becomes eligible in 2017-18, as he put up four goals and nine assists and made the WCHA All-Rookie Team as a freshman last year.

Romeo looks to be the Buckeyes' goalie of the future as mainstays Matt Tomkins and Christian Frey head into their senior years in 2016-17. Both have been the entire goalie rotation for the last two-plus years and look to keep it that way until they graduate. However, once they're gone, there wasn't an immediate heir apparent on the roster. That now looks to be Romeo, who started 21 games as a freshman for Maine, posting a 3.04 goals against average and .902 save percentage. Neither is that great, but he certainly could improve over his freshman numbers in the softer Big Ten, coming from Hockey East.

In addition to those transfers, the Buckeyes also announced five more commitments who signed their letters of intent for the upcoming season.

Matt Miller, a defenseman from Youngstown of the USHL, comes in having put up seven goals and six assists last season. Gordi Myer, another defenseman, put up three goals and 15 assists for Green Bay of the USHL last year.

OSU added three forwards as well. Ronnie Hein, from Waterloo of the USHL, had 14 goals and 35 assists in 57 games last year, and looks to be a candidate to contribute early for the Buckeyes. Tanner Laczynski, from Chicago of the USHL, finished fourth in the USHL in scoring last season with 24 goals and 39 assists. He too, looks to provide an immediate impact for the Buckeyes. Lastly, there's the 5'10, 160-pound Sam McCormick out of Waterloo. He put up 57 points last season for Waterloo and Madison combined. He may need to fill out before contributing to OSU.

…the 2016 NFL Draft, held April 28th – 30th in Chicago, is now nearing two weeks old.

It is time to break it down …. At least act like we have some grand inside knowledge of the war rooms and present an analysis worthy of some of the greatest sporting minds available. ….let me cut to the chase … this information I am proceeding to is likened to the awakening of Rip Van Winkle. That’s what you will feel like … as if you totally missed the true comprehension of each Buckeye pick in this year’s Draft. Just as Ol’ Rip missed out on the Revolutionary War.

Shall we begin?

Let’s start from the top.

ROUND 1:

JOEY BOSA – DE – 3rd pick – 3rd overall – San Diego Chargers:

The Chargers defense is a 3-4 front. He won’t be starting in a stance in San Diego. He’ll have to play a stand up position. Can Bosa adjust? Please! This guy’s ability will adjust on the first snap. In the days leading up to the Draft Bosa ranged from being the #1 overall of the Titans to dropping all the way to 8th or 9th. Mock Drafts are fantasy football … we all want to be a part of something we can’t. Jeremiah Attaochu and Manti Te’o is the most promise on the Chargers defense …they need Bosa. Look for him to develop fast and furious. The Chargers got a prize in Joey Bosa and will grow more and more pleased as the seasons move on.

EZKIEL ELLIOTT – RB – 4th pick – 4th overall – Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys got an early Christmas gift in Zeke. Jerry Jones and Tony Romo must be ecstatic. Not only did the Cowboys get the best Running Back in this year’s draft, but they got the best running back in many drafts past. Ezekiel Elliott is the real deal. He can run. He can catch. He can block. Elliott is soooo much better than DeMarco Murray who, not so long ago for the Cowboys, carried the ball for 449 times and gaining 2,200 yards. Look for an explosion in Dallas. Again I must reiterate …. Jerry Jones and Tony Romo MUST be ecstatic.

ELI APPLE – CB – 10th pick – 10th overall – NY Giants

So many things are said of this pick…such as the Giants were targeting Conklin of *ichigan State and Leonard Floyd of GA (both of whom went ahead of Apple). Regardless of what transpired for the Giants on the 10th overall pick they got a good corner. Eli Apple is big, strong, and fast. He sticks and rolls. And he smells the ball. Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves many thought would be off the board before Apple … the Giants didn’t think so. Eli Apple will be a pleasant surprise as he has come home (being a Jersey kid).

TAYLOR DECKER – OT – 16th pick – 16th overall – Detroit Lions

The 6-foot-8, 315-pound Decker is projected as a right tackle in part because he needs to improve his footwork in pass protection, and that is likely the position he will play as a rookie in the Motor City. The Lions made a smart decision here, not a glamour pick, but when was the last time you ever saw any type of glamour in Detroit? Taylor will be in Detroit for years to come.

DARRON LEE – OLB – 20th pick – 20th overall – NY Jets

At 6’1” and 232 lbs he ran a 4.47, 40. Darron plays sideline-sideline. He is strong and aggressive. Jet fans will love him. He plays defense the old fashion way. He will be an immediate impact for Gang Green.

ROUND 2:

MIKE THOMAS – WR – 16th pick – 47th overall – New Orleans Saints
The Buckeyes have a knack of developing great wide receivers’ … considering there isn’t any major aerial attack in Columbus. At 6’1” Thomas will show that he is NFL ready, instantly. He will have the great fortune of teaming up with future Hall-of-Famer Drew Brees. The Saints who needed everything on the Defensive side of the ball clearly went for the best WR left on the board for the Offensive-minded Sean Payton.
VONN BELL – FS – 30th pick – 61st overall – New Orleans Saints.
Urban Meyer said pre-Draft of Bell – “He has the skill set of a corner. How many safeties can cover a No. 2 receiver?” The Saints need help on the Defensive side of the ball. Vonn Bell was a smart choice. I am truly an advocate that Vonn will be the steal of the Draft. The Saints will be shining again.

ROUND 3:

ADOLPHUS WASHINGTON – DT – 17th pick – 80th overall – Buffalo Bills
At 6’3” and a big 301 lbs there isn’t many better at the moves this man has in his bag of tricks. Washington has a quickness that I feel should have placed him higher in this draft then this position … but perhaps it was the character thing going on. Regardless the Bills got a great pick here for the defensive minded Rex Ryan.

BRAXTON MILLER – WR – 22nd pick – 85th overall – Houston Texans
This pick pains me … whatever naivety I possess it was in Braxton Miller and thinking that the Bengals would taken him in the 2nd. Urban Meyer said it all “He has a great skill set. He was a back-to-back player of the year in the Big Ten. He’s a very elusive player and has top-end speed. He was a great teammate; elected captain for us.” But what needs to be added is this guy is good …flat out! Contrary to what the experts thought … Braxton will be a star in the NFL. And let us all watch as he does a little bit of everything in Houston.

NICK VANNETT – TE – 32nd pick – 94th overall – Seattle Seahawks
Just like Michael Thomas, Vannett did not have the luxury of catching passes at a QB aerial attack school. At 6’6” and 257 lbs he is indeed a target. It looks as if Vannett was picked here by the Seahawks as an insurance policy. Jimmy Graham is attempting a return from a serious injury (patellar tendon) and Luke Wilson is a free agent after the 2016 season. What Seattle does know is that Vannett is one of the best blocking TE’s in this Draft Class. He is strong and has a knack to catch pressure passes. The Seattle Seahawks chose their future TE here. It was smart.

ROUND 4:

JOSHUA PERRY – ILB – 4th pick – 102nd overall – San Diego Chargers
Perry is a well-rounded ILB with NFL-ready skills to slow the running game of the opposition. He brings strong value to the ‘D’. The Chargers are not in need of line-backing help, at least on paper to us experts. But the Chargers are making a statement here … perhaps they do need the help … or they are adding the competition to their roster… or they took the best player available on their board which in this case was Perry. I feel he will be star in their future. Ultimately it was a smart choice.

CARDALE JONES – QB – 41st pick – 139 overall – Buffalo Bills

The elements in Buffalo need a strong QB that can heave a strong pass. Cardale will provide this. Jones will prosper and develop here in Buffalo. Without question he will be a project, but as we learned here in Columbus Cardale is filled with pleasant surprises. With the futures of Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel in question look for ’12 Gauge’ to be the man sooner than later. I feel he is in the right place with the right coach. Jones will get his chance and what will be important is he will be given the chance to grow. I believe the Bills have found their best QB since Jim Kelly. Now understand I am not saying Cardale will be as great as Kelly (not saying that at all) but the Bills have found a QB who will play damn good football and their journey to look is now over.

Three players were not chosen: Chase Farris OG – Jalin Marshall WR – Tyvis Powell FS

CHASE FARRIS – OG – Detroit Lions.

Rejoining Taylor Decker can only be positive. The Lions are clearly looking to rebuild their line, or stock up. This may prove to be a wise signing.

JALIN MARSHALL – WR – NY Jets

I personally believe Jalin should have stayed one more year in Columbus … and I have to wonder if Jalin is a believer in that now too … but with that said he will be given a shot with the Jets. Watch for him to make the team. With hard work and a no-yield-to-anything attitude he will develop and quite likely be as grand in the ‘Big’s’ as he was in College.

TYVIS POWELL – FS – Seattle Seahawks

I personally thought Tyvis would have been taken in at least the 7th. But clearly the war rooms know more than me. I believe Powell will work hard and eventually make it in the NFL on some team’s roster. It just won’t be in Seattle – not even on Special Teams.

There it is! The after the dust has settled NFL Draft evaluation of the Buckeyes chosen or signed. Keep in mind this is the most comprehensive look through the crystal ball analysis available outside of Jeane Dixon’s crypt.

Ohio State sent out offers to 2018 prospects Josh Belk and KJ Henry.

The Buckeyes sent out an offer to 2018 defensive tackle Josh Belk on Tuesday. Belk, checks in at a monstrous 6'3, 285 pounds. From South Carolina, Belk's offer count now stands at six, but there will be more on the way between now and the end of summer. 247Sports ranks him as a four-star prospect and the number five rated defensive tackle in his class. As always, it will be tough to pull a southern prospect from the slew of SEC and top ACC schools recruiting him. However, Belk has built of a strong relationship with the Ohio State coaching staff so far in this early part of the process. South Carolina seems like the early favorite, then followed by Clemson, but that's a moot point right now. There is plenty of time in this recruitment for Ohio State to make an impact. Expect the Buckeyes to work on getting him on campus this summer as they will chase Belk all the way to the end.

Belk wasn't the only player offered on Tuesday. Ohio State also sent out an offer to North Carolina defensive end KJ Henry. Henry, also a four-star prospect according to 247Sports, comes in at just over 6'5, and weighs about 220 pounds. With the frame he has, there no doubt that he can add tons of more muscle over the rest of his high school career and at the next level. Though Henry is in the beginning of his recruitment, he has already gathered 22 total offers. In addition to Ohio State, he holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, and Georgia. Ohio State has always considered Henry a major target, but now the game is getting real that an offer has been thrown out his way. Thus far, early indications seem to be that Clemson and North Carolina are the favorites. Again, with this much time between now and when he eventually signs, that's no big deal for Ohio State. The Buckeyes will continue to pursue Henry hard over the next couple of years and try and get him on campus as soon as possible.

The Buckeyes make another splash in the top 10 in latest ESPN Top 25 ranking.

"No. 10 Ohio State Buckeyes"

- Mark Schlabach, ESPN

Mark Schlabach released his post-spring way-too-early top 25 and Ohio State landed in the top 10. The Buckeyes return just three starters on offense, three on defense, and two on special teams, but Urban Meyer has proven in the past that he'll have his teams contending for a title regardless. Of those returners, of course, is quarterback J.T. Barrett. Barrett is entering his third season as Ohio State's quarterback and will be the key component to the Buckeyes offensive gameplan this fall. Though the losses from the NFL draft (to which Ohio State lost key starters) sting, Meyer and his staff will look to simply reload for the 2016 season with a heavy helping of young talent.

Alabama headlines the top 10 in the top spot, followed by Clemson, Michigan, Florida State, Oklahoma, LSU, Baylor, Stanford and Notre Dame. Other Big Ten teams to make the top 25 include Michigan State and Iowa. The Spartans and Hawkeyes played in the Big Ten championship last season but both have lost a fair share of each team's respective depth. Keep in mind Ohio State plays Oklahoma, Michigan State, and Michigan this season. Ohio State travels to both Oklahoma and Michigan State, but the Buckeyes do host the Wolverines in Columbus to finish the regular season.

"Barrett wasn't just the best in the conference, he was one of the most accurate passers vs. the blitz in the nation."

- Josh Moyer, ESPN

The Big Ten has had quite a few excellent signal-callers in the conference over the past couple of seasons, and looks to have another great crop in 2016. But among the quarterbacks for each Big Ten team this year, Josh Moyer dug into some stats and determined which players were the best at several different statistics. The first category was which quarterback was the best against the blitz.

The answer is none other than Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett. Barrett completed 66.7 percent of his passes and only turned the ball over one time against blitzes by the opposing team. With the offensive line play being pretty shaky for most of last season, it's impressive how good Barrett was under the pressure of defenders in his face. That bodes well for the Buckeyes this season, with some shifting of the offensive line and fresh faces defending their quarterback, who will make their job that much easier.

Barrett also finished second in determining who was the Big Ten's best quarterback in the fourth quarter. The top quarterback was Iowa's C.J. Beathard. It wasn't too close either, but Barrett was still a strong second statistically, completing 21 of his 35 passes for 201 yards, three touchdowns and only one interception. Still, you don't need these statistics to tell you that Barrett is one of the top quarterbacks in the conference and Ohio State will be grateful to have him in the scarlet and gray this fall.

"I think this one validates even to a higher level that Ohio State clearly is a player on the national stage every season."

- Ohio State head coach Pete Hanson via Todd Jones, The Columbus Dispatch

In case you somehow missed it, Ohio State's men's volleyball team became national champions this past Saturday, after upending the top seeded team in the tournament, BYU, avoiding seven set-point chances in the opening set of the NCAA final before taking victory in a three-set sweep (32-30, 25-23, 25-17). The Buckeyes clinched their second national championship in six seasons, an impressive feat.

Ohio State was seeded third in the tournament and actually had to upset a second-seeded UCLA team to even face off against the Cougars. Head coach Pete Hanson has coached the Buckeyes for 32 seasons and has two titles to his name. He also was honored as the AVCA national coach of the year this season for the tremendous play from his team.

Ohio State's Miles Johnson, named most valuable player for the tournament, mentioned how tightly knit the team was both on and off the court: "We're not just teammates. We're good friends in general. We don't go to volleyball and then go our separate ways. We'll probably all be hanging out again in a couple of hours."

It's another title for the university, and a bit of a statement to the program itself as Ohio State cemented itself as a true contender for the foreseeable future.
