I'm interested to know how everyone here would handle the 4 games of eligibility for the true freshmans...Mine is as followed.

Play them as early and as quick as possible because later in the year if there's an injury then they have the 4 games of experience. If someone starting gets hurt forcing a true freshman to contribute the red shirt will be burned anyways so it shouldn't matter which 4 games they play.

So this year I would have them play...

Oregon State, Rutgers, Tulane and Indiana.

Later in the year our starters will be more fresh and true freshman will hsve experience just in case.

Actually, I think he graduates HS in 2023, but the class year option only goes up to 2022 right now.

This kid is already being called the next Tua Tagovailoa even though he's just in eight grade right now. Was the MVP at a 7-on-7 camp in Canton. Someone we probably should keep on eye on.

Shame on me for not starting the obvious companion thread to "our weakest unit".

I made it "two" because I felt the DL was so obvious.

After that I would be inclined to go with WRs, although if they stay healthy it just could be QB.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the two Heisman candidates at RB.

This is a toughy.

Not doing this to be negative at all. But I agree with Eddie George that this may be the most talented team in OSU history. Trying to define the weakest link can only be done by recognizing the strengths of the others. So what say ye?

I am inclined to go with LBs because of inexperience. But I have been impressed with Hilliard and Jones, who have been beaten out for spots by true Sophs. And Borland is just waiting to get healthy while Mitchell will be developing his talents. We go six deep with players who could start at most other schools, but I don't know where else to look.

THE BEST CONTEST ON THE INTERNET IS BACK!!!!!

Once again, this will be a simple contest to participate in. Each week I will list all of the underdogs in the Div 1-A games that I see a point-spread for at the beginning of the week. Each person may pick 1 and only 1 team each week; just post your pick in this thread.

You must pick your team before the kickoff of your game. It isn't mandatory to make a pick every week, but if you don't, you obviously can't earn any points that week.

If your team wins, you are awarded the amount of points that they were assigned in the spread; if they lose you get 0 points. So it's riskier to pick Little-Sisters-of-the-Poor +47 when they play Texas Tech, but you get a ton of points if they win, as opposed to getting only a couple of points when you pick a close game.

Once I post the point spreads inside this thread, they are locked for purposes of this contest. Only the spreads listed in this thread will be used to award points.

The entire season-long contest will exist in this one thread. Each week I will post the points for that week and the season-to-date totals. Whoever has the most points after the Conference Championship Games in early December will be declared the winner, and will receive ¤25,000 Sportsbook "cash".

There will be a separate contest in December for Bowl game upsets.

Yes, college football is, thankfully, back.

Tomorrow starts the first slate of games (I guess?). It's something, it's better than nothing and I think we all need this.

If you've been watching the Little League World Series, you've probably heard about Hurricane Lane approaching the islands. The edge of it hit the Big Island earlier today, and it's projected to come close to Oahu sometime tomorrow (Friday). Here's an idea of how much rain got dumped on the Big Island:

The Buckeyes may be falling behind for a few top recruits

It’s been a tough month for Ohio State. Through investigations, reports, and just about every take imaginable being fired off in the past 20 days, the Buckeyes are still without head coach Urban Meyer, and could be rolling with interim Ryan Day for the foreseeable future, depending on what the Board of Trustees announce based on the investigation done into this.

While momentum seems to be heading towards Meyer being reinstated, possibly with suspension, there’s still a ton of uncertainty around the program. Uncertainty isn’t good for any part of a football program, but it can be especially devastating in recruiting, where everything is centered around trust, and a recruit’s willingness to buy into a program to help him grow as a player and as a person.

Without a true head coach in place, Ohio State’s recruiting has obviously skidded to a near halt in the past weeks. That isn’t surprising. What is surprising, however, is that Ohio State hasn’t lost a single commitment thus far in either their 2019 or 2020 classes. Every single pledge has remained solid, and while many of them are very concerned, for good reason, none jumped ship in preparation for possible bad news. That’s a huge deal.

The same cannot be said about some targets for the Buckeyes. Several recruits have taken a step back in their recruitment since the original news broke, including wide receiver Marcus Washington, and defensive back Peyton Powell, among others. While Washington’s reasons for stepping back weren’t exclusively related to the investigation, and he would’ve likely been headed to Missouri either way, I do think it made a difference.

Peyton Powell’s commitment date of Aug. 13 was impacted as well, and he’s one of two recruits we’re talking about today that seem to be backing away from Ohio State a bit. Heading into this month, Ohio State was the obvious leader for the Odessa, Texas product, and it felt like just a matter of time before he made his commitment official and public.

While the investigation certainly caused pause, perhaps the bigger event was Powell picking up an offer from Oklahoma on July 30. At the time, I said that Oklahoma may be a factor, but I still saw Ohio State landing Powell. I do think the Buckeyes are still an option for Powell, but at this point, I expect Oklahoma will be Powell’s choice, likely in late September.

He visited Norman, Okla., recently, and all things indicate that it went very well. Norman is far closer to his home in Texas, and their style of play fits his game a bit better. I think Ohio State will still have a chance if/when Meyer is reinstated, but at this point, I think they trail the Sooners by quite a bit.

The second recruit that seems to be trending away from the Buckeyes is a huge one, both physically and in terms of impact on the 2020 class. Oak Park, Mich., lineman Justin Rogers had been heavily favoring Ohio State for months, but recently, Georgia seemingly stormed ahead, following a late July visit.

That made it even more concerning when Rogers announced that he would be committing soon. While it’s not clear if Rogers meant a college commitment or a commitment to an All-American game (this is not at all uncommon), conventional wisdom seems to indicate that the former is more likely than the latter. That also means that Ohio State will be missing out on a five-star 2020 lineman, unless things change quickly.
