I've had this conversation with my Dad. He had season tickets during the Jim Brown days. He watched the championship game win over the Colts. He talks about the '54 Indians and that Willie Mays catch. No one would ever question his loyalty but he's so defeated when we talk about Cleveland sports, especially football. I feel bad for him and the city of Cleveland. He says I wouldn't feel that way if the Browns beat the Steelers more regularly than they do.
You know what, that is sad. Trying to stand back and look at this objectively, the rivalry is dying because one team is not holding up their end of the bargain. Someone on the Browns' board asked the other day if the Browns were losing fans. Of course, several of the longtime posters shouted "NO!!!". But you can't help but wonder about the younger generation. Why would they root for this loser? Why would they root for a team that can't do anything right and gets no breaks? I've been a fan for over 30 years and I'm beginning to question my allegiance. What the fuck have they done for me besides tear my heart out?
Maybe because my Dad is a big Browns/Indians/Cavs fan or because they really haven't been a thorn in the Steelers' side but I've never had a problem with Cleveland. I actually root for them when the Steelers aren't involved. Don't tell anyone.
no, but I gave it a gpa. Everyone will be pouring over that thread... it's the main attraction until the season starts.
would it be okay to split that long ass post I made into a separate thread? I did a ton of work for it....
I guess your friend was more right than me

"Derek Anderson started and went 6-of-9 for 119 yards in the first quarter including completions of 39 yards to Braylon Edwards, 24 yards to Mohamed Massaquoi and 20 to Cribbs. He finished 8-of-13 for 130 yards and was intercepted by William James in the closing seconds of the first half on a pass that went off Davis' hands and led to the field goal that provided the Lions' first points."

2 punt returns for TDs and a FG setup by an interception returned to the 5. Not too many sustained drives, there. I won't book my Super Bowl ticket yet, but it is encouraging.

You just finally want some competition for the Steelers.
