Olympic icon Mary Lou Retton 'continues to fight' in ICU as fundraiser for her medical expenses shatters goal

Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton is "fighting for her life," according to her daughter McKenna Kelley. On Tuesday, Kelley posted a fundraising campaign for her mother, and the family has received an overwhelming amount of financial support in just a couple of days.

In the post, Kelley said Retton has been in the ICU with a rare form of pneumonia for over a week now, and she is not able to breathe on her own. As Retton battles to stay alive, Kelley has asked for financial support for her mother, who is currently without insurance.

"We ask that if you could help in any way, that 1) you PRAY! and 2) if you could help us with finances for the hospital bill," Kelley wrote in her fundraising post. "ANYTHING, absolutely anything, would be so helpful for my family and my mom. Thank y'all so very much!"

The campaign has already raised over $278,000, which is more than five times the original goal of $50,000. That money has come from 4,935 individual donors, including one who donated $50,000, and the fundraiser has been shared 1,100 times so far.

2024 OH CB Terhyon Nichols (Kentucky Verbal)

Four-star Ohio safety Reggie Powers decommitted from Michigan State last month, but there only appears to be mild interest from OSU’s end in the Centerville product at this time. Ohio State has maintained some contact with Kentucky defensive back commit Terhyon Nichols, and it will be interesting to see if anything materializes between the Cincinnati product and the Buckeyes before National Signing Day.

2024 IL DE Marquise Lightfoot (Miami, FL Verbal)

Other targets seem to be ahead of four-star defensive end Ernest Willor Jr. on OSU’s board right now, but that could change if he visits later this season. There doesn’t seem to be a high chance of either Dylan Stewart or Marquise Lightfoot flipping from their current commitments, but if that changes, OSU would welcome either into the fold.

2025 NJ DB Cameron Miller (Kentucky Signee)

One of Ohio State’s more recent offers in the 2025 class was thrilled to earn an offer from the Buckeyes last week.

Four-star New Jersey product Cameron Miller became the 15th cornerback Ohio State offered in the cycle when he received the offer from the Buckeyes on Sept. 25.
“It was definitely a blessing,” Miller told Eleven Warriors. “Just in general any offer is a blessing, but to get it from Ohio State, that’s truly a blessing. It just gives me motivation to keep going and work even harder.”
Ohio State secondary coach Tim Walton called Miller personally and extended the offer to the 2025 defensive back.

“He called and we had a little chat, then he offered me,” Miller said. “He told me they’ve been watching my film lately and that the player that I am fits their scheme. He’s told me that he sees me as an asset.”

Miller said Ohio State has been recruiting him for about a year, so he’s already started to build some relationships. However, he hasn't visited Columbus yet. Miller said he’d “love to get up there” as soon as possible, possibly for a gameday visit later this fall. He also said future spring and official visits to Ohio State in the summer are possible.

“Definitely their culture and chemistry within the team,” Miller said of the most appealing thing about potentially playing for Ohio State. “And their ability to stay consistent and win games. (Ohio State has) definitely moved up some spots. I’ll tell you that.”

tOSU vs. ND, from an Irish Fan

I cringe even writing this...but I see a loss against Maryland or PSU even though they're at home. But I can stomach that if we beat ttun and win a B1G title, which should also mean a CFP berth at this pace.

Would be glad to be wrong obviously, but we're not an undefeated type team. Good news is nobody else is either.
I kind of feel the same it seems the longer time goes on the Buckeye narrative is we blew ND out. I’m glad Maryland is at home.,,

2022 Ohio High School Playoffs

Again not playoffs.. but Hoban has now played 5 teams which were undefeated before their game.. only Iggy wasn't
and Hoban is now 6-0 but Glenville is next and in 3 weeks it's ginormous St Eds again
(FWIW Hoban's enrollment is mid-level Div III; St Eds has more boys on their football rosters than Hoban has in the school)

Last night Hoban (ranked #1 in state by Maxprep) played undefeated and #8 in the state Walsh
it was 50-0 at half... final 57-7
gotta tip my hat to the alma mater
