DeLong spent the past two seasons at Florida State. She appeared in 55 games as a freshman with a .333 batting average, but only made one appearance this past season. DeLong was the 25th overall recruit in the 2024 class. She was the third-ranked outfielder. DeLong returns to Ohio after attending Mechanicsburg High School.

Coach Brian Hartline (National Champion, HC at USF)

BRIAN HARTLINE’S TOP FIVE. Last week, Brian Hartline appeared on Steve Smith’s 89 podcast, where he joined Smith and James Palmer to discuss his journey to becoming USF’s head coach, wide receiver non-negotiables, transparency in the NIL era, and his evaluation of Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Perhaps most interesting for Eleven Warriors readers was Smith’s list of the top 10 wide receivers Hartline coached at Ohio State, which we’ll examine below (Smith only ranked former Buckeyes, so Jeremiah Smith is not included):

  1. Marvin Harrison Jr.
  2. Garrett Wilson
  3. Chris Olave
  4. Jaxon Smith-Njigba
  5. Emeka Egbuka
  6. Devin Smith
  7. Michael Thomas
  8. Parris Campbell
  9. K.J. Hill
  10. Terry McLaurin
Hartline told Steve Smith he didn’t coach Devin Smith or Michael Thomas, so Smith allowed him to swap those Buckeyes out of his list. Hartline then added Austin Mack and Jameson Williams instead, without revealing where they should land in Smith’s revised top 10.

2028 FL WR Brysen Wright (Verbal Offer)

Per 11w poster:
Brysen Wright’s father with an encouraging interview today saying they’re looking for proof of concept over anything else, a school who’s shown they can handle and develop a player of his caliber. A school that has a plan for his son and puts WRs high in the draft.

Said Ohio State and Miami are currently standing out because they are the schools that have been doing that.

Said NIL is the least of their family’s concern because Wright is the best player in the class so every school will be around the same number NIL wise. They’re looking for relationships, development and a place where he will be held accountable and be better than the last time he saw him.
A quote that stood out to me, his dad said they have a window to commit but it won’t be too soon or too late, he said his son really wants to win a championship so they want to see how the season goes for teams because a team can go 12-0 one year and 4-8 the next year.

To me that quote is certainly directed at Miami who made the playoffs for the first time in the playoff era.

Concussions, CTE, and other traumatic brain injuries in football

Family of Aldon Smith having his brain checked for CTE

The family of Aldon Smith has decided to send his brain to medical experts in Boston to see whether chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) played a role in the former NFL defensive lineman's death.

Smith died Saturday at the age of 36, hours after he had delivered pizzas to a homeless charity.

No cause of death has been given. Smith's family has hired attorneys to help investigate his death.

"As with anyone who dies so suddenly at such a young age, we understand that there is a great deal of interest in and speculation about Aldon Smith's passing and we intend to get to the bottom of it," attorneys Harry Daniels, Bakari Sellers and Wayne Kendall said Tuesday in a statement. "To that end, we have taken a number of steps including sending his brain to Boston where medical experts will examine it for CTE as well as other damage caused by years of concussions and additional trauma.

"In the meantime, we simply ask you to keep Aldon's family in our prayers and respect their privacy as they struggle to come to grips with this terrible loss."

Re: In 2015, the NFL concussion lawsuit was settled, and the terms included:
  • Compensation: Players may receive up to $5 million based on the severity of their diagnosed conditions.
Just sayin': With the lawyers involved I'm guessing that they want to find out if they would be eligible for some compensation (i.e. money) from the NFL Concussion class action lawsuit settlement.

Last concert you saw?

Saw the Decembrists there a couple of years ago. The Mission is a popular venue here. And yes, I’ve lived in Denver since 1995.
I was amazed how that room sounds. Streetlight is 1 guitar, 1 bass, 1 drummer, 2-3 saxophones, 1 trombone and 1 trumpet. In a crap room (I’m looking at you Aragon Ballroom in Chicago), it just turns in to a mush of sound. The Mission was loud but every instrument was clear as a bell. I’m a fan (of the room).

S/C Coach Mickey Marotti (National Champion)

BODY BY MICK. I mentioned Mick Marotti's strength program earlier. Here's a glimpse of what it can do for a player who attacks the weight room and takes advantage of Ohio State's nutrition program:

Henry had four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown in Ohio State's spring game on April 18. Less than two months later, he appears to have added some good weight and plenty of muscle definition.

In other words, the man is looking yoked.

That should be an unsettling development for Ohio State's 2026 opponents.
My brother in Christ! Wowza. DNA + hard work is a helluva drug.

LB Steele Chambers (Official Thread)

STEELE CHAMBERS, UFL CHAMPION. Let's celebrate another champion: Steele Chambers.

The former Ohio State linebacker captured a UFL title with the Louisville Kings, who defeated the DC Defenders, 27-20, in the United Bowl on Saturday. Chambers recorded five tackles in the championship victory.

While Chambers' stat line was modest in the title game, he played a pivotal role in Louisville's championship run. In the semifinals, he sealed a win over the St. Louis Battlehawks with a game-clinching interception, one of two picks he recorded this season.

Across 10 regular-season games and two postseason contests, Chambers compiled 49 tackles, three tackles for loss, four pass breakups and two interceptions as one of the Kings' most productive defenders.

Now with a championship ring on one of his 10 fingers, Chambers can return to his regularly scheduled programming as a co-host of The Bobby Carpenter Show. He may also still be clowning former Ohio State defensive back Bryson Shaw — I can't say for sure — but I look forward to seeing him around The Ohio State Universe this season.

F Chris Jent (Former Assistant BBall Coach, NBA Champion)

“HE WILL HELP YOUR TEAM WIN.” Chris Jent is a two-time NBA champion.

Following the Knicks' championship-clinching victory, head coach Mike Brown made a public case for Jent to receive a head coaching opportunity, praising the veteran assistant's impact on New York's success.

"There are a lot of jobs out there. Chris Jent, my associate head coach, I'm surprised he has not gotten an interview," Brown said. "He won the Summer League championship this past summer. He's our offensive coordinator. He's our associate head coach. He's been around for a long time. Somebody needs to give him an interview because he will help your team win at the highest level."

DB Khmari Bing (Official Thread)

Better Know a Buckeye: Khmari Bing's Range and Playmaking Ability in the Open Field Could Make Him a Prototypical Safety in Ohio State's Defense

162723_h.jpg

Depth Chart Outlook

While Bing played all over the secondary in high school, he is projected to be a safety at Ohio State.

Jaylen McClain, Terry Moore, Leroy Roker III and fellow freshman Blaine Bradford will likely take up the two-deep at the deep safety positions this season. Bing is competing for position behind them with fellow freshmen Simeon Caldwell and Kaden Gebhardt and redshirt freshman Deshawn Stewart, among others.

As McClain is a candidate to enter the 2027 NFL draft while Moore is a fifth-year senior, Bing could contend for legitimate playing time entering his second season as a Buckeye in 2027 if he develops well and impresses in practice as a freshman.
