COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There was a time, before this past season, where many thought Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley was a no-brainer first-round pick. Then Marshon Lattimore and Malik Hooker exploded, and it felt like Conley fell off a little bit.

The Buckeyes are looking into the future.

According to reports, Ohio State will receive a visit from 2020 defensive end Bryan Bresee. Though Bresee was just a freshman this past fall, he has caught the attention of a handful of programs and currently holds five offers from Maryland, Penn State, North Carolina, Purdue, and Tennessee. Rankings for 2020 prospects will not be revealed for some time, but it’s safe to predict that Bresee will be among the top players in the country when that time comes.

— Alex Gleitman (@alexgleitman) March 14, 2017

Bresee already stands at 6-foot-4 and checks in at 260 pounds. It’s a safe bet that he will continue to physically mature over the next several years of his high school career. With Ohio State getting an unofficial this early in the process it means that there is definitely a lot of mutual interest. This one will be a tough battle over the next several years to land what should end up being the top prospect in the state of Maryland.

Buckeyes make top 10 list

Top 2018 wide receiver Joshua Moore released his top ten on Tuesday—and that list included Ohio State. Moore, who attends IMG Academy, is one of the most heavily recruited players in his class with 53 total offers. According to 247Sports, Moore is also a top 100 player in the country.

Though the Buckeyes made the top ten, it will be a tough task to get the speedster to sign with Ohio State come February. The Buckeyes have built a great relationship with Moore, but with the amount of big time schools after him, it would be wise to take “ the field” at this point rather than pick a favorite. If Ohio State wants a shot to land him, they’ll have to fight off Florida State, Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, who are also vying for his services.

Below is a highlight reel of Moore.

Pierre Dorion Speaks: Winning Streak, Colin White, NCAA free agents

Fresh off the Senators’ six-game winning streak, general manager Pierre Dorion joined Lee Versage and Steve Lloyd on TSN 1200’s ‘In the Box’ yesterday to discuss his team’s recent performance.

To listen to the full interview, you can use the embedded audio at the bottom of this post. For a full transcription, you can find Dorion’s comments below.

As always, my thoughts are in bold.

On their six-game winning streak and battling through some adversity in these wins…

“I think a lot of the credit has to go to our players. I think players are probably playing in roles that they’re not used to. There have been some new additions, but we’ve found a way to win. It wasn’t the prettiest road trip, but at the end of the day, when you get six points out of six points on a road trip – even though they’re (against) weaker teams, you’ve still got to win the games. So for us, a lot of credit goes to our players, a lot of credit goes to our coaching staff who have gotten the team ready and thank God for Erik Karlsson.”

Even if you want to discredit the team’s performance by playing down the quality of opposition, Dorion’s right. You can’t fault this team for taking advantage of a soft schedule and beating some shitty teams. In years past, these were the kind of games that this team struggled with.

On what the latest on Mark Stone’s injury…

“Mark Stone is out with a lower-body injury. He is week-to-week and probably won’t play on this home stand. We hope to have him traveling with us after the Saturday game, so Sunday in Montreal, so week-to-week. (There’s) not much more I can say about that one.”

The soft road trip is over and the schedule becomes exponentially more difficult. Knowing this, it’s great that the Senators picked up as many points as they could and built themselves a point cushion that gives them a bigger margin for error, especially with players like Stone and Anderson possibly missing significant periods of time.

On the severity of the injury…

“I was led to believe that it could have been much worse and I didn’t have much sleep when I was told that it could have been much worse. But now, we know that he’ll be back at a certain point in time.”

Get back soon, Stone.

On updating Kyle Turris’ health…

“Kyle Turris is very, very hopeful for tomorrow. (Mark Borowiecki) is day-to-day and Bobby Ryan is getting closer. We hope that he plays on this home stand.”

Aside from Turris, it was hard to tell whether Ryan or Borowiecki were actually missing from action.

On Chris Neil’s health…

“Chris Neil, from what I’m told, is still a few weeks away.”

Neil’s career with the Senators appears to be drawing to a close. He’s in Chris Phillips territory here.

On Erik Karlsson essentially taking games over during his team’s three-game road trip…

“No, that’s exactly it. I think Erik just said, ‘Hey guys, we can’t lose to Arizona,’ and he just said, ‘I’m going to make sure that we’re going to win.’ He took the team on his shoulders and just said,’ Uh-uh, it’s not going to happen. We need two points. We need to stay atop the standings here as far as being in the playoffs,’ and he just took it upon himself to make sure that we won. I think with Erik, the games are becoming harder and he’s becoming better. Erik has given us everything and when we talk about his defensive play, his shot-blocking, his ability to just get the puck out of our own end so we spend less time there, he’s as advertised. He’s arguably the best defenceman in the league and arguably one of the top players in the league and I’m very fortunate for about 78 games a year or 76 – how many games a year I get to see him (play live). I describe it a bit like Tiger Woods in his prime. We’ll talk about how great he was when maybe he won’t be as good, but we have something so special here. Like, the fans in Ottawa don’t realize… we get to see the league night-in and night-out and we have something so special in Erik Karlsson. The best part about it is he has taken his team on his shoulders. Him and Guy (Boucher) have a great relationship and he’s embraced it from day one. He’s just said, ‘I’m going to play the way that we need to play. I might sacrifice a few points,’ but at the same time, he’s still second in the league in assists and we’re going to be better for it as a team.”

Dude’s a dominant defenceman and Dorion’s right, we’re lucky to have him and enjoy watching him in his prime. It’s too bad he’s surrounded by an incompetent defensive corps, but I have a hard time imagining what he could do with some very good partners.

On there being less noise about Karlsson’s shortcomings this season and the increased perception that Erik Karlsson is a well-rounded defenceman…

“I think he’d be the first one to tell you that he’s become a more rounded defenceman. Even though he was 11th in shot-blocking last year, I think he’s taken that to another level. I think he’s taken his defensive game to another level. He’s taken his compete to another level and I think he’s still as offensively-gifted as before. Sometimes it’s opportunity or situations. We’ve maybe got more one-goal games, so he might not get as many points, but overall (he’s been better). I know he finished second in the Norris (Trophy voting) last year, to me, he’s been much, much better this year.”

Karlsson’s defensive shortcomings were a narrative for shitbag mainstream types who relied on agents and teams to tell stories. Last year’s Norris Trophy vote was a farce and realistically, without that Matt Cooke-drawn Achilles injury, Karlsson should have won four of the past five Norris votes. Dude’s dominant, but because of his offensive prowess, his defensive acumen has never received the praise that it should have.

On Craig Anderson playing at the level that he’s playing at…

“Well, I think Craig is probably one of the most underrated players in the league. In the last few years, he was one of the guys who faced the most shots. His ability to keep us us in games that probably we shouldn’t have been in was a big reason why Ottawa had some kind of success and I think with the way that we’ve played this year, I think he’s embraced it that we’ve facing probably less scoring chances. But at the same time, he’s a true number one goalie who’s able to make the big save at key moments. Even the Colorado game, it’s 1-0 for them and he makes a few big saves and the game doesn’t get out of hand. I think we were talking the other day with Bryan (Murray) on the road trip and we were talking about the best deals he’s made and he’s made quite a lot over his NHL career, but for Ottawa you look at just the fact of getting a number one goalie. In Craig’s case, it’s probably one of the deals that put the franchise on the right track, so I think with Craig, he’s so quiet. He doesn’t really talk a lot about personal success, but to me, he’s one of the most underrated players in the league.”

It’s totally fair, but with the storyline involving Craig’s wife undergoing cancer treatment and everything that he’s had to deal with off the ice, it’s impossible not to pull for Anderson and everything he’s had to endure this season.

On what has to happen for Clarke MacArthur to reset his situation this offseason…

“Well, to me, I didn’t get a chance to get to read the article, so I’m not exactly sure. But, I was just told a little bit of tidbits about it before coming on air here. First of all, the doctors will decide at the end of the day. We want Clarke to play. Clarke wants to play, but I think the doctors will decide at the end of the day if they clear him and they’ll be the people that decide that. As far as having Clarke around, he’s great to have around. He’s great leader. He’s a great teammate. He can only help our chemistry (and) our room to have around and skating with the guys. There’s no issues there and then once we get to what needs to be done post this season and in-line for next year, if the doctors clear him, then I don’t see a problem. I think in these cases, you’ve got to make sure that it’s a human being. To me, hockey’s a great game, but life is way more important. We have to make sure that we sit down with Clarke and understand all the consequences or ramifications of him coming back and playing. I think when you put all that together, we hope he comes back. We’re going to cheer him on and hope that everything is right, but at the end of the day, the doctors will have the final word here.”

Considering the circumstances, I don’t know what else Clarke MacArthur is supposed to say. It’s obvious that he wanted to play this season, but was shut down because doctors saw something within his medical file that they were not comfortable with. At least comfortable enough to allow him to continue his playing career. Having missed the past two regular seasons, it’s hard to believe that MacArthur will reach a point wherein he’ll receive medical clearance, but I have enough confidence in his abilities to believe that he could positively impact the Senators’ roster if healthy. He was just that good of a player.

On Colin White and whether he has a chance to play on the Senators before the end of the year…

“I’m not sure. I’m not sure just for the simple reason that I think right now with all the additions that we’ve made, we’ve got enough depth that we can sustain injuries. I really like (Phil) Varone when he’s been called up. To put in a 19 or 20-year old into a playoff race or a playoff game when you don’t have that baggage of experience is something that I’m not sure is best for us and best for the kid. But, we’re going to look at every option possible and I know sometimes we make NHL players sometimes better than they ought to be – though in this case, I’m sure that he’ll be a long-term NHL player for us – but we just got to be careful here about expectations and we don’t the kid to lose confidence – so we’re going to be careful. We’re going to look at it. We’re going to talk about it amongst ourselves and the coaches and we have a lot of good people here in (Daniel Alfredsson, Bryan Murray, Randy Lee and myself) and talk to the coaching staff about what would be the best course of action, then we’ll make a decision once the season is completed. Ideally, I’d like him to play until April so that means he’s (playing in) another Frozen Four. They don’t have as good a team as last year, but you never know what can happen once the playoffs start.”

Even though I believe the bar is set really low for Colin White to clear, this response from Dorion isn’t exactly beaming with optimism for White’s prospective chances to stick with this roster.

On the possibility that Colin White could play in the AHL once his season is over…

“Yeah, and that might not be the worst course of action – to realize that the AHL is a very difficult league and you’re playing against men there and the men there are as strong as the guys in the NHL. At that level, the passes aren’t always on the tape, so all options will be discussed. But, we’ll just wait until the season ends and then we’ll have an update for everyone.”

Great….

On whether he’s confident that Colin White will be there in training camp next fall…

“We’ll wait until his season ends. You’re trying hard, but we’ll just wait until his season ends and we’ll go about it from that point of view.”

Sure.

On whether the organization learns from player development like Curtis Lazar and whether that impacts how the organization handles a player like Colin White…

“You always hope to learn from lessons in the past. But I think, case-by-case, I think every player it’s a different scenario. I think both Colin and Curtis are different players. I think people tend to forget how good Curtis Lazar was when we had our playoff run a few years ago – how him and (Jean-Gabriel) Pageau and (Erik) Condra were arguably our best line and one of the big reasons we got into the playoffs. I think sometimes we’ve got to take a step back and always re-evaluate what we’re doing. I think there’s a question of mental strength in every player’s case. Some guys can handle adversity a bit better than others while others can’t. It’s how mentally strong a kid is – if he goes through a bit of adversity because they all think they can play in the NHL. They all think they can step in and contribute and rarely that’s the case. So we’ve got to make sure that whatever we do that when you’re a young prospect, we have to surround you and make sure that you’re in a situation where the team can benefit but more importantly, the player can develop and grow in that situation.”

Curtis Lazar was at his best because Condra and Pageau did most of the work. Not surprisingly, Pageau’s numbers haven’t been the same since and more than anything, it’s transparent that Pageau needs more help than the shittacular talent Ottawa has trotted out on his wings ever since. He not only needs some more offensive talent, he needs a player who can help transition the puck from the defensive end to the offensive end. Too often, he’s been saddled with dump and chase linemates who have a difficult time preserving puck possession in the offensive end.

On what it’s like to get out and grasp the situation facing his team while getting out and observing this year’s prospects…

“Well, I’ve been out a bit and not as much as in previous years. I think last year was the first time I didn’t get out as much. I obviously saw all the players in the first round quite a bit, but after that, I didn’t see them as much. The year before that, I pretty much saw everyone we picked so your title’s changed and your role has changed, so I haven’t been out as much. But just an indication, if you think this is a bad draft, how come only one or two first rounders have been traded? So, I don’t think the depth of the draft may be that great, but I had the chance to see quite a bit of first rounders at the prospect game and other games that I’ve been out (at) and at the same time, our scouts feel that the top two rounds are going to get good NHL players – hence the reason we took a second round pick for Curtis Lazar and we didn’t have one before. We still feel we’re going to get at least two good NHL players and hopefully with our other picks, we can hit a homerun or get someone who can help us down the road.”

Or maybe teams are wizening up to the reality of trading years of player control for a few months of a rental?

On how this draft’s shortcomings are overstated…

“No, we’re going to get players. I think every team is going to get a player. To me, it’s always an indication. When a lot of picks move, sometimes you say, ‘Okay, maybe we can’t get what we wanted.’ But, when only, I think, two teams have given up their first rounders for the upcoming draft, it might not be as exciting a top-end, but the first round depth looks pretty good from what I can attest (to) and what I’ve seen. Sometimes we think a draft is made by what is at the top, but also it can be (what’s available) through the first round that makes a really good draft.”

Hopefully the Senators find some value in the first few rounds. With the expected graduation of prospects like Colin White and Thomas Chabot to the parent roster, coupled with the Jonathan Dahlen trade to Vancouver, the Senators can use some more talent to fill out their prospect ranks.

On whether the Senators are in on any NCAA free agents…

“Yes, but there are some reports that are totally false about guys that we’re in (on). I think people know that we’ve always tried to go after college free agents. We always try to go after the better ones. Sometimes we don’t, but we have a list of, whether it’s five or seven guys that we talk to, sometimes people throw our names onto players that we’re not even interested in. I had the chance to… I thought I was going to see Colin White on the weekend, but I ended up going to see some college free agents – at which I knew where we are with Colin, so I think at the same time, it was an opportunity to see some of the better ones out there. We’re still going to pursue that, but at the same time, if we don’t get anyone, we’ll still be alright.”

The Senators haven’t hit on a good collegiate prospect in years, but with that said, Binghamton (or next year’s Belleville club) could desperately afford some decent prospect depth.

OTTAWA, CANADA – JANUARY 26: Bobby Ryan #9 of the Ottawa Senators skates against the Calgary Flames during an NHL game at Canadian Tire Centre on January 26, 2017 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Photo by Francois Laplante/Freestyle Photography/Getty Images)

Persistent negative criticisms on social media have led to Bobby Ryan’s decision to quit Twitter

Rather than maintain his public account, Ryan has elected to abandon his verified account that had more than 250,000 followers for a new and private account that will allow him to follow his favourite accounts anonymously.

And just when you thought you could only expect diminished returns on the ice.

It’s not the first time that a Senators player has shut down their Twitter account.

Mark Borowiecki admitted to shutting down his account (@TheBoroCop) last season and Curtis Lazar did the same as he endured a goalless 2016-17 season before being dealt to the Calgary Flames at this year’s trade deadline.

For struggling or underappreciated players, social media can be mentally exhausting as these players are constantly bombarded with messages criticizing their respective talents or performances.

It’s just a shame that Ryan has made an effort to remain out of the public’s eye since he is one of the most engaging and candid personalities on the team.

Although Ryan admitted to TSN‘s Ian Mendes that there was no particular moment or tweet that led to his decision, some believed that his decision was a culmination of a discussion that happened on Twitter last night between myself, SensChirp and Shawn Simpson.

It began with a tweet by me that eventually was relayed to Ryan via a Sens fan who tagged Ryan in the conversation.

Whether it was the straw that broke the camel’s back is only known to Ryan, but any criticism of Ryan was isolated to his inconspicuous absence from the lineup and his relative on-ice performance this season.

“People ask about the negativity thing, but you can filter that as much as you want. I try not to engage because I’m never going to win an argument with a guy in his basement, so why bother?” Ryan explained. “You get nowhere with it. At a certain point, you can get it out of your life and not worry about it.”

Shitting on people who live in basements are Ryan’s forte however.

“I got Instagram in the summer. I chirped [Ryan] Dzingel on his account all summer long and he had no clue who it was until he moved into my basement and I told him it was me,” laughed Ryan. “And he told me, ‘Hey, I was losing sleep over those comments.’”

In Ryan’s case, as Ottawa’s highest-paid player, he has been a frequent source of criticism because he has one of the worst contracts in the NHL. His performance and production is not commensurate with the opportunity cost and contract extension that the Ottawa Senators gave him — seven years and $50.25-million ($7.25-million average annual value). (As an aside, Ryan has five more seasons remaining on his current deal.)

In fairness to Ryan, it’s not his fault that the Senators painted themselves into a corner by fucking up the Daniel Alfredsson contract negotiations and feeling like they had to make amends to their fan base after an improbable playoff run during the lockout shortened season. It never helped that the Senators acquired paid a handsome price for a player who had one-year remaining on his deal before unrestricted free agency and put the organization in a position where they felt compelled to hand Ryan a blank cheque to remain with the organization.

And here we are.

Say what you want about the biting criticisms, but I’ll give Shawn Simpson credit: he’s consistently open with his critiques from the moment that he took his job with TSN 1200.

Since day one, he’s been blatantly honest with his criticisms and more to the point, they’re pretty accurate. From calling out Bobby Ryan to Mika Zibanejad on their conditioning, he’s been bang on as more information comes to the light of day. I mean, there’s a reason why Bryan Murray refuses to let Simpson interview him whenever he make an appearance on ‘The Drive’ program. Dude’s brutally honest.

The Buckeyes got a complete effort in beating back the Mountain Hawks.

Ohio State baseball won its second game in a row and pulled its record to 2-2 on its spring break trip to Florida on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Lehigh by a score of 7-3 at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte.

The win improved the Buckeyes’ record to 7-8, meaning they are within striking distance of finishing the first month of the season away from home at the .500 mark.

12 hits were banged out by the Ohio State bats in this one, with four of those going for extra bases. Tre’ Gantt extended his reached base streak to all 15 games thus far this season, homering, walking twice, and scoring a pair of runs, Jalen Washington reached base three times and scored twice, and Zach Ratcliff and Tyler Cowles drove in two runs apiece to pace the offense.

Noah McGowan, Bo Coolen, and Dominic Canzone also had multi-hit games for the Buckeyes, who have one game left in the Sunshine State before returning to Columbus for their home opener on Friday.

Making his first career start on the mound in scarlet and gray was freshman right-hander Jake Vance. After working 3.1 innings and yielding just one run in two relief appearances to date, the Canton Central Catholic product equipped himself adequately, despite lasting just 3.2 innings. Vance allowed three runs on five hits, walking a pair and striking out one.

Out of the bullpen, Austin Woodby tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts, Joe Stoll punched out four in two scoreless innings of his own, and Curtiss Irving worked a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the victory.

Lehigh sent junior righty Matt Ratner to the bump, and he brought with him an earned run average over eight in three appearances during the early season. Those numbers held true to form, as he allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in just two innings of work before being pulled by head coach Sean Leary.

The Mountain Hawks fell to 2-9 on the year rand now have a four-game losing streak.

If Vance had any first start jitters, he didn’t make them apparent. In the first inning, he needed just nine pitches to send Lehigh down in order. And his offense rewarded him for his efforts in the bottom of the frame, staking him to a 2-0 lead.

Gantt walked and Washington was hit by a Ratner pitch to lead things off. McGowan and Ratcliff followed with consecutive RBI hits to get the Buckeyes on the board.

The ease of the first inning for Vance dissipated quickly in the second, though, as the Mountain Hawks got back-to-back singles by Patrick Donnelly and David Young to start things off, and Donnelly moved up to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, John Scarr lifted a sacrifice fly to Gantt in center to cut the lead in half.

But Ohio State got that run right back in the bottom of the second. Cowles drew a leadoff walk, Canzone singled, and Jacob Barnwell laid down a bunt base hit to load the bases with nobody out. After Ratner induced a pop-out off the bat of Gantt, Washington delivered a sacrifice fly of his own to bring Cowles plateward and make it a 3-1 ballgame.

The next inning, the Buckeyes added another run and chased Ratner from the game. Coolen led off with a single and Brady Cherry doubled to gap in left-center to put two runners in scoring position. Cowles then sent a fly ball to center, bringing Coolen home to score.

Sam Ashley relieved for Lehigh and got Canzone and Barnwell to end the inning and limit the damage.

Lehigh refused to go away, though, working Vance for two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to one. Young walked and Jeff Shanfeldt singled to put two runners on, and both advanced a base on another wild pitch. A Scarr groundout and a single by Connor Donovan scored them.

Vance then issued his second walk of the outing to Stephen Fitzgerald, which ended his day. Austin Woodby came on out of the bullpen and got James Bleming to fly out to Canzone in right to end the inning.

Once again, Ohio State had an answer, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning. Gantt led off by taking Ashley deep to right field, his second homer of the season. Washington then singled and McGowan doubled to give the Buckeyes two runners in scoring position with no one down. Ratcliff’s second RBI of the day, this one on a sacrifice fly to left, made it a 6-3 advantage.

All stayed quiet from there until the bottom of the seventh, when Ohio State tacked on its final run against Mountain Hawk reliever Cole McManimon. Coolen collected his second single of the day, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and came around to score on a single by Cowles.

Ohio State will finish up its stint in the Snowbird Classic on Wednesday afternoon against Bucknell. First pitch from North Charlotte Regional Park is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET.

The veteran quarterback is prepared for his final season with the Buckeyes.

“Is it going to be perfect all the time? No. Being the quarterback, you get a lot of the blame, which I’m OK with. I accept it. But also, understand that bad things are going to happen, and I feel like I’m the best person for the job that we have at Ohio State.”

- J.T. Barrett via Austin Ward, ESPN

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has had one of the most prolific careers in Columbus and yet, heading into his senior season, there have been questions about whether some of the younger quarterbacks behind him should have been given the reins. But Barrett has had the noise before and is more than aware of what people are saying about him. One of the best statistical quarterbacks in Ohio State history, the veteran signal-caller has one final chance to prove some of his doubters wrong. After a fantastic freshman season that ended with an injury, Barrett has been up and down after splitting time with Cardale Jones in 2015 and then his completion percentage taking a hit after last season.

But with more experience all around him, 2017 looks to be better for Barrett. And under Kevin Wilson’s new offense, it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to return to form. He’s currently being set up to succeed this season and with some interesting talent at wide receiver, it could be a good shot to get back on track. Regardless, Barrett has been a winner first and foremost at Ohio State, compiling 26 wins in his three seasons. Now he’ll look to take it a step further and shoot for a national championship.

“I've got my hands on him personally. Josh Alabi is killing it right now, switching over to offensive line from defense. He's just going hard.”

- Billy Price via Bill Landis, Cleveland.com

With the bevy of talent on the defensive line at Ohio State each season, it can be tough for players to crack even a chance at making the rotation, much less starting. And when players such as Josh Alabi find themselves in that position, it’s not the worst idea into looking for other ways to contribute. And so Alabi has been getting work at right tackle this offseason with help from Billy Price, who also originally made the switch from defensive lineman to offensive lineman. Price has been a starter all four seasons with Ohio State and now has taken over center duties. With the depth at offensive tackle a concern, it makes sense for Alabi to make the move.

From what Price was saying, it sounds like the redshirt sophomore has been playing very well at his new position and it could make all the difference on a thin offensive line for the Buckeyes. While it may not be likely that he starts, it’s certainly a possibility down the line if he continues to perform well. He played both offensive and defensive line in high school so the position isn’t all that new to him, and it should help him catch up quickly with his teammates.

“[64-team bracket in college football] 1-seeds: Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida State”

- Chris Low, ESPN

The NCAA March Madness tournament is upon us once again, which means it’s time to fill out those brackets. Chris Low of ESPN took a nice spin on the college basketball tournament and applied it to college football and imagined what the tournament would like with 64 teams. Earning the one seeds, as you can see above, were Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Florida State. Low also predicted what the Sweet Sixteen would even look like. In the first round, Low has the Buckeyes pounding 16-seed Colorado State 45-7, following up with a second-round thumping of the eight-seed, Kansas State, to a tune of 31-13.

The Sweet Sixteen matchup for the Buckeyes would be against the fourth-seeded Miami Hurricanes with the winner playing either Penn State or USC with the two and three-seed respectively. The only other Big Ten team to make the Sweet Sixteen was Michigan as a five-seed who would have to face the top-seeded Oklahoma for a chance at the next round.

One of the team’s best players won’t be back next season.

Ohio State basketball projects to return almost all of their players next year, but one important member won’t be coming back, according to ESPN.

Jeff Goodman tweets that Ohio State’s Trevor Thompson has informed the network that he will forgo his final season of college.

That jives with a report from the 11th that claimed Thompson would not return to Ohio State, one that was quickly refuted by his father. But now that Ohio State has learned that it will not be playing in the postseason, Thompson’s decision timetable may have moved up.

Losing Thompson is a big loss for the Buckeyes. He improved every season in Columbus, posting 10.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks a game, emerging as one of the best players on the team. His minutes will likely go to Micah Potter, who started many games for the Buckeyes and provides more outside shooting, or incoming freshman Kaleb Wesson.

Thompson may be a fringe NBA prospect right now, but he could still pursue a professional career overseas, or in the G-League, and make some nice money.

We’ll see if this means Ohio State pursues a graduate transfer this offseason to give depth to the frontcourt, or offers additional scholarships in the 2017 class.

The Buckeyes had another tilt with an in-state program.

An in-state battle against a MAC squad used to be a nearly annual event for Ohio State football, but such teams are absent from Buckeye schedules over the next few years. But according to a new report, fans hoping for another Buckeye State squad to make a trip to the Horseshoe won’t have to wait too much longer.

According to FBSchedules.com, Ohio State will host Bowling Green on September 5, 2020. The Buckeyes are 5-0 against Bowling Green, with their most recent meeting coming last season, a 77-10...massacre. Four of Ohio State’s five wins over BGSU have come by at least double digits.

The Buckeyes are currently slated to travel to Oregon the following week, leaving one open date for the 2020 non-conference schedule. Since Ohio State has three non-conference games scheduled for 2017, 2018 and 2019, that would be the most recent upcoming open spot. It will probably be another Group of Five caliber opponent.

Ohio State will reportedly pay $1.2 million to BGSU for the game.
