After years of negotiations failed to bring an outdoor game to Parliament Hill, it sounds like an agreement has finally been reached to play a 2017-18 regular season game featuring the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens at TD Place at Lansdowne this upcoming December.

The original Senators played the Montreal Canadiens on December 19, 1917 for the NHL’s first game in history, but this event is also significant because the Senators and the City of Ottawa also want the event to headline Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will arrive in town tomorrow morning from for Jim Watson’s mayor’s breakfast event, but it sounds like an official announcement on the game could come today.



Although the game will lack the historically unprecedented backdrop that Parliament Hill would provide, this isn’t like a vintage John Muckler trade where he addresses the fan base at the conclusion of the NHL trade deadline and says, “Hey, we’ve acquired Tyler Arnason. At least we did something.”

It may not be the venue that everyone hoped for, but this isn’t some half-assed compromise. TD Place is an excellent downtown venue to house this event and Ottawa’s fortunate to get it. Yes, even if it means enduring a cold-weather event where the hockey will be played under sub-optimal conditions.

Now the only debates left are which jerseys to wear (2D) and who to invite to play in the alumni game.

My ballot (note: Chara, Fisher and Hossa would be locks, but I’m assuming they’ll play next season):

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Ohio State baseball concluded its six-day spring break trip with a 5-2 win over Bucknell Wednesday afternoon at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Connor Curlis struck out a career-high eight batters in his first start, while the Buckeye bats scored two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and a pair of runs in the seventh. With their third straight victory, the Scarlet and Gray improve to 8-8 overall, while the Bison drop to 6-8 in 2017.

“We got exactly what we needed from Connor today,” head coach Greg Beals said. “It’s good to see him get a start and take advantage of it. He got his opportunity today and was really good. On the fifth game of a road trip, to be able to go five-plus for us was really critical. It allowed our bullpen to be scripted and finish the ball game. I’m really happy with Connor’s start. We’ve been on the road four weeks now, and we are not where we want to be, but we are on a three-game win streak and we look forward to being back home and continue our winning ways.”

Could the Buckeyes be on track to landing their fifth 2018 commit?

While you may have been watching the play-in games and gearing up for the NCAA Basketball Tournament, Ohio State football received good news on a prospect they offered about one week ago.

Harris ready to be a Buckeye?


As of today, it was just eight days ago that Ohio State delivered an offer to 2018 inside linebacker Michael Harris. Perhaps, what wasn't known at the time was how much impact that day would have on the 6-foot-2, 213-pounder.

According to Jeremy Birmingham of LandOf10.com, Harris was interviewed by Jeff Santell of DawgNation.com and he didn't hold back on what the offer from the Buckeyes meant to him.

Birmingham states that Harris told Santell that the day he got the offer from the Scarlet and Gray was the best day of his life and one that he would replay repeatedly. Harris continued by saying Ohio State was his favorite college.

Now, as we stated, Ohio State has offered. Obviously, the interest is there from both parties. The biggest factor is if their is room for Harris, a top 15 inside linebacker in the country, to be a Buckeye. Right now, Ohio State has four commitments in the class but none of them are from linebackers. However, some names to watch include Dallas Gant, Adrian Jackson, Christopher Oats and Payton Wilson. Perhaps the best thing going for Harris here is that those four, who Ohio State is likely in the best position for, are currently pegged as outside linebackers.

If there is room, Harris seems to be locked in for the Buckeyes. When Santell asked the three-star linebacker the likelihood of an Ohio State commitment, if he qualifies as he hopes, Harris said "100 percent."

Mitchell thinking OSU visit


Sticking to the linebacker script, another name to monitor going forward is '18 ILB Teradja Mitchell of Bishop Sullivan Catholic (VA).

Mitchell is currently graded out as a five-star prospect in the class and the No. 18 player in the country. In addition to that, the 6-foot-2, 232-pounder is also pegged as the second best player at his position and the very best player from the Old Dominion State.

Ohio State has done a good job thus far in their pursuit of Mitchell and it looks to be paying off as he is thinking of making a trip up to Columbus in the near future.


As recent as early February, Mitchell revealed a Top 11 list that included the Buckeyes. Truth is, this visit is vital for Ohio State if they have any chance to ultimately land Mitchell—and have him become apart of their class.

The reason being is that Florida State looks to be the team in the driver’s seat to be the winner in the battle for Mitchell. According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball for the Virginia Beach native, the Seminoles have 100 percent of the predictions. We will see how "soon" said visit will take place and if it can shake things up in Mitchell's recruitment.

With the NFL Draft looming closer, it’s time again for the latest round of draft predictions. Noted draft guru Todd McShay released his latest projected selections, and he has the first Buckeye going off the board at No. 6.

Defensive back Marshon Lattimore is predicted to go to the New York Jets — the same team where former Buckeye standout Darron Lee was selected to a year ago. Right behind the Jets are the Los Angeles Chargers, who just like the Jets, are predicted to select another Buckeye in the 2017 edition of the draft. This time around, McShay believes that Malik Hooker will be going out West — just as Joey Bosa did when the Chargers, then in San Diego, selected him with the No. 3 pick in 2016.

The question that might come up for Ohio sports fans: will a Buckeye stay in the state by either being selected by the Cleveland Browns or Cincinnati Bengals? In the first round, it doesn’t appear so, as the Browns are projected to go with Texas A&M standout Myles Garrett with the first pick, and Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson; the Bengals are focused on the inside linebacker position, and aren’t going with a member of the Scarlet and Gray.

Switching back to people who are still with the Buckeyes, quarterback J.T. Barrett has been under fire of late not by the defenses trying to sack him, but from the media and fans who are skeptical of the senior quarterback being cemented as the starter in Columbus.

On Tuesday, ESPN.com ran an article looking into the reasons for why it seems like Barrett is being ushered out of the QB 1 position for the Bucks. In that article, Barrett said people want the latest and greatest thing, which is why there are murmurs of putting one of the backups into a starting role.

While the odds of Barrett being dethroned in Columbus are relatively low, considering he has a 26-4 record as the signal caller, the mere suggestion that the question was being proposed, talked about, or even looked at got the attention of former Buckeye QB Kirk Herbstreit.

Herbstreit took to Twitter to voice his opinions — and even made a few responses defending Barrett.


Here’s a response to when someone said that Barrett was responsible for the 31-0 loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.


Haters are gonna hate, no matter what. The haterade gets drunk in greater quantities when you are a constant winner, but can’t win the championship on a yearly basis.

With a revamped coaching staff, this could be the opportunity that silences the Barrett haters.

With the NCAA Basketball Tournament getting ready to take off (for real) on Thursday, those teams won’t be the only ones competing for a title.

The NCAA Wrestling Championships start on Thursday in St. Louis, and there will be a decent showing of Ohio State Buckeyes looking to bring another title back home to Columbus.

Big Ten Champion Kollin Moore, who won the conference crown in the 197-pound weight class earlier in March, comes into the NCAA Championships as the No. 3 seed. Sitting with a record of 28-3, Moore will be tough contender to bring down, as his only losses have come against the top two wrestlers. Moore already proved he can win the big matches, as he had to take down the No.1 seed to win the conference title.

Olympic champion Kyle Snyder is back at No. 1 seed for the NCAAs. On the year, Snyder holds an undefeated record (12-0) and is riding a 23-match win streak. Fresh off a Big Ten championship, Snyder has been named a finalist for the AAU James Sullivan Award, an award given to the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States.

Also a No. 1 seed in their respective division is Nathan Tomasello. After winning his third Big Ten title, Tomasello rolls into the Scottrade Center in St. Louis with a 19-0 record. Last season, Tomasello came in third place at the NCAA championships, and picked up All-American honors. This year, Tomasello looks to get the 133-pound championship, while improving his impressive record against ranked opponents (10-0).

The other members representing the Buckeyes at the NCAA Championships include Jose Rodriguez, Luke Pletcher, Micah Jordan, Cody Burcher, Bo Jordan and NCAA Champion Myles Martin.

The Buckeyes earned their first win versus a top-10 team on the road in gritty fashion.

The Ohio State Buckeyes men’s lacrosse team earned their biggest win of the year in a 6-3 effort over the 10th-ranked Towson Tigers Wednesday in Maryland. With the win, the Buckeyes move to 8-0 on the season as they prepare for a tough, three-game stretch against the top three teams in the nation.

Both teams went nearly the entire first quarter without scoring, despite 17 combined shots by the Buckeyes and Tigers. Ohio State finally opened up scoring nearly 13 minutes into the opening quarter on a goal by attackman Lukas Buckley--the freshman’s 10th goal of the season. Senior midfielder Johnny Pearson fed off the newfound momentum and quickly found the back of the net once more to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The defenses stayed unyielding through the second quarter. Towson scored their first goal of the game with 5:13 remaining in the half, but sophomore attackman Jack Jasinski connected on a shot 1:35 later to maintain the Buckeyes’ two-goal advantage before the break.

After the half, Towson found some momentum throughout the third quarter, scoring two goals with 9:12 and 2:42 remaining in the quarter to tie things up with the Buckeyes. Ohio State was held scoreless throughout the entire quarter, which has not happened since the first quarter of the Buckeyes’ matchup with Jacksonville in February.

The Buckeyes finally managed to breakthrough the stalemate in the fourth quarter. Senior attackman Eric Fannell scored 1:55 into the final quarter to give the Buckeyes the lead. Senior midfielder John Kelly then followed up with his first goal of the game midway through the quarter to match Ohio State’s largest lead of the game. Freshman midfielder Tre Leclaire, the Buckeyes’ leading scorer, capped the Buckeyes’ run on a goal with 2:39 remaining in the game.

For the first time this season, no Ohio State player scored more than one goal, as six total players found the back of the net. The Buckeyes also had only a single assist, courtesy of Jasinski, on the final goal of the game.

Senior goalie Tom Carey recorded eight saves on 11 shots on goal by Towson. The Tigers, meanwhile, had 11 saves on 17 shots on goal by Ohio State. The Buckeyes outshot the Tigers overall by a 34-27 margin.

In terms of possession, Ohio State dominated the faceoff game, with senior specialist Jake Withers winning 11-of-13 faceoffs. The Buckeyes also edged out the Tigers in groundballs, picking up 25 to Towson’s 20.

With the loss, Towson falls to 4-2 on the season.

Next up, the Buckeyes return home to face No. 1 Denver in Columbus. Ohio State is then scheduled to face No. 2 Notre Dame in South Bend before opening Big Ten play with No. 3 Penn State in Happy Valley.
