COLUMBUS, Ohio: Former Ohio State football player Todd Bell died this morning of an apparent heart attack while driving his car in Columbus. Todd played defensive back for the Buckeyes from 1977 to 1980 and was a four-year starter. He was an All-Big Ten selection as a junior and senior.
Bell, who also competed on the OSU track team, had his best year as a junior, recording 87 tackles. He scored two touchdowns that year, including the winning score in an 18-15 win at Michigan where he scooped up a blocked punt and ran it into the end zone. The win sent the 11-0 Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl, where they lost a 17-16 decision to USC, costing them the national championship. In that game, the athletic Bell ran down Heisman Trophy winner Charles White from behind and stripped him of the ball to prevent a touchdown - a play that ranks as one of the great plays in Ohio State football lore.
Bell was from Middletown High School and was one of the most highly recruited football players in the nation as a senior.

Romo successfully defends celebrity golf title

Tony Romo completed a wire-to-wire victory Sunday in the American Century Championship for his second consecutive win in the celebrity tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst closed with a 2-over 74 and scored 20 points to finish at 71 in the modified Stableford scoring system. Former pitcher Mark Mulder, the winner in 2015-17, was 10 points back after a 71 and a 24-point day.

Scholarship Roster By Class

One other observation at just how top-heavy our recruiting can be.

We have 43 kids rated in the top 10 at their position. Logic might indicate that we would have a similar number rated 11-20. But in fact their are only 10.

I should also mention that incoming honorable mention OL Jonah Jackson was recruited as the #170 OT and wasn't in the top 1,000 players rated.

Knee Injuries

Well, it's been over two months. Knee is still giving occasional pops and stabs of pain, which the Doc said is normal while the bone heals and the abscess fills out with marrow. Fortunately, I've been maintaining a strict Gin & Vermouth regimen to keep the knee limber. I'll see the Doc again next week, and if the internal swelling hasn't gone down, I'm on crutches for 10 days.

The Big Ten announced Wednesday that three Hall of Famers, Lorenzo White of Michigan State, Tom Osborne of Nebraska and Barry Alvarez of Wisconsin, will attend the 2019 Big Ten Football Kickoff Luncheon, held Friday, July 19, in the International Ballroom at the Hilton Chicago. White will be recognized as a member of the 2019 College Football Hall of Fame class, and will be available for autographs and take part in group interviews during the luncheon. Osborne and Alvarez will also be interviewed during the luncheon as the conference celebrates the 150th anniversary of college football. The action kicks off
