Presidents Cup

2019 Presidents Cup results, scores: Tiger Woods leads U.S. to first comeback win in event history

A Ryder Cup broke out at this year's Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne in Australia where the United States won their eighth consecutive edition of this event, 16-14. That's the highest praise I can give to a team competition that hasn't exactly been rife with thrills and chills in its history.

This year, though, we got it all. All the drama (on and off the course) to go along with elite golf, an unbelievably close competition and a handful of iconic Presidents Cup moments, including the Americans becoming the first team in event history to come from behind and win on the final day of competition.

I guess I could say I saw this coming since my prediction coming into the week was the U.S. winning 16-14, but I didn't see this coming. Not Patrick Reed's caddie getting tossed from the event or Tiger Woods going 3-0-0 as a playing captain or Matt Kuchar (!) sinking the winning putt.

Major come back. Glad to see them rise up and put away a team that they should’ve walked over in the first place.

Robert Beal (LB Georgia Bulldogs, transfer to ???)

Four-star 2017 LB Robert Beal leaving Georgia

gettyimages-1033932832-e1576176419793.jpg

A four-star 2017 signee, Beal was rated as the No. 8 weakside defensive end in the country and the No. 11 player at any position in the state of Georgia. Only a pair of safeties, Richard LeCounte and Deangelo Gibbs, were rated higher signees on the defensive side of the ball for UGA that year.

Despite that recruiting pedigree, and after redshirting as a true freshman, Beal appeared in just 10 games during his time with the Bulldogs. Three of those appearances came during the 2019 season.

Jeffery "Scooby" Carter (CB Alabama Crimson Tide)

Corner who was suspended for missing class, entered portal will instead remain at Alabama

gettyimages-1146369687-e1573921461726.jpg

Scooby Carter‘s winding college football odyssey will leave him right where he started — Tuscaloosa.

On his radio show in mid-November, Nick Saban revealed that he had to suspend a player for the Mississippi State game in Starkville because he missed a class, although the head coach didn’t reveal the player’s identity at the time; on the day of the game, it was confirmed that the player in question was Carter (pictured, No.11). Not long after, the true freshman cornerback announced that he was entering his name into the NCAA transfer database.

Wednesday, Carter’s father confirmed to al.com that his son has opted to remain at ‘Bama and has rejoined the Crimson Tide football team. The return was preceded by at least one conversation with Saban.

According to the dad, several unnamed schools reached out to Carter, but the opportunity to play for the head coach (again) proved to be the deciding factor.

“Regardless of whoever it was or whatever it was (with other schools), it’s not Alabama and it’s not with Coach Saban,” Jeffery Carter Sr. told the website. “I feel that this the best place we’ll be able to mature and grow up.”

Just sayin': Kudos to his father, I think his father got it right here, i.e. recognized the fact that "Scooby just needs to mature and grow up":

Bands that shouldn't have broken up

Band ruined by death: H.E.L.P.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer formed what would become the biggest "supergroup" of the decade in 1970. They put together a hasty arrangement of songs and played the infamous Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 as only their second live show. Hendrix was going to join ELP the following month forming H.E.L.P., because he wanted to try his hand at something experimental and progressive. Hendrix died 26 days later.

ELP later decided they wouldn't even bother with auditioning any other guitarists, so Greg Lake took up the guitar and they went on as a three-piece.
(Old thread i kinow but since Script resurrected it...). Never heard that story about ELP--would have been epic. Saw them at the Muni for one of the first World Series of Rock concerts. 73 or 74. Revolving drum stage, spinning grand piano...pretty over the top; and a couple times at Richfield--(the Big House on the Prairie I think it was called?).
Funny how many of the bands listed here got back together for cash in tours.
