NCAA is trying to do what's right. TT and their booster are the ones taking it to court.
Oh I agree but no faith they’ll stand their ground in the face of pressure from boosters, universities, or the conference.

Just never know. There was a team that essentially fixed football games for 2.5 years and they got nothing. Then there was a team with an ineligible player and they vacated wins lol

No one knows what’s real with the NCAA

Dumbest Professional Team Nickname

Are we talking current or former? There were some weird-assed ones in the 70s. And Major League or also Minor League, because Minor League baseball has some doozies. Personally, I might go with the Jazz, which is a great name for New Orleans but they should have changed it when they left because the Utah Jazz makes about as much sense as...the Los Angeles Lakers does.

But for just dumbfuck names? How about the Phillies? Isn't that like calling us the Cleveland Clevies? Like you couldn't come up with something better than that?
I agree. The Senators had the sense to change their name to the Rangers when they moved from Washington to Texas. The Expos to the Nationals when they moved from Montreal to Washington. Names like the Braves, Athletics, Dodgers, Giants.... are interchangable to different cities but you're right, Lakers and Jazz do not. You could argue that the Padres, if they ever moved, would have to change their name because they're named after the priests in the old Spanish missions.

People to Punch, Pet Peeves, and General Vexations (mega-merge)

No violation, just maybe don't twist/dislocate your ankle requiring 4 surgeries and an erector set cage to be screwed into your leg and foot. It doesn't feel good.
On the plus side, 3 surgeries down, and I get to go home for a while today.
A year ago I was a split second away from jumping off of a container four feet off of the ground as if I was still 18. Luckily I suddenly remembered that I'm no longer 18.

Professional Tennis (official thread)

One of the top-5 matches I’ve ever seen.

I remember waking up early in Vegas to watch the Borg-McEnroe Wimbledon Final in 1980, which had an epic 18-16 tiebreaker won by McEnroe in the 4th set. Borg then won the final set 8-6 since they didn’t play final set tiebreakers back then. It was also a high quality match, with guys hitting winners on most of the critical points.

The classics:

Borg over McEnroe 8-6 in the 5th at the Wimbledon Final in 1980 with the 18-16 4th set tiebreak;
Nadal over Federer 9-7 in the 5th set at the Wimbledon Final in 2007;
Djokovic over Nadal 7-5 in the 5th set at the Aussie Final in 2012 (longest major final at 5h 53 min);
Djokovic over Federer 13-12, a 5th set breaker after Fed was up 8-7, 40-15 with 2 pts on his serve 2019 Wimb Final;
Alcaraz over Sinner 7-6 in the 5th set, 2025 French Final after Alcatraz saved 3 match points at 3-5 0-40 in the 4th set.

Honorable mention:

Federer over Nadal 6-3 in the 5th at the 2017 Aussie Final after being down 1-3 in the 5th set. Cuz I really wanted that win.
I'd add Sampras/Corretja at the US Open in 1996. Also Connors/Patrick McEnroe US Open 1991 that basically sent Pat to the broadcast booth.

And you can't tell me you don't have any Bill Tiden matches to add to that list. You were plenty old enough to appreciate what you were seeing then.

PGA Tour (Official Thread)

For those that play, a cough, laugh, sudden noise can disrupt a swing - badly. Doesn't matter how focused one is, even putting a club back in the bag noisily, can cause problems. Was following a Buckeye player at Pebble, and got a glare when I moved, (was greenside with the hole between he and me), during his putting stroke. Golf is not like football/baseball/basketball, where fans have the right (?) to yell and scream at the players. Do this at the Masters, and you'll be escorted off the course. Fan is short for fanatic, and some of us knuckleheads believe that paying dollars for admission believe that gives us right to vent our opinions (loudly, and often crudely) about a player or a play. The key to Script's post is "after the ball is hit", certainly not during. So, I don't complain about Rory yelling 'shut up' to a 'fan', and applaud him for not adding an epithet to his comment. He'd probably get fined for doing so.
It's Phily, you know what you're going to get...I was actually pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a lot worse than it was in the coverage I saw. I thought the crowd was actually much more well-behaved than the nicest weekend crowd at that mess of a tournament in Phoenix every year. Rory usually lets a lot of crap go, so if he felt the need to clap back, it was probably egregious. But there wasn't nearly as much of that as I was afraid there might be.

NBA Discussion (Official Thread)

Wemby is unreal.
I hope this Wemby phenomenon in a weird way puts some respect back on Wilt Chamberlain too, because the knock I keep hearing from younger people who don't know shit is that "well he (Wilt) did all that just because he was a lot taller than everyone else". Well yes Wemby is 6 inches taller than most everyone...but this shit he can do is crazy. He's already passing like Wilt did at the end of his career too. He is indeed unreal.

'27 CA SF DeMarcus Henry (Verbal Offer)

We've been hearing from the Chris Henry Jr for football for a lifetime it seems, but first glimmer of his kid brother. Did he stay home with his mother, or did he have a coterie of people looking after him like CHJ did? Guess mom doesn't live in Cincy anymore, or the pundits there might have written a story or two about him. Would be great if he came on board, and roomed with his brother. And laced up his sneaks on the hardwood. Go Bucks!

Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Certainly not as learned as most, but would seem to be easier to go up a level, than go down a weight class. Even in a weight class, this is the time of life when a body grows, gains size/weight etc naturally. Certainly as one does weight training, pounds are added, and if memory serves, adding a pound of muscle requires losing, what, eight pounds of fat? Am sure others have better numbs, but can only lose so many pounds of fat, no?

Billie Jean King graduates 65 years after starting at Cal State LA

Billie Jean King raised her right arm in triumph. Not for another victory on the tennis court. This time, she was celebrating earning a college degree 65 years after she first took classes.

The 82-year-old sports and equality icon received her bachelor's in history from Cal State Los Angeles on Monday, walking across the stage in hot pink glasses and royal blue sneakers at the Shrine Auditorium with about 6,000 others in the Class of 2026.

"It's never too late, whatever age you are, whatever your abilities are, go for it if you want it," she said afterward.

King's black gown was accented with a gold graduation stole personalized by a friend. One side included her initials and the letters G.O.A.T., referring to greatest of all time. A multicolored tennis racket was embroidered on the other side.

2027 CA QB Brady Edmunds is a Buckeye!!!

It seems Edmunds is still saying the right things. Could be a ploy for more $, dunno. But from my experience in life, if there's smoke, then there's fire. Totally get the kid protecting himself from 'the talk'. We read about the recruit signing with someone else late in the game, but not as much about the school telling the kid there's no room in the inn for him when it's too late to find another place. Writers talk about the glitz and glamor of recruiting, but there's an ugly underside as well.
