The Buckeyes are also busy hosting many recruits on unofficial visits for spring practices.

Ohio State’s first week of spring practices brought a plethora of headlines along with it. Many of those headlines focused on how the next crop of Buckeyes is looking on the field. There are many position battles taking place this spring, including at the most important position: quarterback.

Another headline grabber has been Ohio State getting to work in recruiting. The Buckeyes hosted dozens of players during the first week of practices, and this week will be nothing but the same. Monday kicked off the week with another handful of recruits being on campus to take in these practices.

The recruiting visits have led to Ohio State dishing out multiple scholarship offers to recruits in both the current 2026 recruiting cycle and also in future cycles as well. The Buckeyes have also been fortunate to be named finalists for many blue-chip recruits following the visits — all in the first week — and on Monday the Buckeyes learned they made the top four schools for a 2026 wide receiver.

Four-star WR Brayden Robinson (Red Oak, TX / Red Oak) has released his top four schools, and Ohio State made the cut.

— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) March 24, 2025

Alongside Ohio State, Robinson also included Arizona, Notre Dame and Miami in his top four schools. Robinson also has official visits already scheduled with all four of his finalists. He will first visit Arizona May 30 and then will travel to Miami June 6. Ohio State will be the recipient of his third visit on June 13, and Notre Dame will get the last visit on June 20.

Ohio State has long been recruiting Robinson, and the Buckeyes offered him in June of last year following a summer recruiting visit. Since then the Ohio State coaching staff has remained in consistent communication with him and Robinson has also stated on multiple occasions his level of respect for coaches Ryan Day and Brian Hartline.

Robinson is the No. 50 WR in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 325 overall prospect. He is also the No. 44 rated recruit out of the talent-rich state of Texas.

Ohio State offers 2026 four-star LB

One of the recruits to visit Ohio State on Monday was 2026 four-star athlete Jacob Eberhart (St. Louis, MO / Kirkwood). The visit went as well as possible, as he left Columbus with an official scholarship offer from the Buckeyes.

— Jacob Eberhart (BTG) (@jacobhart505) March 24, 2025

The Buckeyes will have some stiff competition for Eberhart as he already holds nearly 40 scholarship offers from the likes of Missouri, Illinois, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida State, Iowa, Indiana, LSU, Miami, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Wisconsin and others.

The Missouri native plays multiple positions for his high school team but projects more as a linebacker at the next level. He could look to play wide receiver or safety at the college level but he is built like a linebacker, standing at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds.

Eberhart is the No. 24 ATH in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is also the No. 397 overall prospect. He is also the No. 6 recruit out of Missouri.

Quick Hits

Ohio State played host to many of the nation’s top prospects on Monday. In fact, the day was so busy for Ryan Day, he was roughly an hour late to his press conference with the media.

There is no rest for the wicked though, as Tuesday will be more of the same with another large group of recruits planning on visiting with the Buckeyes. Below are just some of the recruits planning on making the trip to Columbus Tuesday.

NCAA HOCKEY: MAR 23 DI Women’s Championship - Wisconsin vs Buckeyes

Photo by Bailey Hillesheim/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Even though the Buckeyes lost in overtime to Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon, they still had an amazing season that deserves to be recognized.

Ohio State’s women’s hockey team put forth a valiant effort on Sunday in Minneapolis, but they ended up falling short of their second straight national championship, losing to Wisconsin 4-3 in overtime.

Despite the loss, it was still an amazing season for the Buckeyes. There is no question head coach Nadine Muzerall is one of the brightest hockey minds in the country, as evidenced by how she has turned the Ohio State women’s hockey program into one of the best in the country in her nine seasons in charge in Columbus.

I thought as a way to put a bow on the women’s hockey team’s season, we’d look at some interesting numbers related to the Buckeyes. When looking at these numbers, it only amplifies just how good the team has been.

Despite not winning on Sunday, Ohio State still gets stick taps for winning two national championships over the past five years.

3

The Buckeyes and Badgers are in a class by themselves. The two programs have met in each of the last three national title games, with Wisconsin winning two of those battles.

The differences in each of those matchups have been razor thin, with each of those three games being decided by a goal. The 2023 and 2024 games were each 1-0 battles, while this year’s game went into overtime.

Each year it seems like the games between the two teams are ramped up, and this year is no different. Ohio State handed Wisconsin their only regulation loss during the season, beating the Badgers in Columbus. Then they played a classic outdoors at Wrigley Field in early January, with the Buckeyes eventually winning in a shootout.

Unfortunately for Ohio State fans, Wisconsin can now claim two national championship wins in the last three title games.

Maybe this will end up being like the Warriors and Cavaliers in the NBA Finals when they met in four straight years, although Buckeye Nation won’t be as happy as Cleveland fans were with one championship.

62

Leading the charge for Ohio State this year was Joy Dunne, who recorded 62 points, setting a program record for points in a season. Dunne became the first Buckeye to hit the 60-point mark in a season.

The forward from Missouri got even better late in the season, scoring at least one goal in each of Ohio State’s last 10 games. The efforts by Dunne were recognized nationally, as she was named a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top 10 Finalist.

What’s scary is Dunne is already this good and she is only wrapping up her sophomore season. It helps that Dunne has her sisters to lean on when it comes to life at Ohio State and what Coach Muzerall expects, since both Jessica and Jincy are both Buckeye alums.

There’s no doubt Dunne is already going to be one of the best returning players in the country next season, and will be leading an Ohio State team that will be hungry for another title.

42

If you watched any of the national title game, you could see that the Buckeyes were more than willing to put their body on the line if it resulted in the team bringing home a championship. Emma Peschel recorded the most blocked shots on the team this year, stepping in front of 42 shots throughout the season. Peschel’s all-around play was recognized nationally, as she was named a CCM/ACHA Second Team All-American.

Peschel was on Ohio State’s top defensive pair, doing her part to help the Buckeyes allow just over two goals per game. Had it not been for the penalty shot that Wisconsin was awarded with just under 30 seconds left which allowed them to tie the score, Peschel’s slap shot goal 10 seconds into the second period would have been the game-winner.

Expect an even bigger season out of Peschel next year for the Buckeyes since she is just finishing up her junior season.

516

Whenever Ohio State needed a big faceoff win they called on Jocelyn Amos, who finished the year with 516 wins on the dot. Amos was just one of three players in the country to record at least 500 faceoff wins during the season. By winning two-thirds of her faceoffs, it was tough for opponents to get the best of the Buckeye center.

Much like Joy Dunne, Amos is just finishing up her sophomore season in Columbus. The Ontario native finished with 27 goals this season, two goals shy of Dunne’s team lead. Amos had two games where she recorded hat tricks this season, and she actually had a four-goal game against Bemidji State in January.

Along with her goals, Amos added 25 assists to total 52 points. This season the combination of Dunne and Amos almost led the Buckeyes to a title, so they’ll have some unfinished business to take care of in the 2025-26 season.

74

One position Ohio State will have to fill next year is goaltender. Senior netminder Amanda Thiele finishes her Buckeye career with a school record 74 career wins, obliterating the previous program record of 57 wins. Thiele also recorded 20 wins this year, marking the second time she has had 20 wins in a season.

The 2025-26 season is going to have a different feel since Thiele became a fixture between the pipes for the Buckeyes. Even though there were some goalies in college hockey who put up better goals against average numbers and save percentages, it was hard to top Thiele when it came to playing at a high level in big games.

12-4

Imagine what Nadine Muzerall’s record would be if she didn’t have to square off against Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament. Of Muzerall’s four losses in the NCAA Tournament as head coach of the Buckeyes, three of them have come to Wisconsin.

In her ninth year in charge of the program in Columbus, Muzerall has posted a 225-81-22 record. Despite the Badgers being the clear top team in the country this year, Muzerall had her team ready to play on Sunday, and they were just 30 seconds and a questionable call away from winning their second consecutive national championship.

Seeing how Muzerall has turned Ohio State into one of the premier women’s hockey programs in the country is exactly why the athletic department made the smart decision back in May to ink the head coach to a contract extension that will keep her in Columbus through the 2028-29 season.

Despite Ryan Day leading the football team to a national title this year, it’s hard to argue that there isn’t a better coach at Ohio State right now than Muzerall.

Ohio State Spring Practice

It was a quiet month-long offseason for Ohio State, but business is picking up.

The offseason has been fairly quiet for the Ohio State Buckeyes over the last month, but the team has started spring practice, and storylines are sure to surface over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we reconvened to discuss important topics, such as Ohio State players switching jersey numbers. Several Buckeyes will be sporting new numbers this fall, and we now know which number some of the incoming freshman and transfer portal players will wear.

We looked at the Sunday league as well, to find out which former Buckeyes might (or might not) change jersey numbers, but have changed entire jerseys. Several Ohio State products have switched teams, and some are still in the process of finding the next stop on their career path.

Ohio State legend Eddie George is returning to the Buckeye State to coach Bowling Green. The 1995 Heisman Trophy winner is a solid candidate and could be on a bright career path trajectory, as some of the Falcons’ coaches of the past have gone on to bigger and better things.

This may be an Ohio State football podcast, but it’s one that doesn’t miss the opportunity to point out when things go wrong for Michigan. As such, we touch on former Michigan assistant coach Matt Weiss’ 24-count indictment and what it could mean for the Wolverines, especially if any of it ends up tying into the ongoing sign stealing investigation.

Finally, we discuss some big dates on the calendar, including Ohio State’s Pro Day and the Buckeyes’ trip to the White House.

We are in our monthly offseason schedule, but we could have more than one show a month depending on how much news there is. We will return to our weekly schedule in August, as camp opens and we get you ready for the 2025 Ohio State football season.

We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email. Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.

As always, thanks for listening!

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FEB 26 Ohio State at USC

Photo by Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

The Cincinnati-native will look to finish his collegiate career elsewhere after two years in the Scarlet and Gray.

After two years of playing in front of Ohio State fans for his home state school, rising senior forward Evan Mahaffey announced today that he plans on entering the transfer portal, ending his career in Columbus after two seasons. Mahaffey previously played for Penn State for one season before transferring to Ohio State ahead of the 2023-24 season.

NEWS: Ohio State forward Evan Mahaffey (@EvanMahaffey5) is entering the transfer portal, a source told @LeagueRDY.

Mahaffey is a 6-foot-6 forward who began his career at Penn State before spending the last two seasons at Ohio State. Native of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He averaged… pic.twitter.com/dyLEqjPauH

— Sam Kayser - 24/7 High School Hoops (@247HSHoops) March 24, 2025

Mahaffey appeared in all 32 games last season, averaging 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while playing 18 minutes per contest. He started three games this past season after starting 35 games his sophomore year. Mahaffey also tied for the team lead in blocks (28) and was third on the team in offensive rebounds (41).

He scored a season-high 15 points against Valparaiso on Dec. 17, 2024, making it his third double-digit scoring game through Ohio State’s first 11 games. However, he did not reach double-digits for the remainder of the season, averaging 2.6 points per game over the final 21 games of the season.

After Ohio State’s 82-65 win over Iowa on January 27, Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler said that Mahaffey “played big time” and “completely flipped the script” for Ohio State. The junior from Cincinnati scored four points on 2-of-4 shooting and also grabbed five offensive rebounds in a much-needed win for the Buckeyes.

The phrase “a jack of all trades but a master of none” describes Mahaffey well. The 6-foot-6 guard/forward has done most things for Ohio State at some point during his career. He’s guarded Zach Edey against Purdue. He’s brought the ball up for Ohio State when its guard depth was tested. He knocked down a buzzer-beating three against Indiana this season as the shot clock was dwindling.

However, Mahaffey’s role shrunk as the season wore on. His confidence to shoot the ball, even when put in great situations to do so, disappeared by March. His free throw shooting plummeted from 62% last season to 39% this season, making him a liability to leave on the floor late in close games — which is tough, considering half of Ohio State’s games were decided by 10 points or fewer. Mahaffey played fewer than 20 minutes in 11 of Ohio State’s final 14 games.

Mahaffey was the No. 187 recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, ultimately committing to Penn State over Xavier, Cincinnati, West Virginia, and Kansas State. He was the sixth-highest-rated player in Ohio State that year, and the No. 42 small forward in the country. After one season at Penn State, Mahaffey transferred to Ohio State when Micah Shrewsberry left Penn State for Notre Dame.

With Mahaffey’s announcement today, Ohio State now has two open roster spots for the 2025-2026 season. Starting next season, the NCAA is doing away with scholarship limits and enforcing a 15-player roster limit, regardless of scholarship limit.
