Zwick vs. Smith (official thread)

You guys are rough. WOW.
Both guys had their good moments, and not so good moments.
To make any type of judgement off of one game is kind of silly

That's been my point. Especially in the case of Smith. He didn't play enough to make a proper judgement on his ability.
Zwick played very well for a Qb that has sat for two years.

I believe the center exchange is included in the four fumbles-- I actually got the number from CFN. I don't remember four, to tell you the truth. I didn't realize there were that many until I read a few write ups.

You have to admit, the fumbles, ducks, and interceptions make him look bad. I can see why writers are dissing him a bit.

At the same time, from my own viewing of the game, I thought he did well. It was his first start and showed plenty of ability to lead an OSU offense, he just had some weird issues going on at some points. As I call these issues "weird," I don't expect them to continue.

That's just me. . .

Great pics, Max. You may be onto something.

I think a 2nd game is needed to further judge any of the qb's. I'd like to see both players get the same opportunities, not just having TS in there to run. He throws such a great ball, but doesn't run as well as I thought he would.

I think both did a good job and while JZ made mistakes, we still only had three and out the whole game and that was the first drive of the game. Hopefully, he can fix those mistakes before they become a problem.

Overall, a decent game by both considering it was basically their first game.

What impressed me most was Zwicks vision. He seemed to find the open man even when under a little distess. It was nice to see him hang in their instead of tucking and running the ball. He did try to force a couple balls but every QB has one or two he tries to force during the game. Troy Smith had his good drive when the game was already in the bag so the pressure was a little less, but that was one beautiful ball to holmes if you watched it on replay. Time will tell but it looks like Zwick is the real deal.

not to throw fuel on the fire...but for the smith guys...

his first chance went...

play one...roll right...toss right into the chest of a cincy defensive lineman that batted up into the air and we were lucky it wasnt picked

play two....drop back to throw and run....ran left for one or two...

play three...shotgun...ends up running right for nine...

play four 4th and 1...KEY POINT HERE...THE DEFENSE IS CLEARLY BLITZING THE RUN FROM THE BUCKEYES LEFT SIDE....SMITH DOES NOTHING TO CHANGE THE PLAY...ROSS GETS BROUGHT DOWN FOR A LOSS FROM ONE OF THOSE BLITZING BEARCATS FOR A LOSS...

that is the key...smith did not even see the defensive alignment....and that is what was great about zwick....he had complete control of the game...

I am watching the game for the 7th time and anyone who argues for Smith needs a brain transplant......

Well... I tend to think we'd better hope that both of them get better, I have tendency to beleive that we'll need them both over the course of the next 3 seasons.... Anyway... Troy didn't play enought to show me much... and To be honest I'd give Holmes an awful lot of credit for his TD pass...

and Our Boy JZ better learn to take care of the football.. I dont' care if he dinged his thumb, or MAngold's Ass sweated on the ball or what... he needs to take care of the Football.... The one pick probably was just bad execution.. the one he threw into 3 players was dumbass move.

after watching again and again....i will say that Zwick...if he stays healthy....will be a two time all-big ten player...a first team all-american and a top five draft pick in the sunday league...

zwick is special....special....

people...there is a reason jt opened the offense up...he wouldnt do it for krenzel...but he did it already for zwick....

the kids decisions were perfect....thats the key...

but...really...i dare anyone to name a better first start by a buckeye qb in the history of the program....

this kid is going to be fantastic....all-american...period.....

i would bet 50/50 that he is the first pick in the nfl draft when he comes out....thats how confident i am with what i have seen...

best osu qb ever......

I Was Happy

Because it looked like we're determined to spread the ball around more. This offense has the potential to be explosive... something I think we lacked last year. I expected Zwick's mistakes. Every time we break in a new quarterback we get stuff like that. Remember Krenzel's first game... it wasn't the Michigan start, it was the debacle against Illinois when he threw the ball right to a linebacker to seal their win. Lets be happy that we have a team and a schedule that allows our QB's to go through their growing pains for a few games. The one thing I see in common with all the threads is that at some point we're going to be very good at the quarterback position.

ok nation...i will vbet 250 that zwick is at least honorable mention all-big ten this year...

and for another 250...that he will be a top 10 pick in the nfl draft when he comes out....

I had the feeling Zwick has not gotten to the point of saying (in the huddle), "Listen up, god damn it, (gives the play), and this one's gonna go. Let's hit it!"

Or confident similar composture.

When he finally takes charge, as Krenzel did, we will surely see it on the field.

I don't 100% agree (I think he does end up an All-American his senior year, and I think he's a first, but maybe not that high), but your optimism is really refreshing, Di Hard. It's nice to know that I'm not crazy.
