I'll never understand any of this...
As someone from Ohio. If the buckeyes offered me as a 18yr old it'd be over and I don't doubt that for a minute.
So if a kid from Texas wants to stay in Texas than why mess around? What is the purpose?
Unreal.
I'm writing a rule for myself. Don't pay attention to WR, RB, and QB until they've declared for a school. Once they do? Look for 3 star kids in Ohio we may have to offer last minute.
Because you like many fans, look at recruiting like a fan. The elite recruits now, know that this is a business, and with social media they can influence thousands of people with one tweet. 1 tweet saying where they will be, will send an entire fan base into a frenzy, regardless if the team has a shot or not. Evans can say, "OMW to Oregon" and Ducks fans will lose it and get on message boards touting that he may sign with UO. This is a game, and fans are always quick to fall for it and play along, and the kids know it. Social media has been a game changer in that respect, and teenagers are still teenagers, but now adults are trying to get in on the teenagers game, and it makes them look just as childish. I think that they're partly messing around, but some are honestly looking at their best options, and who can blame them? Funny thing is, once these kids sign, and December has come and gone, none of us will remember any of this as long as we get a player that can help the team win. All of the games being played will be long forgotten(no one brings up the utter circus it was to get TP)
Its tough for fans to realize that kids don't always look to sign with the team that rooted for as kids. They believe becasue they would sign with the college of their dreams, the in state kid should too. But most(if not all) of the elite kids are looking at playing on Sundays in the league, and Saturdays is just the stepping stone. I can assure you that Buckeye alum like Zeke, JK Dobbins, James Laurinitis, Pryor, Santonio Holmes, Chris Gamble, and the large number of OOS Buckeye greats didn't grow up dreaming of playing in Columbus, OH for the Buckeyes, but they made business decisions to attend(playing time, life after football, coaching, path to the NFL, etc).
