It happens here, too. Step up!

Since this is my first post, let me establish my bona fides: I was born at the OSU Hospital in 1964, so I?ve been a Buckeye from Day 1. I went to one of those ?other? Big-10 universities, Purdue, to get my Bachelor?s Degree. I?ve been to Big-10 games at Ross-Ade (Purdue), Ohio, Memorial (Illinois & Indiana), and Ryan Field (Northwestern) stadiums.

Before anyone gets up on the high hobby horse, I?ve seen this kind of stuff go on at every single one of those places. Look, if you are in the opposing teams colors and walk up to a sea of white (or black, purple, red, orange, etc.) dressed fans at a Pike house kegger, you?re going to get abuse. Unless, possibly, you can establish yourself as a Pi Kappa Alpha and behave yourself.

I?m not excusing any of this behavior, especially hurling full cans of beer (that?s alcohol abuse and a waste of beer) at opposing fans. However, have you ever watched the treatment that opposing fans get walking down Lane Avenue (or Chittenden or 15th), before or after an Ohio State home game? Anyone from the other team walking by the Pikes on 15th or that place with the balconies on W. Lane is going to get some verbal abuse. If you answer back, and make a point of it, you?re also going to end up getting doused.

I took my dad to the Ohio State-Purdue game back when it was Bellisari vs. Brees. I wore my Purdue gear and sat in a mainly Purdue ticket section. My only transgression was actually cheering at Purdue?s measly 9 points. The Buckeyes scored 35 and a couple of them were pretty sweet; I cheered for them, too. Otherwise, I managed to keep my mouth shut. After the game, a couple of drunks in Scarlet followed us out of the stadium and one of them laid hands on me as we walked up 17th towards High. Luckily, Pops is still pretty quick with the judo and the dude ended up against a building with one hand between his shoulder blades. No further coercion was necessary.

Now, I don?t know what the two characters in Scarlet were up to before this video started. I do know that they made at least one bad choice and probably made another: walking up to a crowd of Whited-Out, beer-drinking, Penn State Pikes while wearing Ohio State gear and then opening their mouths, respectively.

Having said all that, the kid that nailed somebody with a loaded can needs charged with assault. Thinking that something like this only happened once, at Penn State, is na?ve. Outraged, I think not. This is what happens when you mix college kids, alcohol and an ultra-hyped game that starts at 8PM. Remember, it happens here, too. I urge everyone that puffed out their chest and made comments here to have the guts (you could get hurt) to step in and say something when you see an OSU fan get out of hand on someone from Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc.

The fact that it happens every does not excuse the behavior, nor does it deny me the right to be appalled or even outraged. However, the outrage is not exclusively for the offenders in this incident. It is for ALL of the incidents that occur. Do you think those appalled at this incident weren't appalled by some of the reports from Texas fans? Of course they were.

Uh, yeah. Clearly they got what the deserved. :roll1:

And there is no proof that they said or did anything to incur this incident. And you having seen these incidents firsthand should know that no provocation is necessary for something like this to occur.

Ughh....

We...

Are...

Penn State.

Blah.

One of the interesting things that I find on this board is the recounting of experiences that you all have had traveling to different games and encountering different fans and student cultures... now... I've been to my fair share of "Away games" (Never to Happy Valley) but... I can tell you from my first hand knowledge of Penn State Students that I'm not surprised that they are big fat pains in the ass....

Now... this kid is clearly a Neanderthal.... and... everyone has them... and... probably not a representation of PSU in general... but... I guess... I can relate things this way...

Both Wisconsin and Penn State are kind of unpopular football destinations... and... well... think of it this way... they are kind of the perennial bridesmaids... (Wisconsin in particular)... You've got Ohio State... Michigan... then Penn State and Wisconsin... then everyone else. (I only bring this up because the point is that Indiana Football fans might be pricks... but... why bother to have chip on your shoulder... ) And... no disrespect for Iowa or anyone else... I'm just talking over the last 10 years or so...

Now... I've been to Camp Randall... and... it was a bit dicey... nothing intimidating... but... sat in the student section... and you get lewd comments... and... they are "assholes"-- sure... but... the big difference is this...

If you know Penn State People... and... you know Wisconsin people... and... you can party with them after games (In Madison or Columbus or whatever)... the Wisconsin people are really cool and very outgoing... they do have a chip on their shoulder about football... but... are otherwise very fun, nice, cool people... The Penn State People on the other hand are just arrogant cocksuckers... about Everything.

See....

We... Are... Penn State.

What that really means is that they, all their shit, everything they do, and everyone they know is better than you... and... since that's the case... no point in giving anyone else the time of day.

Forget adding schools to the Big Ten... get rid of them.

They don't really want to be here anyway...

Fine with me.

I'm not saying that they got what they deserved and, yeah, no provocation is necessary. I'm just saying that you need to be careful everywhere in the Big-10 when you are not on home turf. Please note that I said they probably opened their mouths.

Video shows violence against Ohio State fans

By Pete Bosak

Penn State played Ohio State at Beaver Stadium Saturday, losing 37-17.

Leonard said police are investigating the incident as a case of disorderly conduct and public drunkeness. However, police have not yet identified the victims, and he said that if they suffered injuries, the charges could escalate.

However, he said police do not need to identify the victims to prosecute people identified as being involved in the incident.

If you would seriously like to meet me, you could send me a message on here or aol instant messenger via the screen name CrazySacc.

So who aside from me would like to "meet" this kid? Perhaps a few of us behind a 7-11 eh? :)

P.S. I messaged him on Myspace asking how many death threats he's received...i'm waiting for an answer.....

Panther Rants

Couple of excerpts:

The YouTube account name of the user who uploaded the video was "crazysacc," which is also the AOL Instant Messenger screen name of Pi Kappa Alpha Vice President Gaetano Sacco (junior-film).

Boy, Succo, not only is it MENSA-level to film the video in the first place, it's even smarter to post it on YouTube thinking it's cool. I've done a lot of dumb shit in my life, but I've gotten away with most of it because I never broadcast it on the interwebs. And really bright posting it with a screenname that was traceable.

"You are the man," said a male voice off-camera. "This dude's from Pittsburgh. He doesn't even need to do it, but he does it."

What the hell does that even mean? Not only am I from Pittsburgh, I'm from McKeesport. I don't recall walking down the street and getting busted with a beer can because I had a blue car and my neighbor was a big fan of black.

Another good blog about the incident, complete with a timeline, pics and the video itself:

Big Ten Tailgate : Booze, Ladies and Football - Don’t Show Up At Penn State Frat Party Wearing OSU Colors

Even PSU fans responding to the entry are ashamed...

This chapter of the Pi Kappa's has been in trouble before.

A fight that hospitalized at least two fraternity members will prohibit two fraternities from having any social activities involving alcohol by putting both on social probation beginning next semester.
Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, 417 E. Prospect Ave., and Kappa Alpha Order, 329 E. Prospect Ave., both had hearings with Interfraternity Council's Board of Control, said Rick Funk, coordinator of greek life.

I wonder how the OSU chapter of the Pikes are taking this.

FWIW, I'm in PA at the moment, and along with the enormous amount of buildup for the game, there were many, many requests to keep things civil. The administration seemed to be doing what they could to prevent incidents like this.

The jackasses will always be there. All it normally takes to slow them down right at the start is a little eye-rolling or a "c'mon, knock it off." Just takes a few people willing to step up and do it. If you're going to be reveling in your group identification one minute (We... Are...), don't say, "eh, those dumbasses are only representing themselves" the next.

So who aside from me would like to "meet" this kid? Perhaps a few of us behind a 7-11 eh? :)
I know you're kidding, but I half expect to be reading about someone doing something along those lines sometime soon. Let's hope not.

i guess promoting the building of a drunken Hooverville in the middle of campus in effigy of an 80 year old man who barely knows if it's a home or away game, about 5 days prior to kickoff was a smart move by the administration to keep behavior in check, especially in light of the 2005 incidents.

I'll take it a step further. If the Penn State administration was serious about doing anything more than paying lip service to prevent a repeat of 2005, they shouldn't have made it a night game. The fact is that they were willing to risk another 2005 in order to give their team a better chance and have another spectacular "white-out" show on national television.

Let Spanier come out and say, "our students can't handle the responsibility of having a night game, so from here on out no more night games and no more white outs--abc be damned. Let him do that, and I'll be impressed.

Hell, we had to become the only school in the Big Ten that doesn't allow drinking at private tailgates because of the actions of some drunken rednecks on Lane Avenue.
