Youngstown St. at tOSU, Sat. 9/9, 12pm EST, BTN

OSU got 3 drives in the 2nd half (not counting the last handoff). If you can't get 3 and outs or turnovers, you have very few opportunities to score. Can't shit on the new clock rules enough. Constant standing around and then commercials fill up the rest of the time.

Glad Brown got reps to see him live. Clear he has talent and could be a good one sooner than later. McCord is the guy, though, and he has the talent to play at a high level. Need him to get all the snaps unless it's a 40 point blowout. Can't afford to switch back and forth.

Frustrating that the D didn't make more of an impact. They played bend don't break defense against FCS. Too many plays with easy yards for YSU and not enough passes batted down or negative plays.

Overall it was a Tressel game. Lower scoring than expected, not much to look at. I do think the offense has all the pieces there. Tre can still be special, McCord can be really good, and I think the OL will be ok eventually. No idea about the defense. Didn't give up points but didn't look dominant.

I wondered throughout the whole game if Tresselball could even do anything with the new rules?

All that the new clock rules do is add leverage to the risk/reward of playing Tressel ball.

You get a lead and eat clock it’s better, you get behind and need to score you are even more screwed.

It was a trip sitting in the stands listening to people around me complain about how bad McCord is on drives when Brown was in the game.
It’s amusing how most fans know very little about their favorite teams. I’ve been to countless dinners with friends watching- insert team X, and how little the fans know about even the starters. I can remember being at a few watch parties and Buckeye fans not knowing anyone besides the QB, and Even then that was debatable. But the one thing everyone agreed upon, is complaining and blaming. Gotta love it

Top 5 positives and negatives

Positives

1. Kyle McCord looked good I thought. Threw some tough throws and he’s the one that makes the offense move. The coaches need to give him all the first team reps next week and go.

2. Defense adjusted well by adding a corner instead of a 3rd safety. Martinez is just a liability vs most WRs and that’s no knock on him. IMO he should be on offense where he’s electric. He’d be dynamic on jet sweeps etc

3. Burke is legit shut down. Challenged multiple times and he was in zero danger of giving up any of them.

4. Styles is largely avoided but when teams do challenge him it’s general a mistake for the offense.

5. I thought Henderson actually played well today and the OL was outstanding with pass pro.

Negatives

1. The overall plan on offense. There’s no urgency, there’s no rhythm, and a pretty noticeable lack of physicality.

I get wanting to work on things which is what lead to 40+ passes but how does this help us prepare for ND? It doesn’t. So it did nothing to establish our brand of football which I’m sure for ND will be balance and setting up play action.

We complain about not having enough possessions and seem to have no intent to press things offensively.

2. Penalties were back breaking today. We had multiple touchdowns called back on penalties and had two drives killed by them too.

3. In what should’ve been our easiest game we were playing Marv and Egbuka during the last minute of the game. What a waste to play our depth.

4. Give Kyle the job and move on. This dual QB stuff is absolutely murdering our productivity and sort of feeds my main issue with our O having no rhythm.

5. I’m ready to state that JT and Jack are fairly average. They’re good players but they are not elite play makers. Where is the pass rush? Our two sacks were Tommy and again a DT. The DEs really have been nonexistent since Chase left.
