Maybe there is a silver lining to all of this... We beat EVERY team by 85 next year, go undefeated, get the #1 recruiting class in 2013, and ALL of those D-line prospects are primed for a title run in 2013.

The carnage laid on our opponents next year will be a thing of which legends are made.

It's over. Bitching about it doesn't do anything. Time to move on.

Yep, that starts with cleaning house with Gene Smith, Doug Archie and creating an entirely different athletic department and compliance structure (if not folded in with the university).

Bunch of Happy Haters today.....

As I pointed out to a guy I know who is a Wisky fan celebrating this because it makes it easier for them to make the championship game next year. Do you really want to be the team that plays in the championship because the the team that really deserves to go got "sent to their room" by the NCAA. This ruling is a bad thing for the Big Ten as a whole, esp when you add in whatever is going to happen at Penn State

tOSU will be in the AP poll next year, but not the Coaches poll, and not in the BCS rankings.

Just like USC this year.

No they won't. USC wasn't in the BCS rankings this year, despite consistently being in the top 25 AP.
Thanks for the info. I obviously didn't pay very close attention to the BCS rankings this year. But even with just an AP #1 ranking, I'd be plenty satisfied with that outcome.

The worst part is you have a 6-6 team going to a bowl that will be coached by a staff that really doesn't want to be there at the expense of next year's team, which won't include the vast majority of the offenders and has the potential to be a BCS year in Urban's first as head coach.

Big miscalculation on OSU's part there. That, to me, is a fireable offense. Back your bags Gene-o.

Again, I don't expect this to affect OSU's 2012 recruiting when it comes to committed kids.

Pack your bags?

Wouldn't even give him the option. My roommate years ago at OSU was fired from a temp job. They cleaned out his desk and shipping him his stuff.

Re: post season ban this year affecting next year's.

Like I said, it's really moot and we'll never really know, but this seems to be the consesnsus from what I'm seeing from people listening to conference call;

Brand Castel:

"Sounds like the bowl ban is punishment for Tressel not telling them in December, which allowed players to play in Sugar Bowl."

I think they were prepared to give out a one year ban and would have accepted a ban for this year and not tacked on one for next year. Postseason bans are the most significant penalties the NCAA can place on one of its member institutions. I think that's why they can't be looked at in the same light with the additional scholly and probation penalties. Those were coming regardless, imo.

Yep. The disasters of the press conferences might have been overlooked if the only year with no bowl was in 2011. I agree that he needs to go.

But I think firing Smith in conjunction with an appeal should be considered.
