What if getting some of these guys back is eventually the difference this season in whether or not this team gets to a bowl game? Let's assume for a moment that this team has some seniors who are actually keeping their noses clean... Don't they deserve to get the most out of their senior season by maybe winning six games and going to a bowl?

Besides, respect doesn't mean dick in college football these days. Coach Tressel was as highly respected as they come, and look how that turned out for everybody. Take care of your program, take care of your players (within the rules, please) and to hell with what you, I, or anybody else thinks.

In a perfect world no one would be adversely affected by the decisions of others. Unfortunately, we all know we don't live in a perfect world. I am sure we all know folks, including ourselves, that have been negatively affected by decisions of others.

Joe Pa is obviously one of the most respected coaches in all of college, even though we all know it as State Penn for all of the criminal activity. As far as I am aware though, there has never been a hint of impropriety with the program. Must be he is doing things within the rules.

So you seem to be saying players at State Penn receive no impermissible benefits.

I heard Eddie George talking about all this on the radio yesterday. I love that guy, he said "You can't run a daycare center AND a football program at the same time". You have to trust that everyone will make good decisions while they are on scholarship and not screw up. You can't monitor every word, thought and dead. You can make everyone accountable and expect they will be the best representatives of this great institution. When they screw up, you pay the price. Tressel had his doghouse and several players found it over that last 10 years. Ask Ray Small what color the walls are in that doghouse - he probably painted them. While I agree that this team has been under the microscope of the NCAA, they have always been scrutinized by the media and the fans. What better reasons to avoid making these little screw ups and stay in the good graces of coaches and others. Posey and Herron should have paid the price by now and yet they made a bad choice. The coaches didn't do that, these players did. Tempted by money and influenced by fame, they learned the hard way. Their punishment wasn't to repaint the walls of the doghouse but rather to rebuild the whole damn thing. One more week and the doghouse will look like the Taj Mahal.

Last thing Eddie George said was brilliant: He said "Go out there this week and run the ball. Then run the ball some more and when you're done running, run some more. Get back to what Ohio State football was defined by - running the football" Or words that effect.

No one defeats the sprirt of a Buckeye!

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. Eddie is a winner and I think more former players like him need to come out and share their concerns with the current state of Ohio State football. We need guys on the team who want to be there, not those who feel like OSU needs them.........

I blame the booster.
I've been known to tip people at the car wash...why the booster couldn't have simply greased the extra money through that process versus the payroll process is beyond me. [censored]ing amateurs.

It was done this way so Bobby D. could claim it as a business expense. He probably also videotaped them getting all wet and soapy washing his trucks.

Interesting read

Thanks to y0yoyoin for linking it in the Troy Smith thread...

Both Smith and Clarett felt that Tressel, the man who recruited them and the architect of the dynasty, had been done wrong. They both still talk to their coach. Clarett spoke to Tressel on Monday night and said he intends to coach again, probably on the pro level.

"I don't believe he was trying to cover anything up," Clarett said. "This man goes into people's homes and understands where (recruits) come from, understand they don't have mothers and fathers. He's responsible for what happens to your sons. That transcends the NCAA, transcends the university. Gene Smith should have gone to him and they should have figured something out. But to act like he was trying to do something bad, that's wrong. He actually cared about the people. I believe Gene Smith knows the truth. And I can pretty much leave it at that."
