Certainly the enabling of TP created an attitude that some things would be tolerated.
It's only a few kids who take advantage of their celebrate status as OSU players. 5 to 8 kids out of 105.
It is going on all over because kids will be kids and you can't watch them 24-7.
We have been targeted because we are one of the biggest programs in all of college football. And ESPiN does have a reason and agenda. To think otherwise would be ignoring the obvious. (Colin Coward admitted as much.)
We will survive this and return to glory! I am certain of it!

A big problem for the NCAA with how this has been handled from a PR perspective is that "2C" starts to look a whole lot more appealing for schools.

Auburn's stonewall has made the bad press men go away; no more questions are being asked publicly about Miami once they threw a couple of suspensions out to keep the braying media masses at bay, yet Ohio State keeps getting dragged out for a new public flogging every few weeks as the AD reveals the results of what's looking like pretty extensive self-investigating.

I don't know what the answer is, but no AD in his right mind wants to go through what's been honestly worse than USC's PR over Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo over a few lousy tattoos, some gas money and timesheet padding.

The sport is too popular and too public, and the institutions too vast and important for them to want to deal with this kind of spotlight over ticky-tack stuff. So you either perfect turning a blind eye, or you go full retard and turn your compliance staff into a full-time investigative division on all of your revenue sports.

The PR cost is now far, far worse than anything the NCAA has in it's arsenal.

Is now the time to re-bring up the Chicken nugget scandal? :)

I am glad I didn't hear or see anything about the latest development until earlier today. (under a rock)
After reading the last 200 or so pages, I vented vicariously through all of the rantings and ravings and excellent comments posted already. Summary: It sucks. Oh well. Maybe next year.

I can't believe we're in the middle of the football season with one of the biggest games of the year with a historic opponent and this freaking thread is still front and center.

Un[censored]ingbelievable.
It's Ty Willingham's fault.

If I felt like I could do a better job than anyone currently running to be in that position, then I would attempt. But since I know I'd be in way over my head, I wouldn't try and I don't go around telling a professional how to do their job.

It seems as if the people who are calling for a total "house cleaning" have the solution to all the recent woes, so why wouldn't they apply for the position once they inevitably come available? I love the university just as much as the next guy, but let's be honest, only a select few in the country can handle these positions. And I highly doubt they post on a message board.

Not suggesting that you or anyone here is capable of _doing_ their job but there are enough here who are capable of recognizing that those doing their jobs are doing them in a sub-par manner and that in all likelihood there is a pretty damn good chance that they could be replaced with someone who sure as heck could do a fine job with the talent on this team.

Sometimes the answer is not a matter of personally being able to do a better job than someone... It's just knowing when to find someone to do the better job. It's called management.

I still need to take that ish. Was told it's ridiculously easy and very interesting.

If it is still anything like it was when I took it uh.. long time ago, watch out for the multiple guess questions on tests.. Pick the best answer. Zeus is:
1. A God
2. A Greek God
3. Your Mom
4. Special Teams Coach for the Browns
5. 1 and 3 but not 2
6. 3 and 4, but only on Sundays
7. None of the above
8. All of the above

I would always second guess.

I'll go with #3, but with an alternate spelling.

except that he broke the rule to protect his players. That makes them mutually inclusive.

When did I ever say it was the job of the coach to "protect" players?

I said that that it is the job of the coach to "take care" of the team and players. I am using "take care" in the stewardship sense, not the criminal euphemistic sense.
