Apparently, with benefits. :shake:

I do get the "with friends like these..." thing. When our troubles with the NCAA in the 80s were on-going, the Gainesville Sun acted like it wanted a Pulitzer by investigating every little detail of our troubles and making it Front Page Bold Type news. Every f-ing day it seemed like. For about five years. We had a TON of details to disclose, unfortunately. So I guess I just expect it from a paper.

Act like real journalists? Real journalists don't care if the person or company they are investigating will have some bad consequences from an investigation, so long as the news released is true. You don't sit on a story about a politician because belongs to the same political party as you. You don't stifle a story about - say - financial wrong doing at a church - because the Minister is your denomination. And you don't sit on a HUGE story in college sports because it is embarrassing to your local football program.

I can see this point; however, not EVERYTHING is news. I realize it's my own subjective opinion, but some of this stuff is as mundane as possible, but they're trying to sell it to me like it's cocaine and not flour.

Whether it is wise from a subscription/access to interviews standpoint is a different matter. And an FOI request is about the least speculative type of story you can run. It is all just fact based stuff. More "truthy" than stories speculating about things.

Must be a slow season for real news in C-bus.

At this point, the Dispatch is justy trying to save face. I mean, if these violations were so obvious, then how in the hell did they take place right under their nose without them investigating or researching it? (and yes, I realize the same goes for OSU)

I realize that it's just outside my grasp, but I've got to ask: what is the Dispatch's schtick on this? Are you attempting to ruin the relationship with tOSU so badly that they're given dick to play with? I just don't understand what they're trying to do here.

Sunday's "Inside Story" column, a weekly behind-the-scenes with Dispatch editor Marrison:

Tressel story shows why 'Dispatch' is so trusted

The Dispatch employs a skilled group of reporters. Their experience and professionalism puts us in position to break important news because sources trust us.

 Wow, just when you think they can't sink any lower.

Their propaganda really seems to be taking hold

so glad you have a man crush on yourself.
Reading this article is like listening to Jesse Jackson or John Edwards etc.

My grandfather told me that if a person has to go around and tell everybody how good they are..they probably aren't!!!

That philosophy certainly applies to you and the Dispatch Mr. Morrison.
Really? You put an article on the front page about how trustworthy you say you are? And it's not even written by an outsider?

If I wanted Fox News I'd turn on the TV
Ben -- did you write the cheesy headline yourself?

So is this your response to the biting comments the SI reporter has been making about your paper in ESPN radio interviews? SI says all this info was waiting to be collected and written -- but that in a one-newspaper town The Big D sports staff was too busy texting and chatting with OSU sources to get to the meat of the story.

Also, Ben, could this be your corporate cover? Your sister company, WBNS radio, fired the talk show host who dared to call the March press conference the sham it was. Apparently the university brass threatened to pull the broadcast rights to games, and Dispatch broadcast arm fired the messenger.

Ben -- look at your falling circulation, especially among younger readers. Your pompous attitude really turns off subscribers. And makes you a laughing stock -- I hope you really read these forums.

Marrison is clueless. Don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back... for basically doing nothing.
How do you pat yourself on the back when SI scoops you in your own town, particularly when similar allegations were made 9 years ago with Clarett?

Muffler, I know everyone will hurl when he sees yet another Ubet post on this, but

This
The NCAA has asked OSU to fully describe the relationship between Pryor and Sarniak. The matter is part of what the NCAA will review in August.
Makes this all very, very News-worthy.
After Tressel received an April 2, 2010, email from a former player warning him of potential NCAA violations, the coach exchanged 77 calls and text messages with and spent a total of 4 1/2 hours talking on the phone with Ted Sarniak, the hometown mentor of quarterback Terrelle Pryor in Jeannette, Pa.
OSU said Sarniak served as a contact during recruiting and is not a booster. He has attended nearly every game since Pryor enrolled at OSU in 2008.
The GREAT news, however, is

Despite the redactions, this much is known from the records: There are no apparent phone calls between Smith's cell or office phones and either Sarniak or Cicero. Also over the past year, Smith communicated with Pryor twice on March 18. They exchanged one text message each one day after Tressel volunteered to increase his suspension from two to five games.
And this is just odd. That is usually family night for most people. 31 freaking texts on Christmas Eve????????

Records show that Tressel exchanged 31 text messages with Cicero on Christmas Eve. They represent the only known contacts between the two in emails and phone records after they exchanged numerous emails in April and in June 2010.
31?

:so:
I especially like the part about how they completely fucked up the Thad Gibson $0.00 car deal owing to failure to do even the most cursory of follow ups.

Oh... wait... I'm sorry... that bit didn't make it into the piece.

I apologize.

I don't know if it has any relevance, but I believe that this was the day when the Chicago blogger began that rumor that Tress resigned.
