Report: Players traded, sold 36 items

Ohio State football players are alleged to have improperly traded dozens of items to the owner of a tattoo parlor, receiving tattoos, $14,000 and in one case a sport-utility vehicle, according to a newspaper report.

The report by The Columbus Dispatch says it obtained a letter Thursday that was sent from the U.S. Department of Justice to Ohio State officials in December. The document lists 36 items that players are said to have sold to Eddie Rife or traded for tattoos since 2008.

The newspaper reports that investigators say one player received a 2003 Chevy Tahoe, purchased by Rife for $3,500, in exchange for a watch and passes to the 2010 Rose Bowl.

Ughhh....:(

Well you can see these kids obviously don't know much...I mean, anyone who would trade a perfectly good watch for a Chevy Tahoe clearly needs a course in negotiating.

I also think that this might show who "Player G" (now a former player) was- someone who was supposed to have given a Rose Bowl Ring, but could only give tickets to the game in exchange for the Tahoe.

That's a absolute lie for a headline. The DOJ letter, which was disclosed to the NCAA, is a catalog of items seized from Rife. Amongst the items are his wife's rings (received from his f'n grandmother), jerseys he bought on eBay, a watch he bought on ebay, a host of replica helments bought on eBay and so on.

I haven't a clue how they get to $14K. The only way they can get there is by adding the total of all the items (both bought on eBay and paid to players). Problem is, that $7K of that is for TJ Downings national championship ring -- which was bought on eBay!

[sarcasm]A pair of gold pants probably counts as two 'items'.[/sarcasm]

I suppose they counted outright "gifts" -- ie, 2009 Rose Bowl plaque -- "gift". I'm not sure if a player is allowed to give away his stuff or not.

They would have had also had to count individual glove -- something like 14 total gloves -- some signed; some not.

Bottom line: it's nothing new to the NCAA.

In case we are stripped of our wins in 2010, what will happen to the scUM game? Will the records show that scUM won THE GAME and award them with a win in the overall win-loss records?

And what will happen to the five games that JT is suspended for? Will the records show the win-loss as JT's record or the assistant coach (who is substituting for JT)'s record?
