Fair enough Kyle - Probably bad form on my part posting that but a couple google searches and a little digging on this board will help you see my point of view. End of the day, my opinion is I would want my kids to have better role models then Troy and it has zero to do with his couple young mistakes he got in trouble for in Columbus. Kthx

The problem we have at play here is a grown man who has actively cultivated an image of being perfect, or at very least holier than thou.
15 yards for unsupported hyperbole.

Jim Tressel has NEVER, to my knowledge, "cultivated" any concept that he is perfect, nor have I ever heard him depreciate others by suggesting he's more morally pure than they are.

It's improper IMO to tar Tressel with this brush, just as it was improper to tar Tim Tebow with it. Nothing wrong with being virtuous, and if you feel threatened by the visibly virtuous (especially when they make no claims to be better than anyone else), that's your own problem.

Never read them and never will. One has to assume a stance of superior knowledge to teach a subject.
The suggestion that one can be a valid critic of a book one has never read, and that one can draw valid conclusions about the character of its author based on one's preconceptions of what it contains, is so absurd as to beggar belief.

I've respected your posts and opinions in the past, Jax, even when I disagreed. But this whole thread of thought doesn't pass logical muster with me. I think you're allowing your profound disappointment with Coach Tressel (and you're certainly entitled to that) to cloud your thinking in a big way.

My profound disappointment is not with Tressel so much (I am naturally suspicious of the overtly pious/virtuous) as the large percentage of OSU fans who seem to be saying "You can have my idealized image of Tressel when you pry it from my cold dead fingers". Some of the defenses of him I've seen border on all in rope holding.

As for the public image deal, if you don't think Tressel has worked very hard at it then we are never going to come close to being in agreement about the guy. The books, well you don't have to read every one in the genre before you have a pretty good idea of the subject matter.

Don't kid yourself. Your "profound disappointment" is and has been with the way JT runs his offense. Don't act for a second as if that isn't comin' thru in your opinion...at least as much as anyone wanting to believe in the Easter Bunny.

From what I remember, most of his teammates on the Ravens spoke very highly of him as a person and a leader. So come with more evidence than "around the league" before you talk [Mark May] about Troy. Kthx

Yep, and so did his 49ers teammates. He's a bit of a hot head but he's a guy you would want in the trenches with you when shit gets real.

Kyle, I'm not trying to pick a fight, but were you not profoundly disappointed?

I support Coach Tressel and I still would rather have no one else as coach, but I was truly disappointed. According to the facts presented to the public and his own words, he made a huge mistake. He often insists (and I agree) that integrity is the first priority, and he made a calculated error in judgment that violates what he stands for and what tOSU stands for.

When Coach Hayes made his "mistake," he got the death penalty; and, his mistake was an impulsive "crime of passion." Coach Tressel's mistake was premeditated and a major violation; and, the consequences (so far) for JT and the program are much less severe.

Don't get me wrong, I support Coach Tressel. He's human. We all make mistakes. But let's not rationalize what he did as no big deal.
