If the entire circle (4 red lights) were on then you'll be ok. The 3 red lights probably aren't a good sight.

I've noticed this being more of a problem with the early models... haven't had a single problem with mine, which features the newer hardware. Just get it from Costco and get it replaced same hour if it breaks down.The 360 has too many headaches with hardware failure and games freezing with a disc error in the middle of playing.
