I don't feel the need to qualify his improved performance today by pointing out it was against a bad defense.

Pointing it out because people hate the comments that point out his flaws but it is a little silly to all of the sudden say he silenced the critics... who is asking for Joe now comments.

Pryor has looked good vs Toledo and Indiana and 'Sota so I think pointing it out has merit.

He looked a lot better in his mechanics and decision-making today, and I think it was his best game of the year

Agreed, that is the single best thing I saw today from his as well!

Who said that he silenced the critics?

And he didn't look all that good against Toledo or Indiana. He made a lot of the same mistakes against them that he made against Purdue. Don't look at the opponent - that doesn't matter at this point. Look a what Pryor actually did. He cut down on a lot of those mistakes this week. It wasn't anywhere near the same performance as he had against Toledo & Indiana. There's no comparison. If the Buckeyes had won in spite of Pryor not running when he had open lanes, screwing up the option, trying to squeeze passes into triple coverage and throwing up ducks when he's being taken down, then I'd agree with you.

The things that Pryor improved upon are the kinds of things that translate into successful performances against better teams. IMO that's the reason why it doesn't matter who he was playing against today, and why we shouldn't think of what he did as dubious. He's not all the way there yet, but he showed the improvement we were all asking for.

Here is the other thing... if he missed (on all but like 2-3 throws) he missed where his guy was gonna get it on no one. He told Tress that the pic was a bad decision... but I think it was just late. He missed Posey on the post the first series... similar to the end of the Purdue game.. it would have went for 40+ from my view in C deck. He was making the right reads... that is huge. Was late or early on a few and underthrew 1-2 but other than that...Great Day. Needs another solid game this week and then we'll see what he has learned in the last 3 games. Line look good even with bangs...which always will help TP.(wish those 2 other TD catches woulda happened.. and that holding call on Posey was terrible.(another run TD)

I'm just encouraged that his eyes were scanning the field. IMO there is no better teacher than game situations when it comes to reading a defense. Pretty soon it will become second nature for him...when that happens we will have created a monster.

I agree... and if the run game continues..defenses won't know what the heck to do.

Pryor learns from Purdue mistakes

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? After a week of criticism and second-guessing, Terrelle Pryor felt as if a cool, fresh breeze had blown out all the things that troubled him.

Pryor passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, accounting for 343 yards of total offense in No. 18 Ohio State's 38-7 victory over Minnesota on Saturday.

The numbers ? and the result ? were in stark contrast to what happened seven days earlier. In a shocking 26-18 loss at Purdue, Pryor had looked confused, petulant and unnerved. He threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball away two times.

An onslaught of vicious reviews followed, from media, Ohio State fans and from other observers.

Pryor said he learned from that firestorm that he can't do everything.

"I used the resources I had ? I used the offensive line and I used my receivers," said Pryor, frequently criticized for trying to do too much by himself. "It meant a lot to me that my teammates supported me all week."

It wasn't just teammates who supported him.

"(I'm) trying to mentor him and get him through 'life in the spotlight,' which I've been through," Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James said of his relationship with Pryor, whom he's been trading text messages and phone calls with for the past few months.

James' teammate, Shaquille O'Neal, even chimed in.

"I saw that they're getting on (Pryor) the last two games," O'Neal said after a Wednesday night preseason game in Columbus. "Keep you head up, young man, and try to get this football team back on track."

Then before Saturday's game, Pryor spoke with former Ohio State quarterback and 2006 Heisman Trophy winner, Troy Smith.

"I talked to Troy this morning and had a good quarterback-to-quarterback talk," Pryor said. "It helped me."

With his 104 yards rushing, Pryor became the fifth Ohio State QB to top 1,000 career yards on the ground, joining Cornelius Greene (2,066 from 1972-75), Rex Kern (1,714 from 1968-70), Art Schlichter (1,303 from 1978-81) and Troy Smith (1,168 from 2003-6). Pryor now has 1,102 yards

I doubt that he's silenced the critics, but today was certainly a step in the right direction.

What was impressive to me was how he recovered from the two moments of adversity (being booed after the first drive, and throwing the INT) and followed them with several good passes. He also looked smarter scrambling today. And he looked excellent everytime he was put under center, I'd like to see more of that in the future.

He still has work to do with deep balls, hopefully he continues to improve in that department.

The crow post, the fans on the radio, the national shows etc

And a lot of the same mistakes today. But I think we bot agree he made some better decisions today.

Agreed, but this is the reason I qualified my statement. Can this be maintained when there is a defense that can get pressure on him and take away more of the field then 'Sota can. I disagree the he did not play well vs Indiana and Toledo. I think he does great when there is little pressure on him and he has shown that.

I think we both agree if he can maintain and keep improving on his decision making the strides and progress we all want for him will begin to happen.

He had help today...IMO that was the biggest difference from what we have seen. The line play relatively well today which allowed him some time and allowed us to run the ball, especially in the second half. The coaches helped by providing a more balanced attack.... working under center was more successful for us earlier in the year than what we have seen the last several weeks with the shotgun. We did a lot more of that today and I thought TP played very well out of those sets today, especially the play-action.
There were several balls to Posey that easily could have been caught which would have given him monster numbers for today. If he continues to get help and other guys step up and make plays his confidence and the overall confidence of the offense will take off. At some point down the road he may be able to take the whole offense on his shoulders but he's not ready right now. Today was a good day and hopefully the start of better things for the O.
