WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

There are definitely times when he is not running at top speed, but I think he's doing it to set up a lane. Usually when he begins a run, he has one unblocked defender he has to beat. What he does is forces the defender to commit to a direction, and then takes off the other way. He covers so much ground with two strides that no one can recover from a misstep. Sometimes, if he has the first defender beat, he will put a hesitation move on a second man in the same way. When he's one on one, it works great, but what he needs to learn is if the D has an umbrella contain, he needs to cut upfield immediately. That's the situation where he takes sacks the most. If he heads north, he at least has a chance to break a tackle, or at least get some positive yards. He knows he's the best pure athlete on the field, and wants to make the Tecmo Bowl play on every down, but in time he'll learn that you just take what's available, and eventually, you'll break a big one. Really, I think the only time I've seen him go at full speed was his first run against MSU, and I still think he's got another gear. He's going to be a joy to watch for the next 2-1/2 years. Maybe the best true freshman in CFB since Herschel Walker.

You nailed it! That's exactly what I was talking about....We have seen that "gear" before. I'll have to do some YouTube searches, but I want to say it was Minnesota that he took off and after the play was done even though it only went for like 5-8 yards it made me say "Holly crap that kids fast"...which with that long stride he doesn't look as fast as he is, but on that play he LOOKED fast as hell.I can remember the play, but I can't remember the game - I hope I can find it.

His burst on the 32 yard run to open the game against MSU was amzing. A guy who had a great angle on him had to shoestring tackle him.

When he turns it on, the kid has great top end speed.

I hope we see him take off more. He'll be a good passing QB in time but against a PSU defense that attacks the QB, he could really exploit them for some big gains with his legs. This Saturday would be a great time for his first 100 yard game.

He just needs to learn how to slide or at least lower his pads when defensive player is coming in to hit him. That sort of slight crouching thing he does scares the crap out of me.

I will agree with the slide idea, but the crouch is not so bad either as far as protecting his knees since he is so tall. The thing about lowering his pads that scares me would be injuring a throwing shoulder.

You don't see the top gear that often, I think because he has a great awareness of exactly what he has to do to beat his man. He can get the corner almost anytime he wants. I have noticed that he puts on the afterburners when he gets near the goal line. His first career TD vs. YSU, and the winner vs. Wisky, he smelled the endzone, and took off. His speed is deceptive. His stride is so natural and efficient. Reminds me a bit of Ginn. TP's not as fast, but defenders underestimate the angle the same way. I'm rewatching the MSU game for the 5-6th time, and it just gets better every time. Pryor was a monumental pick up for OSU, but it may have been an even bigger gain for TP. The second he learns how to set his feet on passes, he will be the best QB in CFB.

they did a thing on gameday about why defenders can't tackle TP. the main reason was his strides. he can cover 5 yds in literally 2 steps, so defenders are thrown off by this and take bad angles. it was pretty interesting to watch.

I'm getting drunk and watching the MSU game, so I may be talking straight bullshit, but, from what I've seen from TP in the first two months of his collegiate career, we may be witnessing uncharted waters, as far as CFB is concerned. Michael Vick and Vince Young were not that far beyond where TP is right now. After seeing the progression that Troy Smith made at OSU, my brain can't comprehend how good TP might be in two years. Like I said, once he learns how to set his feet, sky's the limit. He may not ever get to the level of passing of, say, a Sam Bradford (or he might), but his athleticism is just crazy good. Just when you thought it was the best time in history to be a Buckeye fan, it just got better. Here's to a breakout game vs. State Penn!:oh:

Rivals has Pryor as the 24th best QB in the country....As of now(After only 5 starts)!!! The kid is scary good - I had high expectations of him coming in and even I have been blown away by how good he's played thus far....As for Ginn - I can't compare anyone to that speed. He was simply the fastest kid I have ever seen in pads. Nobody could show you a foot, take it away and be off in the other direction like Teddy could...He was like the kid that you played Highschool football with that was 5 times faster than anything else on the field and made everyone else look retardedly slow. I don't care what the stop watch says - Galloway is the 2nd fastest man to wear Scarlet and Gray

that pass to hartline was pretty ugly fundamentally, but he still got the TD. like you say, once he learns to set his feet and put the ball where it needs to be he will be rediculous.

any qb's out there that can answer a question. is throwing a good deep ball something you can learn or are you born with it? it seems to me that it takes a lot of touch and instinct that you may not be able to learn.

Hard to set your feet with a defender right in your face.

Considering where Vick and Young were as redshirt freshmen it's amazing what he's doing. I thought Young was the black Matt Jones until his Redshirt Junior year. RS Junior Vince Young is Bo Jackson Tecmo Super Bowl good. However I think TP is going to eclipse him.

Agree. He basically threw that ball off of his back foot, which in itself is impressive. The FB got blown up on that play I believe.

But I agree, once TP can get the fundamentals down, watch more film and gain experience, he will become a much better passer and game manager thus becoming a much better player. One of the keys is that Pryor is already avoiding INTs, although we'll have to wait and see at the end of the season how good his TD/INT ratio is.

That's what I'm sayin! TP has that Young style of running, and he could be a Vick, but he's already looking pass first. Troy didn't get that until halfway thru his junior year. The thing that kind of bugged me about Troy's senior year is that he committed to the pass too much. There were many times where he wanted to keep the pass alive, but if the run's there, fucking run! 8 yards is 8 yards. Just get positive yards. TP can get yards like fuckin gangbusters with his feet, but he already wants to be a passer, which I love, but take the yards they give you! Eric Crouch won the Heisman, but no NFL team considered him as a QB. Troy became a pocket QB, and won the Heisman, but there were many times that he could have run for positive yards. I hope that TP finds the middle ground, and just fucking dominates. He's so fucking good.

TP is a great runner but I wouldn't put him on Vick or Young's level. Those two could juke just about anyone out of their shoes. Right now, Pryor either runs over you or runs by you.

Vick against an excellent FSU defense.
