WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Staying in the mid 230's will be good enough to absorb hits but allow him to keep his elite speed.

He just needs to learn how to slide or at least lower his pads when defensive player is coming in to hit him. That sort of slight crouching thing he does scares the crap out of me.

Has Pryor always relied on a stiff arm, or is Beanie rubbing off on him? I was just watching the highlight vid from MSU and he had a decent stiff arm on his TD run, but he had a rediculous stiff arm with 9:15 left in the 4th quarter.
he's always had a mean stiff-arm. i saw him do it high school all the time when i went to a few of his jeanette games.

The only knock I have on Pryor running the ball is that he sometimes appears slow down from time to time.

Example:

His stiff arm on Weaver had me speechless, but it looked like he put him on the ground and watched him fall before trying to get up field again (almost as if he was leaned over to say something - which I know he didn't...).

I know I am being picky, but I wish he would have dropped the hammer and kept his progress up field.

I still don't think we have seen Pryor use his speed either.... There was a play earlier in the year (May have been an option against Minnesota?..) where he looked like he put himself in another gear that we haven't seen since.

I can't believe how Pryors Highschool Highlight film transferred to the next level. With as good as he was in Highschool (He looked like a man amoung boys)... Yet it still looks like that! It's freaking crazy how good this kid is!

I think that had more to do with the angle the DB took and the fact that TP completely threw him down to the floor required him to stop and restart, because it would be pretty impossible to do that hardcore of a stiff arm and not lose any time/speed in the process.

I stand corrected on this example. After further review it looks like there was good reason why he couldn't turn it up field, but this isn't the first time I have thought this - I can't come up with anymore examples (Though one of his earlier TD runs he slowed up at the five and almost got tagged at the goal line because of it)... I'm not putting down the kid at all and he is quickly running up my chart of All Time favorite Buckeyes... How much crap do you think Weaver got in this weeks film room? The kid ate Pryors palm, not once, but TWICE on Saturday - I heard he's filing Abuse charges on Pryor....

I understand what you mean. I think he runs in a somewhat hesitant manner because he's looking for blocks and trying to hit a home run. When he sees a seem though he absolutely explodes. I agree he hit a super gear that we will see him use more often as he becomes less hesitant and more natural in everyhting he does.

Also, he tends to be hesitant on whether to run or pass to the point that he basically comes to a halt and gthen when he runs he has to dodge people in front of him.

I know he's a long strider, but I don't think it's his stride. It's stupid anyway..the kid makes plays, my opinion of this or that means nothing! As long as he keeps doing what hes doing - what defference does it make?

The long stride reminds me of Robert Smith (dare I say it) but he's much more powerful and certainly appears to love the game more.

We're on the cusp of great things with TP, it'll come in time.

There are definitely times when he is not running at top speed, but I think he's doing it to set up a lane. Usually when he begins a run, he has one unblocked defender he has to beat. What he does is forces the defender to commit to a direction, and then takes off the other way. He covers so much ground with two strides that no one can recover from a misstep. Sometimes, if he has the first defender beat, he will put a hesitation move on a second man in the same way. When he's one on one, it works great, but what he needs to learn is if the D has an umbrella contain, he needs to cut upfield immediately. That's the situation where he takes sacks the most. If he heads north, he at least has a chance to break a tackle, or at least get some positive yards. He knows he's the best pure athlete on the field, and wants to make the Tecmo Bowl play on every down, but in time he'll learn that you just take what's available, and eventually, you'll break a big one. Really, I think the only time I've seen him go at full speed was his first run against MSU, and I still think he's got another gear. He's going to be a joy to watch for the next 2-1/2 years. Maybe the best true freshman in CFB since Herschel Walker.
