Pryor leaning toward Ohio State

Top recruit will likely pick Buckeyes over Michigan

By Jack McCallum, SI.com
One of the most eagerly-anticipated high-school football recruiting battles in years will likely end on Wednesday at noon in the Jeannette (Pa.) High gymnasium. That's where Terrelle Pryor, an all-purpose, all-state quarterback is "80-90 percent sure" he will announce his college decision at a nationally televised news conference. Pryor had considered delaying his decision until after Signing Day, but has apparently changed his mind.

Sources believe that Pryor is leaning toward Ohio State, which had been the early favorite of the western Pennsylvania star with 4.4 speed. But there has also been much speculation that Pryor, whose 8,499 career yards were almost equally divided between passing and running, would choose Michigan and the spread-offense philosophy of new coach Rich Rodriguez.

REPORT: Terrelle Pryor will make decison public on Wednesday

February 4, 2008
FREE PRESS STAFF REPORTS
Highly-ranked high school quarterback Terrelle Pryor will follow the original plan and announce what college he'll attend in the fall, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
Pryor's principal and guidance counselor said the press conference is scheduled for 12 p.m. Wednesday at his school, Jeannette (Pa.) High.

It was rumored that Pryor was considering to delay his announcement to make visits to the University of Oregon and/or Penn State, but that is now not the case, according to the newspaper.

The announcement can be seen live on ESPNU.

Michigan and Ohio State are thought to be the two finalists.

Pryor is NOT coming to Oregon

by John Hunt Monday February 04, 2008, 12:14 PM

It's as final and as authoritative as any other statement surrounding the Ducks' courtship of Terrelle Pryor. He told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he is crossing Oregon off his list.
"I have to call them today and tell them," Pryor told the paper.
That means Pryor will decide between Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.
And the Ducks won't have quite the logjam at quarterback after their national recruiting efforts.

With college football's February 6th National Signing fast approaching, the outcome will no doubt send shockwaves throughout the country.

OSU FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Ohio State Buckeyes football waiting on top recruit Terrelle Pryor's Wednesday decision

Tuesday, February 05, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Wednesday is National Signing Day, and Ohio State may or may not know whether Terrelle Pryor will be a Buckeye by the time coach Jim Tressel holds a news conference at 4 p.m.
Does the confusion sound familiar?
Ohio State did add one player Monday, with an oral commitment from Georgia defensive end Keith Wells reported by numerous recruiting services. But there were conflicting reports from Pryor's world, with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporting that Pryor was eliminating Oregon from consideration and was "80 to 90 percent sure" he'd announce his decision on Wednesday. But Rivals.com reported that nothing had changed with Pryor and that he was still 50-50 on an announcement, with the Ducks still in the mix.

Pryor's decision could come Wednesday

By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor made an announcement Monday, but it's not the one many people are eagerly awaiting. Pryor said he's about 80 percent sure he'll sign a letter of intent Wednesday, the first day high school football recruits can make their choices official.
"I have to talk to my dad (Craig)," Pryor said. "This isn't an easy decision. Despite what you read, I haven't eliminated anyone yet."
Pryor was expected to make visits to Oregon and Penn State before he decided, but he has no plans to visit the two campuses this week. He said he has not eliminated Oregon.

OSU-MICHIGAN RIVALRY MAY BE ON LINE FOR PRYOR

ANN ARBOR, Mich. Terrelle Pryor lives in a small town near Pittsburgh, insulated from the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.

The highly touted quarterback is about to make a decision, though, that might end up making him a pivotal player in one of the marquee matchups in sports.

Pryor is expected to announce Wednesday where he will play football next fall and many will be surprised if he doesn't choose to play for the Buckeyes or the Wolverines.

"He has no idea what the rivalry is about and how much he has added to the intensity of it," said Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch, a family friend and recruiting adviser. "I know all about it after playing at Eastern Michigan and for the Lions, so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out if he chooses Ohio State or Michigan."

The Jeannette High School star might stay closer to home to play for Joe Paterno at Penn State. Or, he could possibly stun everyone tuning in to hear what he says on national TV by picking Oregon, LSU or Florida. Or he could take some extra time to make up his mind. Wednesday is only the first day of the signing period. While most top players ink a scholarship that day, they're not obligated to do so.

"He's still unsure what he is going to do at this point," Batch said Monday night.

BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : Ohio State football: Signing day might not be signature day

Tuesday, February 5, 2008 3:10 AM
By Tim May

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

While Ohio State picked up defensive end Keith Wells as the 18th commitment to its 2008 recruiting class yesterday, the Buckeyes -- the college football world, for that matter -- are waiting to see whether Terrelle Pryor pulls the trigger on Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported yesterday that Pryor, the dual-threat quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., who is the nation's top recruit, said he is "80 to 90 percent sure" he will make his pick at a nationally televised news conference at his school at noon Wednesday, the first day national letters of intent can be signed. The story asserted it likely will come down to a choice of Ohio State or Michigan.

Elite QBs' history makes Pryor an even greater target
Posted: February 5, 2008

He hasn't taken a snap in the college game and Terrelle Pryor already is saving programs.

He is the remedy for Ohio State's championship game meltdowns, the critical piece for coach Rich Rodriguez's culture change at Michigan and the player who can take Oregon where Dennis Dixon could have -- had he only stayed healthy.

Forget about the big bust theory when it comes to high school quarterbacks.

More times than not, the elite each year become the stars of the future.

6-6 high school quarterback has college coaches on hold
By Jim Halley USA TOAY

The Terrelle Pryor sweepstakes, previously known as National Signing Day, may come to a breathless end Wednesday.
Pryor, a 6-6 quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., and USA TODAY's Offensive Player of the Year, is expected to sign Wednesday at noon with Ohio State or Michigan. But then again, he may wait.

"I should have a talk for other high school coaches that's called 'The Circus,' " Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz says. "As of (Tuesday), he's supposed to sign, but who knows tomorrow?"

Pryor unaware he has fueled Michigan-OSU rivalry
The Detroit News
If Terrelle Pryor goes to Michigan or Ohio State, he will learn about the fierce rivalry between the schools.

Right now, he has no clue.

"He has no idea what the rivalry is about and how much he has added to the intensity of it," Charlie Batch, who has served as a mentor to Pryor during the recruiting process, told the Columbus Dispatch.

Pryor, a quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., is considered the No. 1 recruit in the country. He is expected to announce his college choice at noon on Wednesday. The three finalists appear to be Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.

Pryor would face less pressure at Ohio State
Tom Markowski / The Detroit News

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., linebacker/defensive end Nick Perry of Detroit King and running back Mark Ingram of Flint Southwestern are the three biggest uncommitted recruits involving Michigan and Michigan State. Ingram planned to announce his choice Tuesday at 3 p.m.; Pryor and Perry said they would name their schools Wednesday.

Veteran Detroit News high schools reporter Tom Markowski predicts where each player will go:

Pryor: I look for Pryor to go to Ohio State. There will be less pressure on him at OSU. It's not necessary for him to come in and immediately perform at a high level. The Buckeyes, who have reached the national title game the past two seasons, will again have one of the top teams in the country. Todd Boeckman will be back at quarterback for his senior year, so there's no hurry to push Pryor into the starting lineup. If he goes to U-M, it will be because he wants to play immediately and for a coach (Rich Rodriguez) who runs an offense geared toward his strengths.

Pryor announcement to be most anticipated in history
Posted: Tuesday February 5, 2008

What do you suppose it was like to be inside the tiny gymnasium at Jeannette (Pa.) High last Saturday night?

As a small-town Pennsylvania high school basketball game between Jeannette and East Alleghany played out on the court, most eyes were presumably scanning the stands, where on one side sat Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel and five of his assistants, on the other, newly anointed Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez and three of his assistants.

"I believe the team that gets him will win a national championship during his time there," said Rivals.com analyst Mike Farrell. "He's that much of a difference-maker."

OSU recruit will be 'shocked' if Pryor doesn't pick U-M
The Detroit News
One of Ohio State's top recruits believes quarterback Terrelle Pryor will pick Ohio State over Michigan.

Andrew Sweat, a linebacker from Trinity High in Washington, Pa., told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette of Pryor: "He didn't tell me he was committed, but he sounded like he was going to Ohio State."

Sweat met with Pryor and two other recruits already enrolled at OSU on Jan. 26 in Jeannette, Pa., where Pryor attends high school.

Pryor apparently leaning toward Buckeyes
Tuesday, February 05, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor plans to announce his college choice Wednesday and indications are it will be Ohio State.

A few of Pryor's friends and acquaintances told the Post-Gazette Ohio State is Pryor's top choice. One unnamed source said Pryor told him recently he would sign with Ohio State.

Pryor, though, has said he has not made up his mind. He will announce Wednesday at noon and said Monday his three finalists are Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. He also said he will not reveal his choice to anyone until a noon news conference that will be carried live by ESPNU and CSTV.

Trinity senior linebacker Andrew Sweat, an Ohio State recruit, and two other Buckeye recruits met with Pryor a week-and-half ago in Jeannette. Sweat believes Pryor will choose Ohio State.

"He didn't tell me he was committed, but he sounded like he was going to Ohio State," Sweat said.

Sweat and linemen J.B. Shugarts of Klein, Texas, and Mike Brewster of Orlando, Fla., attended Pryor's basketball game Jan. 26, and had pizza with Pryor after the game. Shugarts and Brewster are already enrolled at Ohio State, and Sweat will enroll in March.

"He said some pretty strong stuff about Ohio State. He said how he's just comfortable there and he really likes coach [Jim] Tressel," Sweat said. "You never know, but I'd be shocked if he didn't sign with Ohio State."

With less than twenty four hours to go before the beginning of the signing period, the drama surrounding the nation's No. 1 prospect refuses to end. Today, there have been varying reports that Terrelle Pryor has told people he will announce tomorrow. Scout.com spoke to Pryor and he is refuting those claims.
