Jeannette's Terrelle Pryor announces he had decided not to decide what college he will attend.

Even when Terrelle Pryor calls a news conference to announce that there is no news, he makes news.
Mr. Pryor, the all-everything quarterback at Jeannette High School and No. 1 recruit in the nation who has created intrigue across the country with his pending college decision, decided not to decide yesterday, the first day high school seniors could sign a binding letter of intent with a college.
About 50 reporters, some from national recruiting Web sites, had gathered in the Jeannette High gym to report on Mr. Pryor's choice. Networks ESPNU and College Sports Television were there to televise the announcement. He had said earlier that Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State were his top choices.
Mr. Pryor said he had made up his mind a few days ago, but a Tuesday night meeting with his father, Craig, changed it. He then decided not to decide.
Mr. Pryor has no timetable for making a college choice because Penn State has risen in his eyes, he said. His father also likes Penn State and the son plans to make a visit there in the near future, but not this weekend because he will attend an awards banquet in Atlanta.
"Me and my dad had a battle of differences," Mr. Pryor said. "He had a different mind and I had a different mind. He just made me think. He just wants me to go over it and think twice.
"He likes a couple schools. But not the school I was thinking."

Terrelle Pryor will wait to make his college decision
Thursday, February 7, 2008
BY Mike Popovich
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS The race for prized high school quarterback Terrelle Pryor continues.

Pryor did an about-face on national signing day when he decided not to commit to a school. Ohio State and Michigan are believed to be the front-runners for the Jeannette (Pa.) High School star, but Penn State and Oregon also are contenders.

"I don't have a choice yet," Pryor said during a nationally televised news conference at his high school that drew hundreds of reporters

Pryor is considered the nation's top unsigned high school prospect. He led Jeannette to a state title this past season and is the only player in Pennsylvania history to pass for more than 4,000 yards and rush for more than 4,000 yards in a career.

Oregon re-emerged as a possible destination two days after Pryor said the Ducks no longer were a finalist. Pryor said he plans on visiting Oregon.

Pryor's father, Craig, reportedly has urged him to consider Penn State, a school he has yet to visit.

Terrelle Pryor said his father influenced his decision to put off signing.

JEANNETTE, Pa. -- There was a time Tuesday, Terrelle Pryor said, when he knew which school he would sign with yesterday. Then came a conversation with his father that changed everything. "Me and my dad had a little battle of differences," Pryor said. "He had a different mind and I had a different mind. He just made me think. He just wants me to go over it and think twice."
Asked which school his father, Craig, preferred, Terrelle smiled and just said, "He likes a couple of schools, not the school I was thinking."

Rob Oller commentary: Pryor shouldn't have to scramble to make his decision

Thursday, February 7, 2008 3:12 AM
By Rob Oller

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For a player so adept at eluding tacklers, No. 1 quarterback recruit Terrelle Pryor has people all down his back. Just because he's an 18-year-old who can't make up his mind. Or won't make up his mind, depending on your viewpoint.
Two lines formed yesterday immediately after Pryor announced on national signing day that he had nothing much to announce, that he was not choosing Ohio State over Michigan or Michigan over Ohio State, that he would put off a decision to better study his options, which also include Penn State and Oregon.
The longer line includes those critics who consider Pryor to be something of a prima donna who extended the recruiting process because he craves the attention.
This line carries the three-word dismissal, "Who needs him?"

If Pryor says no, team looks for options

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

As he surveyed a rather surreal post-signing day landscape, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel fell back on what he does best: He shrugged it off and went to work.
"It is unusual," Tressel said of awaiting a decision from Terrelle Pryor, the nation's top quarterback recruit who chose not to sign a letter of intent Wednesday. "But it is what it is, and we press on."
Press on, indeed. The Buckeyes are wasting no time in lining up quarterback prospects for the recruiting class of 2009. They are set to host Cleveland South standout Devontae Payne on an unofficial visit later this month.
That likely would have been the case no matter what Pryor's situation, but now the hunt has taken on a new urgency.
"It magnifies it, there's no question," quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels said.
If Pryor spurns the Buckeyes, they will have just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster this fall: fifth-year senior Todd Boeckman and third-year sophomore Antonio Henton.
The third quarterback would be walk-on Joe Bauserman, although in fairness, he's probably a cut above the typical walk-on. He was good enough for OSU to offer a scholarship for 2004, but he chose to play pro baseball, instead.
The situation was exacerbated when Rob Schoenhoft transferred to Delaware in January.
Without Pryor, even if OSU signs a quarterback in 2009, it would enter that fall with Henton (two years of eligibility left), Bauserman (three years) and an incoming freshman.

Who Needs Terrelle Pryor?
By Pete Fiutak
Posted Feb 7, 2008

Who needs superstar QB prospect Terrelle Pryor? Michigan, absolutely. Penn State, definitely. Oregon, sure, and Ohio State, sort of. With the gem of the 2008 recruiting season still deciding on where to go, Pete Fiutak takes a look at the teams playing the waiting game, and what Pryor would mean to them.

SN: What's next for QB Terrelle Pryor? - College football - MSNBC.com

The biggest news on National Singing Day was not necessarily who signed and with what program.

Julio Jones to Alabama? Very compelling. Darrell Scott to Colorado over Texas? A huge get for the Buffs, no doubt. But Signing Day was more about who didn't sign with what program than anything else.

So, where do we go from here with the Terrelle Pryor saga?

NATIONAL COLUMNIST: If Pryor chooses Oregon, it will be another blow for the Big Ten

February 9, 2008
By Teddy Greenstein
Chicago Tribune
CHICAGO ? Those who know him best describe Terrelle Pryor as a teenager who likes to please everyone.
?Terrelle could run for governor,? his high school coach, Ray Reitz, told ESPN.com. ?He can?t tell anyone no.?

But by postponing his college selection, the nation?s top-ranked football recruit is pleasing no one ? except perhaps his father Craig, who wants him to take a longer look at Penn State, and coaches at Oregon, which is back in his final four.

The other two are Michigan and Ohio State. The Buckeyes long have been considered the favorite to land the 6-foot-5-inch, 225-pound dual-threat quarterback.

Pryor said he simply needs more time to decide. After leading Jeannette (Pa.) High School to a state title, his basketball season began three days later.

?I?d like to be fair to all the coaches recruiting me,? he said. ?The programs are not giving me a deadline. The coaches are all saying they have an open spot and will wait as long as possible.?

Under NCAA rules, Pryor could wait until April 1 to sign. That would make it tough for a school such as Michigan, which will install Rich Rodriguez?s spread-option offense in spring ball.

If Pryor chooses Michigan, he likely would start as a freshman.

Recruiting: Pryor down to Ohio State, Penn State

The nation's number one recruit, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, has removed Michigan and Oregon from his short list. That leaves only Ohio State and Penn State.
Four days ago he said that he would make his decision known at 12:05 on Tender Day , Wednesday the 6th. He did not.
He has now ruled out Michigan and Oregon. The decision would be bad for anybody, but it is particularly bad for the Wolverines, who don't have a suitable quarterback available for next season.
Worse still, Rodriguez' recruiting antics over the past few weeks have offended the entire conference. There is considerable speculation that what he has done may be working against him.
Recruiting ethics, plus missing documents at West Virginia, have raised red flags across the country.

Pryor could salvage Lions? ?Bloody Wednesday?
02/11/2008

You couldn?t have scripted Wednesday any worse than it went for Penn State. And, you couldn?t have scripted it any better.

bannerad.asp
For the roller-coaster ride that was the Nittany Lions? recruiting season of 2007-08, perhaps a more fitting National Letter of Intent Signing Day saga couldn?t have been written.

Penn State?s signing day started by officially losing out on its top target at wide receiver. It continued with the loss of a speedy running back to a Big Ten rival. It ended by losing the last in a long line of offensive tackles that told its coaching staff, ?Thanks, but no thanks.?

Somewhere in between though, there?s another player who didn?t pick Penn State ? who didn?t pick anybody for that matter ? and can make Bloody Wednesday go away.

Terrelle Pryor is still a free-agent, and a darn good one.

The top-ranked quarterback in the nation is so good, a swarm of media, Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch, ESPN and four of the town?s 14 policemen packed into Jeannette High School?s gymnasium Wednesday to listen to Pryor decide not to decide. The kid with more public courtships than Paris Hilton couldn?t decide on his suitor. More like, wouldn?t decide.

And so, the most epic recruiting story ever lives on, long past what so many figured would be the final pages.

Jeannette lineup loaded with talent

By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, February 12, 2008

When opposing coaches prepared for the Jeannette boys basketball team this season, their focus was on Terrelle Pryor. But opponents are finding out that Jeannette is more than just the 6-foot-5 1/2 Pryor, who averages 21.96 points per game.
Pryor has a lot of help this year. Shaw Sunder, a 6-3 senior, averages 12.5 points per game and Jordan Hall, a 5-10 junior, averages 14.5.
So, when Jeannette (16-4) battles Center (16-7) 8 p.m. Wednesday in a WPIAL Class AA second-round game at Baldwin High School, Jeannette coach Jim Nesser knows his team will face a challenge. Center is coached by Mark Jula.

OSU's Tressel still waiting for call from one recruit: Pryor
Tuesday, February 12, 2008
By Todd Porter
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

CANTON TWP. These days, Jim Tressel is confident he is not acting like an expectant father. Then, in the middle of his speech to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, his Blackberry vibrated. Tressel stopped to look at the message.

"My phone just went off," Tressel told the sold-out crowd. "It might be a recruit. If this phone rings, I'm taking it."

The group, which has listened to Tressel's shtick 22 straight years, laughed as loud as they could after trudging to Tozzi's on 12th during a bitterly cold afternoon.

Of course, everyone got the joke.
