Pryor pares down his list
Michigan, Ohio State appear to be final 2
Tuesday, January 29, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
It looks like the battle for Jeannette High School quarterback Terrelle Pryor is coming down to a two-horse race between Ohio State and Michigan.
Pryor said yesterday he has crossed LSU off his final list and decided not to visit Oregon this week because he won't have time. Pryor also plays basketball and Jeannette has games tonight, Friday in Philadelphia and Saturday at Jeannette. Pryor plans to announce his college choice Feb. 6.
Pryor has not crossed Oregon and Penn State off his list, but it's highly unlikely Pryor would choose Oregon without ever visiting the place. Chip Kelly, Oregon's quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, is scheduled to meet with Pryor today at Jeannette.

Top prospect Pryor a total package
Quarterback Terrell Pryor has the speed to outrun opponents and the arm to hit open receivers.

Quarterback Terrell Pryor has 4.4-second speed and 6-6, 225-pound size. 'We had Vince Young in our game six years ago and they're almost identical,' national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said of Pryor.Etienne Sabino knows what it's like to try to tackle a player with speed. The 6-3, 230-pound blue-chip linebacker from Miami Krop said playing in South Florida prepared him for the fast pace of the U.S. Army All-American game earlier this month.

What Sabino, an Ohio State commitment, wasn't ready for was meeting the nation's consensus No. 1 recruit -- quarterback Terrell Pryor -- and finding out speed could be wrapped in such a big body.

''I wasn't used to seeing a guy that big [6-6, 225 pounds] run the way he does,'' Sabino said of Pryor, his East teammate who won MVP honors in what is considered the country's most prestigious high school All-Star game.

``He's got a gun, too. I've only played against Vince Young in video games. But I guess I know now what it feels like.''

Paterno to visit nation?s top recruit Pryor tomorrow
By Jeff McLane
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

The closer is coming.

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is expected to travel to Jeannette, Pa. tomorrow to visit Terrelle Pryor, the nation's No. 1 overall high school recruit, according to a team source.

The 81-year-old icon will be joined by defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, who has recruited Pryor since he was in the ninth grade. A 6-foot-6, 235-pound quarterback, Pryor has pared his choices down to four schools: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon.

Pryor has taken official visits to only Ohio State and Michigan, although he has been to Penn State for a number of unofficial visits.

Still, the recruiting Web sites that track Pryor's every move have predicted the Parade national player of the year will choose between either the Buckeyes or the Wolverines. The Nittany Lions, though, still have their ace in the hole - Paterno.

The coach rarely visits recruits at this stage in his storied career. Whether he is too late, remains to be seen.

Ohio State football leading for top recruit Terrelle Pryor, says prep coach

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Saturday night, four days before National Signing Day, Ohio State and Michigan will go head-to-head one more time in the recruitment of Terrelle Pryor.
Jeannette (Pa.) High School quarterbacks coach Roy Hall said Tuesday that both Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez are planning to be in the stands to watch Pryor play in Jeannette's home basketball game on Saturday night. With a recruiting dead period beginning Monday, it may be the last chance for the Buckeyes and Wolverines to influence the No. 1 quarterback recruit in the nation.
It may not matter.

"A lot of things are telling me Ohio State," Hall said. "That's my gut feeling. In San Antonio, I was there and everyone he chose to hang out with were the kids from Ohio State and their parents."

Hall said LSU coaches wanted to visit Jeannette this week, but Pryor told them not to bother. Also, Pryor said he will not have time to make an official visit to Oregon, which seemingly would knock out the Ducks, who had remained in the running.

FORMER U-M LINEBACKER LARRY FOOTE ON TERRELLE PRYOR: 'He's not ready for the Big Ten defenses'

January 30, 2008
FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES
Former U-M linebacker Larry Foote appeared on WDFN's Stoney and Wojo show Tuesday afternoon.
He talked about a variety of topics ranging from the Detroit Lions to the MSU and Ohio State rivalries to Lloyd Carr and Rich Rodriguez. Below is a sampling of his answers to Terrelle Pryor-related questions:

Stoney: The big deal is whether Terrelle Pryor is going to end up a Michigan Wolverine or an Ohio State Buckeye. ... What's your gut feeling? Your teammate Charlie Batch has kind of been Terrelle's adviser in all this. What's your gut feeling?

Larry Foote: I'm hearing rumors. I seen people in Pittsburgh and they say he's going to Michigan, and that makes me comfortable. But when I seen that All-American game, he ahd the Michigan sweater on and then on his helmet he had the Buckeyes, so this kid is drawing it out big time. It's the biggest rivalry in sports. As long as he picks Michigan, you know.

Wojo: Do you know him at all, Terrelle Pryor? Have you met him?

LF: I've never met him. I've seen him play a couple times in Pittsburgh. He's a phenomenal athlete and he can get it done.

Terrelle Pryor and Ohio State: Ten thoughts on his recruiting saga

by Doug Lesmerises Wednesday January 30, 2008, 2:48 AM

medium_pryormarvin.jpg
Marvin Fong/ The Plain DealerTerrelle Pryor on his official visit to Columbus during the season. Hey, he's smiling, he must be a future Buckeye, eh?
1. Whether he winds up at Ohio State or Michigan, it's good for the Big Ten for Terrelle Pryor to play in the conference. Ranked the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the country by Rivals.com, he'll give the Big Ten three of the top seven dual-threat QBS in this recruiting class, joining No. 3 MarQueis Gray (Minnesota) and No. 7 Curt Phillips (Wisconsin).
By the way, the SEC has only one of the top 20 dual-threat QBs committed at this point. Over the past four years, the SEC leads the Big Ten in snagging dual-threat QBS ranked in the top 20 by a small amount, 13-12.
medium_kellenlewis.jpg
APIndiana's Kellen Lewis, the Big Ten's best quarterback last year. Not a bad place to start your Terrelle Pryor thoughts.

But Pryor is among the few elite QBs of this type to play in the Midwest. In that four-year span, Pryor will become just the third recruit ranked among the top 10 dual-threat quarterbacks to join the Big Ten. The others? Jake Christenson, who was ranked No. 2 in 2005 and emerged as Iowa's starter last year, and Ohio State's Antonio Henton, ranked No. 9 in 2006.
Nothing against pro-style quarterbacks, but this is where the game is going. Troy Smith was the best quarterback in the conference in 2006, and even though he didn't run much as a senior, he was a threat to do it. In 2007, I thought Indiana's Kellen Lewis was the most dangerous quarterback in the conference, throwing for 3,043 yards and running for 746 yards. Pryor should raise the level of play and help opposing defenses prep for games beyond the confines of the Big Ten.

LSU won't get Pryor commitment

by Mike Strom, The Times-Picayune Wednesday January 30, 2008, 10:03 AM

Pennsylvania high school quarterback Terrelle Pryor, rated the nation's top senior prospect by Rivals.com, apparently has ended his flirtation with LSU, and indications are that his top college choices are Michigan and Ohio State.

Pryor just last week had scheduled an official visit to Baton Rouge for this weekend, the final weekend available for making visits before National Signing Day Feb. 6. But on Monday, after failing to follow through on a scheduled weekend visit to Oregon, Pryor told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he had eliminated LSU from his list of finalists.

Pryor, a 6-foot-6, 225-pounder from Jeannette High School, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, said he is unlikely to make any more official visits because of his playing commitment to his high school basketball team. Pryor visited Michigan earlier this month and Ohio State in November.
The newspaper said Pryor still plans to announce his college choice on signing day and that Oregon and Penn State remain under consideration, although it's unlikely he would choose Oregon without having visited the school.
Attempts to reach Pryor and his coach, Ray Reitz, were unsuccessful.
Penn State is considered a long shot, Reitz has said, because of the Nittany Lions' I-formation offense. Pryor is running a spread offense in high school, Reitz said, and Michigan will employ the same offense under new coach Rich Rodriguez.
But Penn State Coach Joe Paterno is scheduled to visit Pryor today in Jeannette, the Post-Gazette reported. Paterno does not visit with many high school prospects on the road.

Pryor may push back college choice
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

High school football players can sign a binding letter of intent with a college, starting next Wednesday. But Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor might not sign with anyone that day.

Pryor had planned to announce his college decision live on ESPN next Wednesday. But he said today he might wait at least a few days to make his choice.

"I'd say it's about 50-50 that I'll push things back," Pryor said.

One of the main reasons Pryor might not sign next Wednesday is because he is thinking about making an official visit to the University of Oregon some time next week.

Matt, Columbus, Ohio: Craig, You and Tom's take on Terrelle Pryor seems to be much different than many other recruiting insiders, who think he is going to OSU. I am curious, is it inside information or the "logical choice" on why the two of you think he is Michigan bound?

Craig Haubert: (3:19 PM ET ) Well we will find out where Pryor is heading on NSD on the U -- but as far as what i think -- i do think Michigan -- they are selling hard and it is a logical fit.

Craig Haubert: (3:21 PM ET ) For a long time i felt it was Ohio States to lose and it looks like it will be a battle between these two. I felt OSU was the place because of the relationships he had built with many of their commitments.

Craig Haubert: (3:22 PM ET ) His HS QB coach has stated he thinks OSU will be the place for those reasons - and i would not be surprised. I should dance with the girl i brought so to speak and stick with OSU, but for right now i am leaning towards Michigan.

Recruiting: Pryor '50-50' on delaying his decision
Thursday, January 31, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
High school football players can sign a binding letter of intent with a college starting Wednesday. But Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor might not sign with anyone that day.
Pryor had planned to announce his college decision live on ESPN Wednesday. But he said yesterday he might wait at least a few days to make his choice.
"I'd say it's about 50-50 that I'll push things back," Pryor said.
One of the main reasons Pryor might not sign Wednesday is because he is thinking about making an official visit to the University of Oregon some time next week.
Earlier this week, it seemed the race was down to Ohio State and Michigan because Pryor wasn't going to visit Oregon. If Pryor visits Oregon, the Ducks will still have a chance at landing him.
Pryor also said yesterday Penn State is not out of the running. Penn State coach Joe Paterno visited with Pryor at Jeannette yesterday. Paterno's son, Jay, Penn State's quarterbacks coach, and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley also were there. They also visited with Pryor's father at his home.

In person, Paterno recruits Pryor

By Jeff McLane
Inquirer Staff Writer
The Lion spent a winter morning in western Pennsylvania. Penn State coach Joe Paterno visited Jeannette yesterday in a last-ditch attempt to woo Terrelle Pryor, the nation's top-rated high school senior, east to State College.
The 81-year-old coach arrived at Jeannette High - located just outside Pittsburgh - mid-morning and left just after noon, according to Jeannette athletic director Bob Murphy. Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, Pryor's primary recruiter, and quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno accompanied the elder Paterno.
The three coaches met with Pryor, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound quarterback; his coach, Ray Reitz; and Murphy. Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and Pryor's mother were also in attendance, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
"It went OK," Pryor said to the Post-Gazette. "I just don't know about the area up there."
Murphy described the meeting as "very cordial."
Penn State does not comment on potential recruits.
Pryor has narrowed his list to four schools - Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon - with one week until national signing day next Wednesday. He planned on announcing his decision that day on ESPNU at 12:05 p.m., but told the Post-Gazette yesterday that he may push back his news conference a few days so he could make an official visit to Oregon.
