WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

here is a rebuttal from another SI writer

Stop bashing Ginn

Why are people still ripping on the Dolphins for taking Ted Ginn Jr. at No. 9? SI.com's Michael Silver reported today that several Miami veterans were upset the team didn't draft quarterback Brady Quinn.

Here are five reasons the condemnation of Ginn makes no sense:

Note: I will add to his point 4- It has been reported that the Texans would have taken him with the next pick at no. 10.

Second-guessing Ginn
Dolphins veterans puzzled by first-round selection

SI.com - Writers - Michael Silver: Dolphins veterans puzzled by decision to draft Ginn - Thursday June 7, 2007 1:01PM

I see...'cause we all know that Vonnie freakin Holliday is the difference between winning and losing :shake:

Speaking of hurt, ol' Vonnie has missed games in right around 50% of the seasons he has spent in the league. So you know, he kinda sets the benchmark on healthy, right?

Injured Ginn works out under medical supervision
By Greg A. Bedard and Edgar Thompson

Thursday, June 07, 2007

Ted Ginn Sr. said his son, who has been recovering from a left foot sprain that he suffered in the BCS Championship game Jan. 8, is healthy and worked out under the supervision of the Dolphins' medical staff

Ginn Jr.'s return to practice coincided with the publication on the Web of a story that said Dolphins defensive veterans Vonnie Holliday and Jason Taylor were stunned by Ginn's selection. That Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn was available added to the surprise, the story said.

Holliday, a defensive tackle, said his comments were misconstrued.

"I was by no means trashing our pick; that's not what I was doing," he said. "I'm not trashing the Dolphins, I'm not trashing the (front office personnel) and what they do. That's not my job and I wasn't doing that in my comments."

Ginn Sr. said neither he nor his son minded Holliday's comments.

"Being a coach and being in athletics, I don't know anybody who's proven until he's proven," Ginn Sr. said. "I don't know anyone who came in with nothing to prove."

Ginn Jr. reports foot is pain free
BY CARL KOTALA
FLORIDA TODAY

DAVIE - Ted Ginn Jr., sporting a shaved head and no noticeable signs of a foot injury, practiced for the first time with the Miami Dolphins on Friday.

He worked on punt returns, caught a few passes and reported his previously injured foot is now pain free and that he's running at full speed.

He also found himself in the middle of a controversy created by a story carried on Sports Illustrated's Web site. In the story, Dolphin veterans Vonnie Holliday, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas were all quoted and portrayed as being unhappy the Dolphins selected the speedy Ohio State receiver instead of Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn with the No. 9 overall pick.

"I don't pay any attention to that," Ginn Jr. said. "I stay away from things like that. I just live my life. There's going to be some people that hate you, there's going to be some people that cheer for you. You've just got to go on being you."

Holliday, Taylor and Thomas were all upset about the way the article came off after they talked to the reporter.

"We had a conversation and bits and pieces of the conversation were taken, molded into an article," Holliday said. "There shouldn't have been one. It was an article that was supposed to focus on Jason, a good friend of mine, my teammate. It was supposed to be a good thing and it turned out to be something else so I was definitely frustrated, disappointed and upset because of it."

Holliday spoke with Dolphins coach Cam Cameron about the story, and even went up to Ginn on Friday to let him know he is happy he is here.

Thomas said his remarks were "chopped up" and that he actually liked the Dolphins draft. Taylor simply said the remarks were taken out of context.

"You take not being happy, (for) having an opinion," he said. "Everybody has an opinion. I read, and hear, and saw a bunch of different things said after the draft. Everyone in the world had an opinion about it, so are we any different? It becomes such a big story for nothing.

"It's amazing to me, just because we agree with some of the things the fans might have said. The sexy pick would have been someone else, but it didn't work out that way. We have an opinion. To be honest, I think we know a heck of a lot more than some of the other folks who have an opinion. It was taken out of context to say that Vonnie doesn't like what the team was doing, all the other (stuff) that was said, it's almost as ridiculous as the Paris Hilton drama."

Pain-free' Ginn gains acceptance from team
By Edgar Thompson
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

DAVIE — Dolphins rookie Ted Ginn Jr. took his first steps Friday in his uphill climb to prove he merited being drafted ninth overall.

Ginn caught passes and fielded punts on the first day of the team's final spring mini-camp, showing flashes of the speed the Dolphins hope will ignite an offense in need of a game-breaker.

His first official practice with Miami helped quell concerns about a foot injury he suffered Jan. 8 on the opening kickoff in the BCS Championship game.

Ginn said he is "pain free" after a long healing process and able to do anything asked of him.

"I went out there and I did my thing," he said after the morning session Friday. "It's just a process. I should be fully running and doing everything with the rest of the players."

Six weeks ago, critics pounced on Dolphins officials after they used a high pick on an undersized (5-foot-11, 178) speed player with a severe sprain of the middle of his left foot. Pessimists said he might not recover this season, and even coach Cam Cameron conceded that Ginn, a star at Ohio State, might not be able to practice until the opening of training camp in late July.

Skeptics of Ginn's selection included members of his new team.

Ginn's arrival at practice Thursday coincided with the publication on SI.com of a story that said defensive veterans Vonnie Holliday and Jason Taylor were shocked by the choice of Ginn.

Holliday, who told The Palm Beach Post on Thursday that his comments were misunderstood, spoke Friday with Ginn.

Said Ginn of Holliday: "He came up to me today and said, 'Whatever that's going on out there, don't pay any attention to it. We love you here, we like that you're here.' "

Ginn said he was happy with the conversation.

"That's all it takes, for a man to come up and talk to another man with respect," Ginn said.

Linebacker Zach Thomas said he was glad Ginn was in camp so he wouldn't fall behind.

"You have to come in and get comfortable," Thomas said. "You can't just jump in during that first game and think you're going to be out there and go full speed."

Cameron gauged Ginn to be "90-plus" percent healthy but expressed caution.

"It's going to take some time," Cameron said. "He's here. Now he starts to grow. Let's get 100 percent healthy and let's grow."

Ginn said he has a lot of growing to do before he'll be ready to help the team.

"I still have a lot of learning to do," he said. But he added: "By the time camp comes, I should be fine."

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] DAVIE ? Perhaps offering a glimpse into the Dolphins' future, rookie quarterback John Beck rolled out and hit first-round receiver Ted Ginn Jr. in full stride into the end zone during the afternoon session of Friday's minicamp.

Although this young tandem may be a few years from quieting critics of the team's April draft, it had to be reassuring to officials to finally see the Ohio State star make his on-field debut in a Dolphins' uniform.

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] DAVIE ? Cam Cameron admittedly dislikes making comparisons, but at the conclusion of this weekend's minicamp, the Dolphins' head coach couldn't stop himself from comparing 2007 first-round pick Ted Ginn to former NFL return specialist Desmond Howard, whom Cameron coached as an assistant at Michigan.

"As a returner, you can see why he is what he is. He just catches the ball effortlessly," Cameron said about his first up-close look at Ginn, the former Ohio State standout who missed previous camps because of a left foot sprain. "I thought for a first practice, he was everything I thought he was and then some."

Ginn, Satele impress at minicamp

BY SARAH ROTHSCHILD

The Dolphins saw underwhelming performances from several of their 2006 draft picks last season, but after the completion of minicamp Sunday, Cam Cameron had high praise for two rookies -- Ted Ginn and Samson Satele.
Ginn, the ninth pick in the draft, finished his first minicamp, and spent five practices sharing time as a return specialist and wide receiver since Friday. Satele, selected in the second round (60th overall), took snaps as the starting center.
