Q: Is it true Ted Ginn will have to wear a walking boot and that he'll miss the next minicamp in June?

A: The Dolphins are finalizing a medical plan for Ginn that could require short-term use of a walking boot. I don't consider that a major deal as long as he is ready by training camp as expected by team officials. Even without the injury, Ginn, like other rookies from Ohio State, was going to be unable to practice in June because of an NFL rule barring further participation in minicamps until his college's senior class graduates.

I was hoping Teddy would end up in a #7 jersey but the NFL's stupid rules about numbers kind of nixed that. #19 is a wierd jersey number. I'm guessing very few #19 jerseys ever sell for any team. Mines on order now though so we'll see.

Fins' draft pick exhibits strength of character
Those close to Ted Ginn insist the Dolphins couldn't have drafted a more well-rounded person.

MEET TED GINN

? Position: Wide receiver

? Hometown/birth date: Cleveland/April 12, 1985

? Ht./Wt.: 6-0, 180

? College: Ohio State

? Quick look: Selected by the Dolphins with the ninth overall pick in the draft. Was a Heisman Trophy candidate as a senior and scored on the opening kickoff in Ohio State's loss to Florida in the Bowl Championship Series title game in January. Played for his father, Ted Sr., at Cleveland's Glenville High, where he received scholarship offers in football, track and basketball. His mother, Jeanette, plans to move to Miami in the coming months. His first major purchase as a pro athlete was a Cadillac Escalade. Could join Dwyane Wade (Heat) and Dontrelle Willis (Marlins) as a 25-and-under star with a local pro franchise.

''One beautiful thing about Teddy is he's got a calmness and confidence about him that [the doubters] aren't going to affect him,'' Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said. ``What's most important to him is making sure he contributes to his veterans being successful. With all of the ability he has, it would have been easy to get caught up in what was good for him. I can't wait to see the reaction when he becomes the toast of that town. They'll soon be cheering for him.''

Ginn as a Fin

''One beautiful thing about Teddy is he's got a calmness and confidence about him that [the doubters] aren't going to affect him,'' Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said. ``What's most important to him is making sure he contributes to his veterans being successful. With all of the ability he has, it would have been easy to get caught up in what was good for him. I can't wait to see the reaction when he becomes the toast of that town. They'll soon be cheering for him.''

What more can you say? These Jim Tressel words are worth repeating in the context of every recruit coming along that will run in the steps of Teddy Ginn. Don't forget where you came from and respect the seniors (veterans) as you're own success translates into a team success. You couldn't ask for better ambassadors to the game of football coming to cities like Miami, Indianaplois, New Orleans or Baltimore than the guys that were coached under Jim Tressel. Their calmness and confidence reflect his style and ability as a coach.

Professional football doesn't need any more hype, but the NFL can always use a few great young players to remind us that Scarlet and Gray will always be the colors that define class, integrity, and kick-ass ability no matter where they play the game or what colors they wear in the years to come.

Go get 'em Teddy, Troy, Gonzo, Roy, Tony, Quinn. Show them your colors!

Rookie Ginn set to report June 7

Dolphins first-round receiver/returner Ted Ginn Jr. is scheduled to report June 7, one day before the start of the next minicamp.

Ginn, a junior at Ohio State, declared for the draft early. Due to NCAA rules, Ginn isn't allowed to officially report until his class graduates June 7. Ginn is nursing a sprained foot, but Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said Friday that receivers coach Terry Robiskie has been told everything is "positive."

Ginn, one of five draft picks still unsigned, will miss the upcoming week of organized coaching sessions for rookies.

"He's allowed to have playbooks and that kind of stuff," Cameron said. "He's coming here as a returner first. He'll need to do a lot of studying for that. And then a receiver and he'll learn. Like I said, we've been through this with other guys."

Second-guessing Ginn
Dolphins veterans puzzled by first-round selection
Posted: Thursday June 7, 2007 12:58PM; Updated: Thursday June 7, 2007 1:02PM

let veteran defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday tell it: "With the ninth pick they took a guy who is basically a kick returner -- a hurt kick returner. Here were are in June, and he hasn't been in camp yet. Maybe he'll come in eventually and become a better route-runner and make some plays. But I couldn't believe it then, and I can't believe it now."
