WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Now, I've never seen Ginn at a practice or on the track, so my observations are based only on what I've seen him do on the field. I have spent a few years in competative cross-country and track and have a good feeling of a players running abilities and the quirks that follow the physical traits given to them. First of all, his legs are improportionately larger than his arms, which gives him that killer 5-6 yard stride when he gets up to speed. Second, his feet pronate considerably (his feet roll from the outside to the inside on every stride) from what looks like flat feet. If he indeed has low arches than it is in his best interest to bulk up his lower body to avoid injury. What I'm scared about is at his current level of fitness, he is very injury prone - a hit to the knees, or getting his ankle tweaked by being pulled to the ground would be detrimental. Extra muscle mass gives the support to tendons strained by less-than-optimal bone placement (aka low arches). But like I said, these are only observations, and poor ones at best, if you really think about it.
Great post Rockman! Some posters here don't have a clue about sports and fitness and thus ran their mouth and mis-qoute people. All they could see is what happened to David Boston (and perhaps Lydell ross) when he gained his muscle mass. Well listen up folks, David used steroids to help him, and that drug have great affect on your brain...slow down your reaction time is one of the biggest one. So he seems slower because he reacts to things slower. When you trained (and eat) properly, your dandraits (speeling word) in your brain will develop better and thus improve your vision and reaction to things around you.

And Tim May and Ken Gordon are expert in what area, MegaWoody? They are reports/writers, not trainers, coaches nor players.
Buckeye1: You have a urinal cake for a brain.

1. I put 'experts' in quotes, clearly indicating that it was not my description of them.

If you don't want Teddy play defense because you are affraid that he can get hurt, then have the balls to say it so.
2. Read the whole thread, you moron. I started this thread and made very clear right up front what my position is. My balls are hangin' just fine, tough guy ...and they aren't numb-nuts like yours.

Mili,
You can't just pick a portion of what I have posted and distort my entire view of this. If you just want to make a point then make your point, don't mis-qoute people like those at ESPN do. Read my entire post again and see if my view was that Teddy should just bulk up. I clearly stated that proper training is the key, and that his coaches would know more about that than any of us do.

Yo, you were the one distorting positions...had you read my original post thoroughly, you wouldn't have replied the way you did. I don't want to see Ginn put on muscle just for the sake of putting on muscle the way that many, and not necessarily you, imply.

If anyone still thinks Ginn should move primarily to defense:

"They found a lot of different ways to get him the ball," Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Bill Clay said. "At a certain point, I think our guys got a little unnerved wondering what might be next with Ted Ginn Jr."

His mere presense on offense totally changes the defensive scheme.

Ah, Michael Roberts, I had completely forgotten about him. He really could step in and be an adequate corner this year. He's stuck around in the program, kept his mouth shut, and worked hard. It'd be great for him to have a shot at CB. Kind of reminds me of Will Allen a few years ago.

I hate to take this completely off topic, but if what you say is true (not doubting, just have never heard that before), then I would suggest that it may be proof that Bonds may not be guilty. What he does with a baseball would suggest pretty quick reaction times. :)

Ginn needs to bulk up if...

...if he is going to play corner, he may need some bulk because of the size of the players he will be expected to TACKLE.

I remember that being Gamble's weak spot is that he was not a Antoine Winfield-type of hitter. He could grab someone and wrap them up and bring them down, but an OSU corner has to be able to run support, and will be tackling everything from 170 pounders to 265 pound tight ends (at times).

This was not aproblem in high school, but will he be able to do this in Div. I???

So, maybe the weight would help him in this area.

GO BUCKS!

Ginn could gain ten pounds if we gave him the tuba and let let him dot the i. That would also get him more Heisman exposure... I can just hear Keith Jackson now, "Folks, what more do you want from this young man? In the first half he returned two Michigan punts for touchdowns, caught five passes, one for 93 yards and a third touchdown and now he dots the i."

This guy is the most exciting offensive player EVER at this University, and people are concerned about putting weight on him to make him better? Better than Who?

Bingo.

Also... don't we just need a boundary corner anyway?

Shit... put Whitner in Fox's old spot... tackling is the most important thing anyway... and if they catch a few in front of him, he's hit those poor bastards so hard they won't do it again.

Anyway... we've got plenty of CB's... especially if Underwood can take some time and get his head on straight....

Or just put Jamario out there... if you're worried... check the tape.. and the only tape I've seen of the kid, he was a Soph at Mans Sr. FREAK. (btw, I have never advocated expecting a major contribution from any incoming player... ever, until now)

Fuck Both ways... Keep him fresh.

Offense with Tone, Bam, Hall? Sucked

Offense with Tone, TGII, Gonzo? Check the stat sheet.

Mili,
I don't have to read your oringinal note because I did not use it in my post. You posted a note using part of my qoute and distorted my view...you even said so above! That is why I made my reply. If I did not have the view that many did, then why did you use my post. Why not pick one that have the wrong view and make your point there. Either way, we are saying the same thing regarding Ginn.

People use qoutation marks for various reasons. Since I do not read minds, I can not argue with you as to why you used them. The only logic to it is that you are negative about Ginn playing defense, and then you use Tim and Ken's qoute from the Dispatch to support your view. So you putting qoutation marks around the word expert is not exaclty "clearly indicating that it was not my description of them."

Yeah....your position is very clear to me and everyone else here, and your nuts are hanging just fine...right from your nose ;-)

I like the fact that #7 could get us Heisman #7.
Im wondering how he would get it. It would have to be for all purpose yards and be like a charles woodson type of thing where he plays both ways and punt returns as well, but is more limited on offense. I wouldn't want to wear him down as the year went on with 100+ plays a game.
