WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Ginn's Heisman hopes will be over before they begin if USC's Tom Malone decides to stay for his Senior year.

Im wondering how he would get it. It would have to be for all purpose yards and be like a charles woodson type of thing where he plays both ways and punt returns as well, but is more limited on offense. I wouldn't want to wear him down as the year went on with 100+ plays a game.

Probably by just being a gamebreaker. Reggie Bush's numbers weren't ridiculous, but he finished 4th. I think people are more willing to factor in pure talent and gamebreaking-ability for guys like Ginn

First punter ever...the campaign did bring you gys good luck this year so why not continue it?

Well, we found it kinda had negative effects on team chemistry. Malone was trying to take out threats to his Heisman run by whispering into Mike Williams' ear about going pro and aiming for Leinart's head during warmups.

It seems to me that Tressel is selling offensive recruits on the prospects of playing in an offense that includes Teddy Ginn. Maurice Wells talks about the "Shot Ginn" offensive strategy as Tressel described it to him and I believe others have noted that as well. That alone tells me that Tressel has no intentions of moving Ginn to a "full-time" corner position. I wouldn't think the nickle back position would be ruled out though.

Any thoughts?

So back to Ginn...

Where do you think he ranks preseason as far as Heisman hype?
I think the preseason candidates will rank something like this:

1. Leinart (if he comes back, obviously)
2. Peterson (but I think his numbers will be down slightly next year)
3. Bush
4. Vince Young
5. Chris Leak
6. Teddy Ginn
7. Hart/Henne, whichever TSUN highlights
8. Reggie McNeal
9. Drew Tate
10. Lawrence Maroney
11. Marcus Vick (will be overhyped based on name)

Matt Hayes of TSN on Ginn

From the January 14, 2005 edition of The Sporting News

A show of hands, please; Who would pay to see Reggie Bush race Ted Ginn? Or, better yet, to see Ginn, who also plays cornerback, cover Bush in next year's Rose Bowl national championship game?
Yeah, me too.
First, I don't think there's a question who would win that race.

Yes, this is the same Matt Hayes who predicted the 2002 Buckeyes to LOSE for four straight games (he got four straight emails from me, I actually got a response from the last one). He absolutely hated on this team, but who didn't that year?

Gotta give the man his props for "who also plays CB". TSN is pretty dead as a company and usually is just little brother to ESPN but I actually think Hayes is better than most CFB guys residing at ESPN.

I have this odd feeling that the Buckeyes are going to be getting a bit more respect as a team in '05... and Ted Ginn is a part of it.

While he may have predicted losses for OSU during the 2002 season, keep in mind that he was part of the TSN staff that actually predicted OSU would beat Miami in the Fiesta Bowl. One of the few pubs/media outlets that not only did but had good rationale as to why.

A better question would be who in USC's secondary is going to cover Ginn. I like Reggie Bush. He's a great and exceptionally versatile player, but he was neither the best receiver nor the best back on his team against OU. Possibly, that was by design and a function of being used all over the field, but he certainly isn't going to run past TeddyG. They don't have anyone else who could shut him down for an entire game (especially after TG's spent another full season developing as a receiver).

Actually, TSN predicted us to lose both of the Fiesta Bowls. 36-22 to scUM-s
and 30-14 to K St.

Maybe it was CFN you were thinking of ? One or two of the guys there predicted us to beat scUM-s.
