WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

I think it will be his own decision to make. I'm sure the coaching staff will ask if he feels ready to take on the extra responsibility. If he is projected for that much work in the preseason, we might have an early contender for the Heisman.

yeah....playmaking receivers are a dime a dozen....???

if so....why did the "cornerback" have to make a game-winning play from a receivers position???

i dont remember gamble ever doing that.....this kid has offense written all over him.....

Gamble had a few of his big plays, but they were on the defensive side of the ball. Gamble had 3+ game-changing plays during the 2002 regular season.

What he is saying is that you can find kids that are speedy and athletic to come to your school and make plays like Ginn's reverse, punt return or slant. They usually do not have quite as good of balance as Ginn, but there are plenty of lightning fast slashers out there (like Cryami's returner).

It is quite hard to recruit an outstanding shutdown corner. I agree that we might not need Ginn on defense. In terms of recruiting in general, he is much more valuable of an addition at CB than WR/PR/KR. With the depth we have at CB, he may prove to be more valuable to the team at WR. Time will tell.

i agree you can recruit a holmes, lyons and jenkins....

but there is NO comparison for ted jr's speed.....never in the history of ohio state football has there been speed like this....

hell...he has damn near single-handedly won two straight games with that speed...his speed is unprecendented.....thats why i think this is different...

did you see john l smith's face after ginn took the slant to the house???

that is what every coach now has to contend with when facing the buckeyes....

I think galloway was pretty close, not sure if his 4.15 forty was pre-NFL or not.

But I don't think galloway was nearly as gifted in terms of sheer game changing ability. So I agree with you, tho I think we might have seen a faster player in terms of sheer 40 yard dash speed.

i cant recall any world-class sprinters on the buckeyes....but thats me...

what matters most is that his speed with the pads on is mind-blowing.....and with the pads on is all i care about....

you are correct...galloway was scary fast as was glenn.....but it just seems ginn has another gear those two didnt....

it is almost funny on ginn's big plays...once he gets behind the defense, the defenders just stop, they dont even bother chasing him.....even if they have 40 yards to try to catch up....they just stop....

At least the announcers were able to get that part right. Ginn is a football player who runs track.

Has he been getting any reps with the defense during practice? I could see him spending more time there during the off season. With Fox's departure there will be an open spot at DB next year and I don't think the coaches have christened who is going to fill that void.

I have been very impressed with a few things with Ginn. First, he has very nice hands. Second, he is not just speed as he makes moves. Finally, he seems bigger than 170 as he is not easy to bring down.

Ultimately, I think if he can handle defense while still maintaining his high level on offense I think he gets a shot at both, eventually.

I don't give a shit what his forty is. His speed and change of direction is unmatched on the field.

What do you guys think of his initial acceleration? I always thought Deion had accleration that was obvious and Eric Dickerson's was not visible but obvious after the fact. TG reminds me of ED's running style....but faster.

We need to see Ginn against a speedy secondary (unsure if scUM's secondary is as speedy as it is talented and big).

There's no question he seems to have a gear no one else has, but I want to see him play a team with speed at every position to know how he compares to Primetime or ED.

Ive seen the highlight tape from the '93 and '94 seasons and boy was Joey Galloway a burner, and has been timed under 4.3 in the 40

Ive seen Ted Ginn this year, and he is quite fast himself, prolly becoming our next great player ala Joey Galloway but hopefully better. Also under 4.3

So i pose this question: Who is/was faster, im sure Galloway has lost some of it of the years, but back in his prime who would win the race?

DiHard -- Man - I have to agree with you. Ginn is just f***ing awesome.
(And I've got meet that awesome chick - her sex life muxt be unbelieveable).

This has been one heady day though - didn't get to see anything but highlights of the tOSU at E.Lansing game (though I have the whole fest recorded and ready to revel in.

I was down in a certain southern state with good seats to see the (3-inch cleat) Vol Nation get humbled by the Fighting Irish. Before we get to the game I learn that it is 17-13 favoring tOSU. At the half of the TN - ND game a fella with this Blackberry scrolls through the scores and lets me know about the Buckeyes win in Lansing.

Second he started talking about the last two "game-breaking" scores I knew Ted Ginn had to be in on at least one.

Great weekend - ND douses the over-rated Volunteers and even without the help of my sage but loud "from the couch" coaching tOSU whips up on _SU.

Awesome indeed. And i can relive it tOSU's good work for the first time tomorrow on my return to the Buckeye State.
