WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Which is the bigger problem? Ted Ginn Jr or Troy Smith? I say Troy Smith.

I don't know, but have you seen him drop 3 balls in 2 games, not run the right route 2 or 3 times that we know of and not make could cuts out of routes. I am not knocking Teddy b/c I love him, he is just not a polished reciever as of yet, and when he is, watch out. It was easier last year to get him the ball b/c teams werent keying on him like they are this year. Just let him play with in the offense and he will be fine. Both of them.

Ok first off this is just like last year when Holmes was the man being doubled all over the field after his dominance of Marshall. Then he struggled for a couple of games when he got used to it.

I think now that Ginn is lining up all over the field it is just taking time to figure out how to beat the double teams and get him the ball. Trust me they are working on it and when the game starts to slow down for these guys we will be ok. I think last week they were still playing at Texas speed and they played to the level of their opponent.

Ginn has still been impressive on returns, so it is just a matter of time before he catches a slant and takes it all the way or takes a reverse to the house. They can't play the reverse perfect everytime can they.

Not exactly ding, ding, ding we got a winner. But, the above surely is part of the problem ...

Should Ginn start getting practice reps at corner??

Please hear me out. It sure seems like teams are having a great deal of success taking Ginn out of Ohio State's offensive equation. I think he had 31 yards receiving yesterday and he's not getting many touches.

At corner if he touches the ball 3-4 times a game he's an All American. Add in his punt/KO returns and he's a surefire AA.

Finally, is it the mere presence of Ginn that is really opening things up for Gonzo and Holmes? They were open all day yesterday.

Dont forget that Ginn shouldve had a TD yesterday on his punt return.

Most punts have either been away from him or low line-drives, which makes it hard to follow your blocks and break it open. Kickoffs have also routinely gone to Santanio Holmes. He showed progress yesterday with a couple of first down catches, he made sure that he looked the ball in before he started running. One of these games a team will forget about him or get lazy with their coverage, and then hes gone.

He will come around.

Thats a tough question to answer. It would be great to replace Everett, since he is the weakest link in the secondary, yet Malcom Jenkins might be able to do that sooner than alot of people realize. This team is great without him at corner, why fix it if its not broken??? Yesterday a 6-1 170 lb corner got matched up against 6-7 250 Leonard Pope in the Georgie game, are you willing to risk injury???

I need to go back and rewatch it but i had some of the same questions yesterday. On the surface it appears they have just said if you aren't going to run good routes then you will be the most talented decoy in OSU history and we are going to war with those who will learn and do what the are supposed to do. Just keep running fly patterns and we'll throw the ball to Santonio and Anthony once you've cleared the zone out.

I would disagree on ever moving him unless it just becomes appearant that he will never pick up the art of playing WR (which I doubt is the case). He's simply too talented to give up on. Poor routes and all his presence alone gives opposing DC's something they have to legitimately gameplan for and one of these days hopefully he'll get the rout running thing down and then its over.

No doubt about his return abilities. He's going to get his returns and he should ALWAYS be back on KO/P returns.

I guess a better question is where does his NFL future lie?

If it doesn't lie at WR then isn't it in the kid's best interests to start getting him reps where he WILL play in the NFL? I hate to think that he's going to be a decoy for the rest of this year and next.

Why put him at corner? From my understanding, he's gotten no reps at practice at corner. Granted, he used to play there in high school, but I-A is a whole different ballgame. Besides, it's not like Everett and/or Jenkins are playing badly. I don't see why you'd want to put someone back there that would have to suffer a learning curve and potentially make mistakes when there seemingly isn't anything wrong right now.

I am quite certain JT will play him wherever is best for THIS team. I doubt TGII's NFL future is his #1 priorty when deciding where to play him.

Ginn played a good game yesterday. He had some good blocks and was running some good routes.

I think you have to keep him on offense for two reasons.

1. You take him off offense and it makes it easier for the defense to cover just two recievers instead of 3. See Gonzo having lb's covering him vs. cb's.

2. Where are you going to play him on d. Youbouty and Jenkins have the cb positions on lockdown.

Ginn is just waiting his turn and he is playing within the offense. Keep in mind the first game of the season he had 130 yds recieving. Troy is working on spreading the ball around and he is doing a good job. Teddy is going to get his chance and when he gets it, he is going to take it with a full head of steam.

I agree that it seems that Jenkins is the next great corner at Ohio State.
