I remember the first time I heard about marijuana while a student, winter of 66. Being a theatre major I knew most of the folks who smoked dope... other theatre majors and the fine arts groups. I entered the army in 67 and came back on campus after Vietnam, September of 69. By then you could walk down 15th at night and smell the grass being toked in the Greek houses. You could get a whiff at football games and the smell of incense was everywhere trying to mask the obvious.

I don't salute the fact that Holmes pushed dope, but I'm sure in no position to condemn. I suspect a great deal of hypocrisy is in action in this matter.

i think the Michael Phelps sort of proves that pot isn't that bad for you.

IMO pot should be legalized and regulated just like tobacco (and hookers should be too)

LOL, or proves how little you know about olympic level training. There is a very small window to do things like that, and he certainly took advantage.

Hell, the only way I made it through 3rd grade was by cutting my teacher a price break in exchange for a passing grade.

Was talking once with the missus' mother about how it is all in the news these days (these days being about ten years back).

She was getting on in years, and remembered the late 20's and 30's. When I mentioned how this was something nearly unknown till the mid-60's she recalled that it was all over the newspapers in those long gone days.
Mostly stuff about Mexicans and movie stars.
Then it simply fell off the scandal sheets - till the mid-60's, Vietnam and rock stars.

I asked if that surprised her, she said no, it just wasn't being reported on that much once the late thirties and the War cranked up - but anyone who really wanted to get some knew where to go and get it.

Not at all, honestly I'd be surprised if he was even allowed to have caffeine. Gary Hall was probably the most notorious, regular pot smoking swimmer. Even he knew when it was time to put down the pipe. Training on that level is structured, and regimented in such a way that there leaves little room for distractions. His post Olympic break was probably the first time, in a long time, that he didn't have to live inside the confines of his training guidelines.

Reefer Madness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gives you an idea for the time-line.

Pretty comical movie as well, though I don't believe it was intended.

What a joke. He made one of the greatest and most important catches in NFL history. He had every reason to celebrate.

Roger Goodell should give Santonio $10,000. The NFL just made way more than that by the Steelers winning it instead of Arizona. Can you imagine how much money the league would have lost on paraphanalia trying to sell Cardinals championship gear instead of selling to the nationwide Steeler fanbase?
