WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Official site of the Pittsburgh Steelers - Article

Ward, the Super Bowl XL MVP, is happy to be a two-time Super Bowl Champion, but he is also happy fellow wideout Santonio Holmes, who was the MVP of Super Bowl XLIII.
?I have seen him work day-to-day putting in the time and effort,? said Ward. ?His life is going to change. Regardless of what happens you can?t take that away from him. I don?t know of too many teams in the league that can say they have two Super Bowl MVPs as starting wideouts on their team.?

Ohio State football coaches Jim Tressel, John Cooper and Earle Bruce had some special guests at this year's Buckeye Football Spring Kickoff on Wednesday. The coaches were joined by Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. Proceeds from the event were donated to The Tressel Family Fund For Cancer Prevention and The Earle and Jean Bruce Alzheimer's Research Fund at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Holmes was introduced with a video of his Super Bowl-winning touchdown. He took to the podium to say a few words about what he has been up to and what OSU means to him.

"It's definitely an honor to be here today. It took a lot for coach to get me up here," Holmes said. "I've been running around a lot dealing with off and on the field things from winning the Super Bowl."

But Holmes said he has never forgotten his experience at OSU.

"Everywhere I go, every place I've been, I'm always reminded of something from Ohio State. Whether I see someone with a shirt on or just with the colors on," Holmes said. "I'm always thinking about Ohio State."

Steelers' Holmes Ready To 'Climb The Mountain Again'
Super Bowl XLIII MVP Joins Team On South Side
April 21, 2009

PITTSBURGH -- While there were still some missing faces from the Steelers voluntary workouts on Tuesday, the team welcomed a key member of their Super Bowl XLIII roster back to the South Side.

Running back Willie Parker, linebacker Larry Foote and safety Troy Polamalu were absent from the OTA (organized team activity), but Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes was back at practice after having flight problems and arriving late to town on Monday.

Holmes' celebrity has increased since he caught the game-winning touchdown in the waning moments of the Super Bowl to beat the Arizona Cardinals and earn the Steelers a league-leading sixth Lombardi Trophy.

While some of his teammates may not have seen him in person during the off-season, they certainly saw a lot of him on TV.

"Jay Leno, 'Regis & Kelly,' '106 & Park,' David Letterman -- what else you want? When you watch those late night shows, you're watching actresses, presidents, governors and here comes Santonio Holmes," said cornerback Ike Taylor of his teammate's media tour.

But Holmes insists all the attention and hype that goes along with winning a Super Bowl has only made him hungrier.

"Higher stakes -- you got to climb the mountain again. You're already at the top, but it start's a new season, therefore you've got to climb it again and reach the top again," said Holmes.

Steelers' Santonio Holmes Arraigned On Pot Charge
April 29, 2009

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes has been formally arraigned on a misdemeanor marijuana charge stemming from a traffic stop in October.

Pittsburgh police said they found three marijuana-filled cigars in Holmes' car when he was pulled over Oct. 23 near Mellon Arena. Holmes was stopped because his vehicle was similar to one police were looking for in a drug sting.

Police said Holmes cooperated and pointed out the drugs to officers.

Holmes' attorney has characterized the marijuana charge as a low-grade misdemeanor. At most, Holmes faces 30 days probation and a $500 fine if convicted.

Holmes didn't appear at the hearing, at which charges are formally presented and his attorney enters his appearance.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for May 22.

Santonio Holmes: Grilling the Super Bowl MVP
by TJ Jenkins (Analyst)
May 12, 2009

When asked to write up a set of questions for any Pittsburgh Steelers player to answer for me in interview form, dozens of names ran through my mind. Up to and including Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Heath Miller, Troy Polamalu, and virtually every member of the Steelers.

That being said, I've decided to get Santonio Holmes to answer a few questions for us all. At least, I hope to have him answer them.

I'll be giving the question and then my reasoning for asking that question.

The Question: Now, Santonio, you certainly came up big in the Super Bowl, what are your feelings about being there? The excitement in the air, winning in such a fast paced game, and finally earning the honors of being the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player? What does that mean to you?

The Reasoning: I'd absolutely love to hear about the Super Bowl experience from someone who's played in it, and played such an instrumental part in the winning of one.

The Question: What is the one play that sticks out in your mind as your own greatest play? From any of your years as a football player.

The Reasoning: Being a former football player myself, it would be an interesting change of pace to hear what his favorite play was. Certain plays and games just stick in your memory forever. I want to know what his is.

The Question: What is the one area of your game that you're trying to improve upon the most this offseason and season?

The Reasoning: No player is perfect and the way to get as close to perfect as possible is to practice and work for it. I want to know where he feels he needs to improve to become one of the greatest receivers in the NFL.The Question: Are you working with Limas Sweed at all? Helping him with his concentration and whatnot? What tips have you given him since he was drafted last year?

The Reasoning: Players are people too, they build relationships and in many cases a football team is a part of your extended family. Interaction happens whether or not you're absolutely crazy about each other and you can make your own time on the field more enjoyable by liking the men you're playing with.

I want to delve into Holmes' mind and find out how he's giving back to the team.

The Question: What was going through your mind before, during, and after you caught the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl?

The Reasoning: There had to be a million things running through his head during the plays leading to that and directly after: I want to know what they are.

The Question: Being an Ohio State alumni and playing in Ohio twice a year, do you do you feel that some people still view you as just an Ohio State Buckeye? Or are they still as receptive to you even though you're playing against a division rival?

The Reasoning: Tying in his college and NFL play is key. Some people follow players because they played for their favorite college team, and since the majority of Ohio residents are Buckeyes' fans it's intriguing to see their reactions to a favorite player playing for a rival.

Santonio Holmes due in court today on marijuana charges
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes is due in court today on marijuana possession charges his attorney is fighting by challenging the traffic stop that led to his arrest.

Common Pleas Judge Lester G. Nauhaus is scheduled to rule today on the motion filed last week by Mr. Holmes' attorney, Robert Del Greco, to suppress the traffic stop.

Police stopped Mr. Holmes, the 25-year-old Steelers wide receiver, near Mellon Arena on Oct. 23 and found three marijuana-filled cigars. According to a criminal complaint against Mr. Holmes, officers in Zone 2 had received word to be on the lookout for a newer model SUV with out-of-state plates that could be carrying a large amount of narcotics.

The brief argues that a search of Mr. Holmes' vehicle violates the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution because the police information came from an anonymous tip.

In an interview yesterday, Mr. Del Greco said that the information also was far too broad to justify searching a vehicle because it did not specify a color, model, or even a state from which the SUV could have come.

If Judge Nauhaus throws out the traffic stop, prosecutors likely would drop the case.
