WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Yeah, I know but you HAVE missed his retraction:

See Esoteria's post last page.

Problem is, that wasn't a retraction ... he was just setting the record straight that he did not pay Santonio like Mike & Mike had been reporting all morning.

He reiterated that Holmes had another arrangement in place already.

Yes, but an "arrangement" does not necessarily mean he was on the take. Like others have said, I have a hard time believing that Holmes would have volunteered "I'm already getting paid by Mr. So and So" and if Luch's is being honest when he said he stopped paying players in 1999, I don't know how the subject would have even come up.

On the other hand, stranger things have happened, I guess. I'm not so naive to think that Ohio State players always "do the right thing" and I do believe the sports agency problem is at every university - including Ohio State.

Holmes telling an agent to buzz off because he already has another deal is roughly equivalent to telling a door-to-door salesman that you don't need to buy magazine subscriptions because you already get Cat Fancy. Santonio might have been on the take, or he might have had a pretty good white lie to get agent sleaze off his back.

In other words, whatever this guy is saying is far from proof that Holmes was actually on the take.

Tressel: Holmes reassured us

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said today that an assistant coach has spoken with former OSU receiver Santonio Holmes, and Holmes assured him that he did not take money from an agent while in school.

Holmes was mentioned in a Sports Illustrated story earlier this week as a player who met with former agent Josh Luchs. According to Luchs, Holmes said he had been taking money from another agent for years.

OSU compliance officials have said they are looking into the allegation.

Tressel said assistant Darryl Hazell called Holmes after the story broke.

?His statements to Darryl. . .put your mind at ease,? Tressel said. ?You?re always concerned when anything is brought up. You never like to be mentioned in any other ways than glowing ones.?

Yesterday, Holmes, now with the New York Jets, told reporters that he didn?t know Luchs and had never been in contact with him.

?It?s all false,? he said.

Tressel said he saw no signs of Holmes being improperly involved with agents while at OSU (from 2002 through 2005).

?No, in fact I remember Darryl sat through the agent interviews with (Holmes) as kind of his sounding board,? Tressel said.
