WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5688033

"We met him outside the football building," Luchs said in the article. "And he said, 'Listen, I want to save you the time. We don't need to meet. I've been taking money from [an agent] the last couple years, and he's been taking care of my family too."

I don't believe this due to the simple fact that Santonio would have to be a complete moron to tell some random schmuck that randomly walked up to him outside the WHAC that some other agent has been supporting him and his entire family...

Not saying you are wrong, but my guess is that if he flew out to meet with Santonio that they weren't complete strangers, they must have had some kind of intermediary to arrange the meeting outside the WHAC (Assuming the meeting ever happened of course)

If there has been an intermediary, the meeting probably never would have happened since Santonio didn't want to deal with them.

They could have been in town to make contact with a number of different Buckeyes, and tried to meet as many potentially draftable guys as possible.

I believe the alleged conversation never should have been included in the SI article. Even if Holmes said what they claim - it means nothing - he could have been saying that simply to get rid of them. If he hadn't won the Super Bowl MVP, it probably would never have been mentioned.

You really think if it would have been Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, AJ Hawk, etc., they would have left it out of the story?

Jets receiver Santonio Holmes didn't expect to be handed starting job after suspension

John Munson/The Star-LedgerSantonio Holmes said not being a starter right now is an adjustment, but he's looking at the big picture.

Since his return from his four-game league suspension, Santonio Holmes has been the Jets' No. 3 receiver. And the former Super Bowl MVP for the Steelers said he didn't expect anything different.

"Right now, I don?t expect anything to be given to me," Holmes said. "I'm going to work for it, to become a starter, and if it happens, it happens. If it doesn?t, I'm going to be satisfied with us going to the Super Bowl and winning again."

Holmes, acquired by the Jets in an April trade, missed the first four games for violationing the league's substance-abuse policy. In each of the two games since his return, he's played between 40 to 45 percent of the snaps, by an unofficial count -- slightly more than half of the plays fellow receivers Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery are getting.

Holmes admitted that it's "definitely a big adjustment" after three full seasons of starting for the Steelers. His goal is to do the same here, but he added that is not his main focus.

"I definitely want to be a starter," Holmes. "I play this game deeply; I put in too much time to not be a starter. But is that my focus right now? No. Because that?s definitely going to bring our team down if I'm running around talking to the coaches or talking behind guys' backs that I want to be a starter or I need to be a starter or I deserve it."

Coach Rex Ryan said he expects Holmes to get "a few more opportunities this week." But Holmes said he didn't know and is "going with the flow." He admitted he has made some mistakes in limited time in a new system.

"Look at the plays that I've run wrong routes; that I've done some of the things that a first-year guy does," Holmes said. "Being in this system is going to take time, and I'm willing to take time to prepare myself."

Holmes could have bigger role this week
October, 27, 2010
By Rich Cimini

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Two games into his first season with the New York Jets, WR Santonio Holmes could be in line for an expanded role Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

"I expect him to get a few more opportunities this week," Rex Ryan said Wednesday.

Unofficially, Holmes played in 59 of 140 snaps (42%) in the last two games, roughly half the playing time of Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards. Holmes, who missed the first four games due to a league drug suspension, has seven catches for 88 yards.

Holmes, who yearns to be a starter, said he hasn't been told anything about a bigger role in the offense.

"I just go with the flow," he said.

Green Lantern: Holmes Gives Jets Needed Flight Plan
Holmes Now Ready To Be The Guy That Steps To The Fore

Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes catches a 54-year pass in overtime setting up a 23-20 win over Detroit on Nov. 7, 2010.

NEW YORK (CBS 2) ? They got him in the hope he would perform just as he did Sunday in Detroit.

Santonio Holmes has had his share of great moments and low points during his NFL career, but as far as Jets fans are concerned he should be the difference maker on an offense that?s in dire need of an identity.

The Jets are supposed to be a ground and pound machine, but due to maddening inconsistency in both play-calling and execution the running game has proven to be a less reliable focal point than one would have figured coming into this season, especially considering the team?s personnel at the skill positions and along the offensive line.

So far, so good. But it hasn?t been easy. Holmes? rapport with Sanchez has taken a long time to develop and is just now beginning to look like it?s set in stone. It didn?t materialize in the preseason and the fear was the suspension would further deter a quarterback-wide receiver relationship that desperately needed to flourish if the Jets were to become more than just a student body right or left and chuck and duck operation with the football.
The good news is Holmes and Sanchez now appear to be on the same page. Just in case you?re still concerned, watch a replay of the Jets? insane 23-20 overtime win in Detroit on Sunday.

Hmmm. I remember reading stories about them hitting it off immediately. Sanchez said something along the lines of Tone was like having a new toy to play with.

Santonio Holmes, the Jets? Difference Maker
By TONI MONKOVIC
New York Jets

In conventional terms, Jets receiver Santonio Holmes hasn?t made a huge impression with the Jets this season. He couldn?t make any impression at all in the first four games ? he was serving a suspension. In the four games he has played, he has had 15 catches for 245 yards, with no touchdowns and with one clumsy fumble in which he ran into a teammate?s back.

But he has a feel for the big moment.

As a Steeler, he was named the most valuable player of the 2009 Super Bowl after a touchdown catch with 35 seconds left. He had four receptions for 71 yards on the winning drive.

This season, Brian Burke of Advanced NFL Stats says, Holmes has made his plays count:

Santonio Holmes is blowing everyone away in WPA per game, with +0.30 per his 4 game appearances this season. Wow ? His performance has lifted the Jets? chances of winning each game by 30 percentage points, as much as the league?s top two QBs! Most of his impact has come on only two plays. Holmes drew a 60-yard pass interference call to put the Jets on the goal line to win in their game against Denver, and he made a 52-yard catch in overtime to set up the game-winning field goal against Detroit.

So glad he's out of Pittsburgh and I can actually root for him again without it helping the Steelers.

I hope he personally sends them home in January.
