WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

I will miss his big plays but it looks like we got rid of him at just the right time for the University's sake...with all of the trouble he has been getting into. He was making me pretty nervous last year showing up to some of Tressels speaking engagements in flashy high dollar suits and stuff. The NCAA, I feel is still hiding in the bushes waiting for a mis-step. I hope he gets his [censored] together soon....for his sake.

I said it long ago that i thought he could possibly be on the take and i had moderators all over me for it. I hope turns out to be false for the sake of the program..if not i will be accepting applogies.:sad::sad:

That's what I was wondering, too. So this guy simply introduced himself to Holmes (without any mention of money, allegedly), and Holmes voluntarily started talking about how he's getting paid by another agent? Not likely.
How is that not likely? They met with Holmes to try and get the foot in the door early....since that's what you have to do in the agent world if you want to sign the guys who are going to be first round picks. Holmes told them thanks but no thanks, he's already hooked up with another agent. It sounds more likely than not, to me.

This is a public website....so there's a damn good reason why mods got all over you for your statement. You could have been the agent paying him for all we care....you still aren't going to get away with implying anything damaging to the OSU program unless it's something that you're willing/able to back up with facts.

I was trying to say that it seemed fishy to me that the agent claimed he wasn't the one who brought up money.

The facts are in one ABC's game broadcasts when Holmes walked into to a Tressel Press conference wearing a silk Pink Silk suit....it stopped JT mid sentence to say," Oh my Santonio whats that". That is fact. This was the season before he left for the draft and when many of his problems started.

The reason i made this statement was in fear of him damaging the program again right after the Clarrett problem. What Buckeye fan wants to see a player destroy what the university has worked so hard to build the last 10 to 15 years?

According to Luchs, Holmes apparently said he (Holmes) already had an "Arrangement" It seems to me, considering the overriding context of paying players, the assumption is being made that Santonio must have been meaning the "arrangement" included being on the take.

It may have been as simple as Holmes saying, "No need to waste your time, Luchs. I already know who I'm going to sign as my agent when the time comes" and doesn't require any assumption that said "arrangement" included any exchange of money. Indeed, even Luchs is on record, apparently, as saying he had no intention of paying Holmes anything (having not done that since 1999).

Naa it worried me that hes a young man with a wife and kid, still in college and he has the money for a 2000 dollar suit. Cetrainly it could have been a gift from a relative..but right on the heels of the Clarrett thing I didnt want to see anything raise the eyebrows of the NCAA.

That's a fact that he wore a suit. That's not a fact that he's doing anything like you were suggesting he was doing.

I guess I could change my last post to say you need facts that back up your claim. It turns out that you could have been right.....but I could say the same thing about any current player of any current team if I see them in a nice suit or a nice car. 5 years down the road that might turn out to be an accurate claim.....but all I did was throw dirt on the player and the program with no real proof. This site would rather be correct than first......and in the case of suggesting players might be doing something wrong we would rather be reacting to NCAA findings after a loooooong investigation than breaking the story.

But, it was apparently a 2,000 dollar suit. I suspect Exile works in retail, so I didn't bother to question his credentials.

This is the quote that I read when the article first came out.

In November 2005, Steve and I flew to Ohio State to talk to receiver Santonio Holmes. We met him outside the football building, and he said, "Listen, I want to save you the time. We don't need to meet. I've been taking money from [an agent] the last couple years, and he's been taking care of my family too."

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/magazine/10/12/agent/index.html?eref=sihp#ixzz12LUekRYS

Maybe Luchs has since backpedalled from that exact quote and I'm not aware of it, but that's the quote I had in mind, where he painted Santonio as the guy who voluntarily offered up the information that he's taking money.

Yeah, I know but you HAVE missed his retraction:

"Earlier you had said that I had paid Santonio Holmes and I never did. I met Santonio Holmes once, he was kind enough to tell me not to waste my time because he had an arrangement elsewhere and at that time I wasn't offering up money to players because I hadn't done it since 1999. So I just wanted to set the record straight."

"It was another player named Holmes, but not Santonio."
