WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

I doubt Illinois' previous history will have any effect on his draft stock.

Acutally, I do. If I were a GM and had the choice of drafting a 1,200-yard back from Illinois and a 1,200-yard back from Ohio State, I'm going with the Buckeye every day and twice on Draft Day.

Mili, if you took the same guy twice, they would can you faster than Matt Millen...wait, no, you'd be safe in Detroit . I would have to give credit to an Illinois back who probably ran behind their O-Line, and had the same amount of yards as an OSU RB. Then again, ND's all-time leading rusher, Autry Denson, was drafted behind OSU career-backup Joe Montgomery.

:oh:

Then I'd hope you like long walks on the beach, b/c that's what you'll be doing with all of your free time in the unemployment line. To use that kind of absolute logic is just ignorant. I think it's silly to say that if he chooses Illinois he wouldn't make it into the NFL or get drafted any higher than if he attended OSU, as if it's already predetermined.

I think you are taking this a bit overboard. I took it was him saying if the situation was that there were two backs and either all things equal OR the school they attended was all you knew that the Ohio State guy would get the advantage given the history........nothing more.

(This should be split soon anyway)

I can understand the draw for Lamaar if he indeed chose Illinois. The kids that they have brought in so far under coach Zook are all going to be Sophomores and Redshirt-Freshmen, and will undoubtedly get the nod over an upper-classman that was brought into Illinois by the previous regime. Unless it's not even close. But we're talking about a lot of 2-3 star players leftover there. Nevermind the kids he is recruiting right now, if he can land a stellar class, along with Actually Winning Some Big Ten Games, then it's going to be a draw. Not a draw I would be drawn to, but I'm a Buckeye. If a player such as Lamaar would prefer to build a program, then I guess he could do worse than the "Fighting" Illini....

With Illinois being a big factor... how do D.J. Woods and Lamaar Thomas compare to each other? If D.J. wants to be a WR, and we miss on Thomas, it opens a spot for him.

If DJ wants to be a WR I don't think OSU is the place for him. He is recruited as a CB (with or without LT).

If the kid can play, the kid can play. One of the things that OSU's coaching staff is well known for is finding the best postition for the talent they bring in.

Its not coincidence that they recruit to three types of athletes (SPEED, BIG SPEED, POWER) instead of by position like other programs do. I wouldn't be surprised if other staff's have started following OSU's lead.

LT seems like the perfect Tress recruit in that regard. They know the talents he posseses, and if and when he gets on campus, they will place him accordingly.

You would think that would be a major selling point to recruits, because it has led to quite a bit of guys getting drafted at positions no one else recruited them for.

I know he is being recruited as a CB, but if Thomas doesn't come I was just saying the possability of him being a WR grows a bit. DJ apparently is tearing it up at WR and we are the only ones really looking for him to play CB. But anyways, I digress... back to Lamaar.

The thing that bothers me a bit about the Illini is the perception that they are on the verge of being on par with OSU, Wisconsin, UM, PSU.

They are 2-28 their last 30 Big 10 games. They'd have to really make a big leap just to get into the second teir of the league with MSU, Purdue, Iowa. I mean they are absolutely bottom of the barrel. You'd think they'd actually have to get to the point where they can with 4 or 5 games in the Big 10 before all of this talk starts.

To be honest, even if they do get their talent level near or above teams like Iowa, I still don't know if I'd buy them beating those types of teams because I feel like Ferentz could coach circles around Zook. I'd take Dantonio or Tiller too.
