WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

The shotGinn allows the smaller receiver to not get bumped off the line of scrimmage all game, to run the flare route and have to have a LB or S cover that guy which then opens up slant or crossing routes in the spot empty by that player...Also you can run that guy out of that formation using a reverse, or you can run an option with that guy...Also motion him out of that position and try and get a mismatch...

Yep. I saw over on another sight (Bucknuts I think) where a guy took a freeze frame photo of our shotginn formation against USC (I think it was Boom lined up there). Anyway, it was absolutely amazing how much space there is to be had if the WR in the slot can block down and free up the shotginn guy...the USC safety was like 15-20 yard off the LOS.

When do we create these mismatches? I must be missing them, cause I dont see much innovative playcalling coming out of this formation

He already has played in a game, douchenozzle...pay attention for a freakin' change.

Isnt he still eligible for a RS if he doesnt play the rest of the season? I recall Clifford playing substantially more than Thomas has, and he was still able to take a RS his frosh yr

I didnt see much of last week's game, but in the first three games, didnt Thomas only play about 3-4 snaps?

I would think he could still qualify for a RS

A player can participate in up to 3 games and still redshirt, I believe.

Paging BB73.

Only if there's an injury involved. Remember in the 2004 Alamo Bowl when JT put Ginn in at QB rather than burn Boeckman's redshirt? Same thing. Also, Lawrence Wilson played in the YSU game but broke his leg, and since he played in less than 20% of the games for the year (rounded up, if I'm not mistaken) he has the option of applying for a medical redshirt after all his normal eligibility is exhausted. But, you can't just played a kid for a game or two and decide afterwards to redshirt if that player isn't injured.

I wonder if Flash is banged up, he did seem to come up gimpy during the YSU game. If he is fully healthy, I wonder what this WR rotation could mean for Flash, the offense sure could use an infusion of speed, TP brings great speed of course, but if Ray is loitering around the doghouse, Flash may bring the deep threat, along with Posey, that this team has lacked off and on this season.

The same way we use to cause them with Teddy...It isn't always the mismatch for Teddy, but for the other guys as they pay attention to whoever is in that position...
